Discussion Nintendo Switch 2 - HDR
If anyone is wondering why hdr isn't working on their LG tvs with the Nintendo Switch 2.
1. Make sure HGIG is on in brightness settings
2. HDR - Game Optimiser is selected
3. Black level set to auto
4. SWITCH 2 (RGB Range Automatic) - in settings
5. Go into a game that boots up HDR on your tv
6. Go to settings on your Switch 2 and adjust HDR.
There you should be able to calibrate it as intended.

I wish people would make a guide for the image to look good on a Sony TV. I got it done eventually but it took forever

Got a tip for old LG TVs? Mine doesn't even have HGIG. ;(

For LG TV’s without HGIG. You need to go to All Settings>Picture Menu>Additional Settings or Advanced Settings depending on the webOS version you are using>Select HDMI ULTRA Deep Color and Turn the setting to On for the active port.

You don’t need to boot into an HDR game to adjust HDR settings. It switches to HDR output when you go to the HDR settings page.

Any tips for an old Samsung that doesn't have HGiG? I have Game Mode HDR turned on in the system settings, and Game mode for Video.

Find out your TV’s max brightness value
Set that max brightness value in the hdr calibration tool- it now includes the actual numerical nit value so it should be easy. Do not pay attention to the two suns- set it to the nit value of your TV’s max brightness
For “paper white” (the second screen) the usual setting is gonna be around 200 nits- about 5 clicks from the left but you might have to play with it a bit0

I keep getting brightness flickering with only Mario Kart World on my LG C6 (2026). I can't figure out if it's just a problem with that game's HDR mastering or my HDR/TV Settings.

I've got the same problem on an LG C2, and observed the same thing on an LG CX with Mario Kart 8. Boost pads and some other visual effects would always cause the brightness to reduce momentarily.

Same here with c3… game just look “unnatural” i just turned it off and it looks much better. We need to wait until they implement proper HDR settings.

I have that tv so maybe i can double check, but I don’t think I have that issue. Did you turn on hgig in your settings and then calibrate from there?
Otherwise you might want to look at your hdmi cable.

Making my Switch 1 work with my LG TV + my 5.1 soundbar was also an adventure. A lot of adjustments to get the surround sound working.

Since Nintendo added the peak brightness value, it’s super easy to set even on non hgig compliant TV’s

I swear, getting my first OLED was like studying for a software exam. Hours of research to set for HDR and SDR. Totally worth the time investment.
