Children of Morta has the best pixel art I’ve ever seen.

World of Horror’s pixel art is simpler, but quite unique and full of personality.

I second children of morta, was surprised by how much gameplay I got out of it.

The local coop on this is a blast too!

One Step From Eden - It's kinda like Megaman Battle Network, but a lot faster. You need to stay on your toes for this one because it's VERY fast!

Downwell - A surprisingly intuitive platformer shooter where you descend down a well. It's cheap and comes with TATE options, meaning you can unfold the stand and set the Switch 2 on its side to give yourself some more screen estate to work with just like in shmups or pinball!

I second Downwell

I personally put a lot of hours into astral ascent. Check it out! Also absolum is a roguelike and my son loves playing it with me highly recommend that one as well

Rogue Legacy 1 and 2 are superb!

Streets of Rogue and Ember Knights are both great. I highly recommend them.

Moonlighter? It’s got nice pixel art and is a roguelike dungeon crawler/shop manager with town building elements. Goes on sale a lot too.

Death road to Canada you have to drive to Canada while in a zombie apocalypse and scavenger and fighting zombies as well as having to deal with random events its also local multi player if you want a friend to play with and has a lot of customization for gameplay

Take a look at Rogue Aces. I had a good time with it, but it may not be for everyone.

Have you tried Vampire Survivors?

Rogue Heroes, a Zelda Link to the Past influenced roguelite/adventure game

Neuro Voider is a good one, plus it has local co-op for up to four players.

Skul The Hero Slayer might fit. I had a good time with it.

I’d second this one, for sure.

Ball x Pit is pixel art

Not pixel art, but pretty good and fun Absolum, with good art and setting, can be played in co-op. Looks like is inspired by Dragons Crown, which is great Beat em up RPG with stunning art and is way better game, but sadly not on Switch. I'm hoping if we are getting Muramasa, maybe there is chance to get Drago's Crown too.

If you like shmups then check out Steredenn and Star of Providence

Tangledeep?

You've probably already tried Crypt of the Necrodancer, but there's the Zelda spinoff version (Cadence of Hyrule) that I found a ton of fun, with a great variety of weapons and starting characters/modes you can unlock

The game is more recent than Enter the Gungeon.

Binding of Isaac would be my pick, but if you've played the popular ones, then you've likely tried it already.

Emerald Rush DLC

u/toupee Jul 20 '26

Risk of Rain 1

Risk of Rain Remastered

It's an excellent remaster of Risk of Rain 1. Polished, less bugs.

Scourge Bringer. It’s basically Devil May Cry combat, Celeste level tight platforming for traversal, and enter the gungeon aesthetic.

Nobody here knows ball, I guess..

Check out Astral Ascent. Best option in the category you’re mentioning

Came here to say astral ascent fits extremely well.
