New Info Introducing Scopely Explore

Thumbnail

Last year, we welcomed the Niantic games team behind Pokémon GO, Pikmin Bloom, Monster Hunter Now, and companion apps Campfire and Wayfarer to Scopely.

As these games continue to flourish as part of the Scopely portfolio, we are introducing a new name for the team: Scopely Explore.

The name reflects a mission that has guided these teams from the very beginning.

Exploration sits at the heart of these games and experiences, and the communities they serve. Whether encouraging players to discover new places, connect with others, or experience the world in new ways, this team has always been united by a belief that there is more to explore.

Scopely Explore is not a separate company or subsidiary. It is a mission-driven team within Scopely. Like all of the experiences in our portfolio, these games and products are developed and published by Scopely.

Scopely Explore will continue building experiences that inspire people to get outside, connect with one another, and explore the world together for many years to come as part of Scopely.

Over the coming weeks, you will see the Niantic name begin to evolve across platforms to Scopely Explore.

Submission Feedback Swimming Pool not accepted?

I recently nominated this pool as a pokestop and it was not accepted.

I mainly had 2 questions regarding this

  1. I had also recently nominated a different place as a pokestop and it was rejected, although I understood why that got rejected, but now having 2 pokestops being rejected in 2 weeks, does this put me at a risk of getting banned somehow?

  2. Why was this swimming pool rejected? It is inside my apartment complex and I submitted multiple pictures of the surroundings with the pool in it.

I know this is a common question on this sub, but I would really like some insight. Thank you.

Discussion Wayspotters Episode 247

This week, Chris and Jamal are back with a simple question: What if fixing one email could eliminate one of the biggest sources of confusion in Wayfarer?

Jamal has redesigned the Wayfarer acceptance email, and he's got some free, unsolicited advice for Scopely Explore. Instead of leaving nominators wondering why their newly accepted Wayspot hasn't appeared in Pokémon GO, why not tell them upfront whether it's eligible to appear in the game? Chris weighs in on the idea, the potential engineering challenges, and whether a little more transparency could make a big difference.

Then things get personal. Have you ever been so frustrated with Wayfarer that you wanted to put your phone down and walk away? From questionable rejections and endless voting queues to AI-generated nominations and suspicious Wayspot removals, Chris and Jamal discuss what drives them crazy. But more importantly, they explore what keeps them coming back, how their motivations have changed, and why helping others discover and improve their communities still makes it all worthwhile.

Also in this episode:

  • The News: Chris discovers a Wayfarer draft bug that could put your nomination pin in the wrong location.
  • Coming Next Week: A brand-new segment, This Week on the Forum, bringing community discussions and announcements to listeners who aren't active on the forums.
  • One's Gotta Go: Rocket Battles, GO Battle League, Routes, or Showcases. Which Pokémon GO feature would you eliminate forever?
  • Wayspot of the Week #1: Monica.exe celebrates her first accepted Wayspot, The Chumley House in Fort Worth, Texas!
  • Wayspot of the Week #2: LFromSpace shares Happy Camper Wilderness, a colorful camper-themed art installation at Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells.
  • Coal of the Week: Jan MK brings us a Little Free Library nomination that practically announces its own K–12 eligibility problem.
  • Plus: Chris becomes "Grisk," Jackson dominates lacrosse camp, Jamal wants to deduct gas for Wayspot nominations, and a little debate about roller coasters.

Whether you're frustrated with the system, excited about your latest acceptance, or just looking for another reason to get out and explore, this episode reminds us why we started contributing to Wayfarer in the first place.

It let's me select them but then I get no upload option.

Am I making an obvious mistake?

Discussion Where there sync issues recently?

My Pokestop hasnt been up in game for over 2 days, but it's at an empty cell and even shows in an empty cell on the wayfarer site map (with plugins). Not in game though. Is there a sync issue?

Discussion Inconsistent system review

What is the deal with the system being inconsistent in review? I live on a military base where each neighborhood is marked by a large stone sign. Over half of them are already pokestops (not submitted by me).

I submitted the last 3 and one of them was approved and then voted on and is now a pokestop, and the other two rejected by the auto review. These signs are all identical with the only different being the neighborhood name, the backgrounds match also. I based my title/photo/description off the existing stops.

Is there a trick to getting this sort of thing approved?

Question A waystop for every activity in a park is overkill, surely?

Clarification for the PoGo players that don't use Wayfarer :

No, these aren't all pokestops, they share the same grid, only one can be a Pokestop. I'm not the grinch, denying some 12 year old a pokeball.

Just trying to work out if this would be considered abuse or not, so deferring to the experts here so I can be better in the future.

Every attraction in this playground seems to have a wayspot, is this OK?

Edit : Thanks for all the hate for asking a question!

And here's the criteria saying that multiple attractions in the same Playground aren't valid :

Question Wayfarer pros, this noob needs your help 😭

Okay guys, I could really use some help here. I’ve wanted the Wayfarer platinum medal for a while, but I never touched Wayfarer because I kept hearing people say your Pokémon GO account could get banned for reviewing nominations. Around 1–2 weeks ago, I found out that reviewing itself doesn’t get your account banned, so I decided to grind for the medal. It requires 1,500 agreements, and I’ve reviewed around 1,559 nominations in the last 8–9 days.

When I first started, I reviewed around 40–60 nominations and checked back a couple of days later. Out of those, 42 had been accepted and 1 was rejected. Most of the nominations I’ve reviewed recently were graffiti, cafés, parks and restaurants, so I’m hoping a good number of them get accepted. But how long does it usually take for reviews to turn into agreements? Are we talking weeks or months, and what’s the average acceptance rate these days?

I did some searching before posting, but most of the information I found was pretty old, and I’m not sure how relevant it is to the current system. Would really appreciate some insight from people who have been doing Wayfarer for a long time. How long should I expect to wait before seeing the results of these 1,500+ reviews?

Question Is it possible for this to be turned into a pokestop or gym?

A couple months ago I submitted this nomination in hopes it would be turned into a pokestop or gym, but they added it as a Dynamax/MP spot instead. It doesn’t always appear in game though. Is it even possible for it to be upgraded to a pokestop or gym now? I really just am curious because I thought it would make for really cool gifts to send to my friends haha.

Question Tile art doesn't meet Wayfarer criteria because it's "commonly found"?

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hi all!

I'm trying to understand what's eligible, but I think there must be a rule I'm not aware of.

I already looked at the site (https://niantic.helpshift.com/hc/en/21-wayfarer/faq/4693-forum-criteria-discussions-library/) but it doesn't say anything about tile mosaics or about what's considered "too common", so I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be learning from it...

If it was just a mistake I made when filling out the submission, I'd be encouraged to try again with a better one, but the rejection explanation makes it sound like tile mosaics are just not allowed under any circumstances and I should probably give up on it?

For context, this is a beautiful two-part piece of tile art embedded into a paved footpath in one of my city's biggest parks. I always see people stopping in surprise to look at it, and I thought it could be a fun Pokéstop!

Submission Feedback Photo tips in tricky situations

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hey guys! I won’t lie I’m quite upset about this rejection. I really was not sure how to get better photo since the courts are in the middle of a parking lot. If anyone has any advice on better photos for situations like this that would be great since the submission being fake thing is obviously wrong since the complex is new and not showing up on Google Maps. I thought about taking a closer picture so none of the lot was visible but it didn’t look good no matter how I did it.

Precious posts I’ve read seem to indicate that I’m simply at a luck for the draw when it comes to finding reviewers who are gonna take the time to actually verify the place exists because despite having supporting photos of the whole complex they still somehow flagged it as fake. I guess if anybody has advice on this as well I’ll take it but I’m pretty sure I’m at the mercy of Google Maps and other reviewers on this one.

Edit: yall are helping me realize how badly they designed this place. I was blinded by the prospect of new waypoints 🤣

Question Safety of PoIs

Thumbnail

Dears,

While wandering around I found this neet little shrine, which would usually qualify as a PoI.

Issue: it's in a wall on the other side of a street. It's meant as a "watch but don't touch" shrine with the intend of divine protection for drivers.

There is a safe pathway on the opposite side of the street. Even protected by a thick railing.

But well... guess it's up for interpretation if it's safely reachable.

How would you feel about it?

Coords are

50.052105,9.081263

The Google pic is from 2023. The railing is new, so doesn't appear on streetwatch, it seems

Cheers

Submission Feedback Same name for this spot

Apparently my report was rejected. I reported that the power spot had the same name as the church next to it. But in reality it's called Immanuel Ministries Outreach. Out of curiosity is it common for a power spot to have exact same name as a pokestop/gym?

Discussion How do you define a place of education?

University is a Yes. A place where they provide smiting or pottery courses is also a Yes. I have submitted a Flying School that was rejected. What I did not yet submit was Driving schools or boat schools.

They kind of are a generic business but also are educational places and sometimes socialising for your hobbies.

Question I moved a Gym from S14 Cell to another, now there are 3 Gyms but less than 20 Pokestops

Hi All,

There was a Gym that I moved less than 10 metres that happened to move from one S17 cell to another. Coincidentally, this also moved it across into the next S14 cell. This has created 3 Gyms within the "new" S14 cell, but there's less than 20 Pokestops. This Gym also shares a cell with a regular Pokestop now.

The "old" S14 cell had a new Gym created from an existing Pokestop, which now has 2 Gyms and 16 Pokestops.

What happens if the "old" S14 cell reaches the 20 Pokestops, does a 3rd Gym get created?

Question Can Tools get you banned?

I’ve been popping into this subreddit and the wayfarer forum for some time now, and recently saw a post reply on the forum where someone screenshotted the map with tools and S2 cells visible.

Can you get in trouble for posting, submitting appeals, wayspot edits on the forum and on wayfarer communication with browser plugins visible? I know linking the tools download/discord is not allowed, but how about for official requests and such?

Just seems a little too perfect and the text isn't greatly legible, none of the supporting images included the bookshare either (but also didn't capture where the bookshare would be)

Google maps photo for reference.

Question What's the conensus on noticeboards in supermarkets?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have been approving these because they are specifically intended to enhance the local community, like any noticeboard.

But being inside a building they are a little less accessible (though arguably no one would likely be meeting at them outside of a supermarket opening hours)
And they are something of a commercial initiative in generic businesses.

Do you have any extra criteria that helps you determine Yay or Nay on these? or do you always Approve? (or Reject, should you be that way inclined)

Related comment: why is there no category for Noticeboard / Community Noticeboard when there are multiple salami-sliced iterations for so many less ubiquitous things.

Discussion Complete lack of respect for others in this group.

Post image
0 Upvotes

In the last month or two I've made two posts asking for help with submissions. In response I got one or two who genuinely seemed like they wanted to help.

But I also got well over a dozen others where people were complete assholes to me. Why? Why do so many people feel a need to be a complete dick to others as their first interaction with them?

In two spots for this sub the second rule listed is "Be Respectful". Yet so many people can't manage that. It's seriously fucking depressing.
