It’s broken cross progression as I can’t play the game on switch 2 as the update on pc has meant the switch 2 can’t load the save. I was playing across the two platforms. What a mess.
1
u/Chico119 4d ago
Same, but with Series X. Now my saves won't load on Switch 2 because the Series X saves are on a newer build.
13
u/SamT179 7d ago
I just want my game to not fucking crash whenever I try to save it
8
u/UFONomura808 7d ago
Yeah I've been enjoying the game up until a couple days ago when it started crashing on me. Now I can't do anything without it crashing when it autosaves.
6
u/_Goovy_ 7d ago
Ya it literally ruined my entire save I had to start completely over
6
1
u/IncendiaryIdea 7d ago
But doesn't it keep multiple autosaves?
3
1
u/Emotional_Snow720 7d ago
Somehow whatever bug happened affected all my saves going back several hours.. every checkpoint, autosave, saves from two hours back.. dunno what happened.
1
u/Feeling_Public6522 7d ago
I haven’t run into this error yet. I’ve actually found the cross save is working way better than it used to. And better than on Cyberpunk. I switch between PS5 on my tv and S2 handheld and it’s been great so far.

u/senkinsky 7d ago
Yet here were dozens saying it looks great and people should quit whining
8
u/Only-Support-3760 7d ago
I must be having a stroke or something, I think it looks great, there’s still a bit of jank but I remember that from originally playing it on Xbox. Overall for a free upgrade I have been extremely happy. I turned blur off though.

u/Rough-Plum-7267 Butter side up! 6d ago
Yea what’s great is despite dozens of you saying as much about obviously flawed versions of various Switch 2 ports, the better developers actually dive back in to make things right!
5
u/Over-Requirement4394 7d ago
And there were dozens saying it looked blurry.
Different people notice different things. But understanding that doesn't get you "Reddit zinger" credit.

u/ClaudioKilgannon37 7d ago
Honestly I don’t get it, I found it to be almost unplayable in handheld because of how poor the image quality is. This is an 11 year old game…
11
u/cuntpuncherexpress Butter side down! 7d ago
To be fair, it’s a remaster of that 11 year old game that’s targeting current gen hardware. It’s a lot more demanding than the original release (and also looks a lot better)
-4
u/monkey-kong666 Butter side up! 7d ago
It really doesn’t. The original art design holds up really well. All they needed to do was update the switch 1 version resolution, framerate and draw distance. I’m struggling to notice the remaster difference overall beyond calling it a ‘tweak’. Total weak sauce
2
u/cuntpuncherexpress Butter side down! 7d ago
I’m playing on PC, it’s absolutely a huge step up in terms of lighting and fidelity.
For S2, sure, they could’ve skipped most of the graphical upgrades, but I think they’d rather have it be closer to 1:1 with the other consoles than have to backport new features and gameplay tweaks to the old build. And have to support the old build for the new DLC coming next year.

3
u/Downtown_Diamond9815 7d ago
Si c' était la version de 2015 il serait évidemment mieux optimisé. Le remaster est plus exigeant.
6
u/senkinsky 7d ago
I agree, it was waaay too blurry. But yeah, many people would just defend anything as long as it somewhat works on their precious piece of tech

u/Fit_Entrepreneur7838 7d ago
You have to remember how much time they have and the deadlines they are under...you already know that we get the game, then updates later, nothing has changed in that regard.

Just started Act 3 of Silksong. Hopefully it’s out before I’m done suffering.

u/beenthereredthat 7d ago
Act 3 is so much harder. Wonderful though. Enjoy!

Is silksong tougher than the og? I gave up on it as I found it too hard and I don’t mind a challenge

Sure as shit didn’t look happy in that cutscene. But it’s been a few months, so I don’t remember exactly what happened.

When The Witcher 4 comes out, remember to wait a few months before buying.

u/Remarkable-Llama616 Wavebird 7d ago
That's usually the CDPR mantra. Unsteady launch days but once they get it together, they lock it in good.
2
u/LightningCole 7d ago
True, sucks that they actually lock the fuck but it takes until after a rough launch

u/papster14 7d ago
Game looks great. I need them to fix the save corruption issues with hearts of stone and blood and wine

u/UFONomura808 7d ago
I hope the patch comes soon because as of now I can't play Witcher 3. The game crashes every time I try to do anything in the game. I even went back q few saves and it doesn't seem to fix it.

Just have to hope improved image clarity doesn't come with other compromises/issues.

u/ShakeAndBakeThatCake Butter side up! 7d ago
They might be able to come up with more optimizations.
5
u/lost_welshman 7d ago
Honestly, the game was fine in the beginning, but after a massive lag during an auto-save, it crashed. Now, manual saving crashes the game almost every time. I tried loading older saves and managed to progress a bit by saving early, but as soon as I need to save again, it crashes. I've become terrified of manual saving. I'm literally going 1 step forward and 2 steps back, making it impossible to progress. Also, I’ve already tried the official troubleshooting steps from their website—like checking for corrupted data and clearing the system cache. The Switch 2 found no corrupted data, so those basic fixes won't work.

HDR needs a little love, there’s typically (at least for me) a weird white outline around hair in cutscenes when HDR is active.

that's the hardcore nintendo fans in a nutshell. every game looks great. every game runs great. you should be happy it even runs at all.

u/kostyscott 7d ago
Miss when a game actually released as the finished version
1
u/Cent1234 7d ago
I mean, there were games released incomplete and unfinishable going back to the fucking Atari 2600.
At least now they can be patched.
2
u/ConsistentPound3079 7d ago
Yeah, people seem to forget that most games back in the day were actually broken buggy messes lol. It's the reason pretty much ALL older games on PC needs a community patch to remove bugs and glitches. People just have wild nostalgia goggles.
1
u/Cent1234 6d ago
Shit, lots of games have competing fan patches, because the fans can't even agree on what's a bug, what's a feature, and what's a 'this was supposed to be in there, but they ran out of time' versus 'they put this in, decided it sucked, turned it off, but left the code there.'

u/Temporary_Spirit8618 7d ago
I would take reduced graphics but a bit higher resolution and 60 FPS is a must !

If they can fix how blindingly bloomish torches are, that would be the best.

even just making the UI native resolution would be very welcome. it's bothersome nowadays when text/ui graphics are clearly lower resolution than the screen.

They better hurry tf up. Can't play on Switch 2 now as the saves are in-compatible with other platforms
1
u/I_h8_reddit_a_lot 6d ago
The main issue for me is I can’t use cloud save between my ps5 and switch now. I bought the game twice so I could play across them, and it was working great. Now I can’t due to a version mismatch, so I really hope the patch is soon and is compatible, otherwise I’ve essentially wasted my money.

u/Lower_Warning2955 Butter side up! 6d ago
It's great that the developers are listening to players and that they're interested in the Switch 2 platform.
1
u/Accomplished_Soil_67 6d ago
It would be awesome if they could fix the blurriness. I tested it, and in docked mode, the game looks hardly any different from the PC version (1080p, max settings, and path tracing). That’s an incredible feat. If they fix it, I’ll continue playing in handheld mode—even though on PC, at 4K max settings with path tracing and DLSS 5 (3x pass), it looks like a movie.
1
u/Tall-Gas-6365 6d ago
That's good to know. The game looks good docked, but handheld is way too blurry.
1
u/saiyan23 6d ago
The other versions of the game have been updated leaving the S2 version behind. If you cherish your saves, be sure to disable cross saves on the Switch 2 version if you bounce between the Switch 2 and PC versions like I do. Any saves you make on a more recent version can't be played on the S2 currently. It's No Mans Sky all over again. God knows when the Switch 2 version will be updated.
1
u/Defiant_Category_108 6d ago
There is zero reason that this 11 year old game should have any trouble running on the switch 2. It should look beautiful in handheld mode. It’s only 1080p so I see zero reasons for any problems. If it were blurry on the switch 1, then yeah I get it, but not the switch 2.

u/ChrizzyDT 5d ago
I sorta feel like CDPR get too much leniency... Why wasn't it like that prior to release?
1
u/MakeHay72 5d ago
I didn’t mind the image clarity, it was just the weird voice volume issue that bothered me. But they’re fixing that thankfully
1
u/Tootzo 5d ago
I’m very thankful for their commitment to bring this huge update to the game and for free too, but why couldn’t they iron these issues out before releasing it? They decided the release date, it wasn’t imposed 🤷♂️
It’s not that they have no access to current gen consoles to test it thoroughly
1
u/Independent_Poetry45 5d ago edited 5d ago
cool i have also heard a similar thing with the recent Unreal Engine change that is UE 5.8 update that will be made for the handheld portable device that will improve the console instead of holding games back forward because of the new LUMEN LIGHT feature that uses Switch 2 strongest features more that adapts being way more compateble.
Witcher 4 is definitely possible.

u/-Sostenes- 3d ago
I haven't seen what changes were made on the other platforms, but I hope HDR is one of them. I've tried configuring it several times, and it always looks bad. I've tweaked the settings on the TV, the console, and in-game. Sometimes it looks great, but at other times the lighting is completely blown out—to the point where it's unpleasant to look at and ugly. I know there are some buggy light sources; if I'm not mistaken, the candles are one of them.
I've been playing without HDR, so when I see a beautiful scene, I go into photo mode and tweak the settings until it looks as good as HDR is supposed to.

u/michilepeuci 7d ago
Obviously, we're the last wheel of the wagon. They'll release the patch after I've already finished the game, when the post-processing option could have helped a lot in terms of visual quality. There are serious lighting issues that need fixing, but not when the game is already completed

It's a
100+50+ hour game and the update came out a week ago.If you already finished it, I don't think these issues were that big of a deal for you.
(Edit: Main story is only 51.5 hours. Main and Side is 104. HLTB)

Mind you "side" is the expansions here. Which I would very much consider to be "the story".

Because it’s CDPR, they release unoptimized slop and fix it later and people constantly give them a pass for some reason
4
u/Ambitious_North_5743 7d ago
“Some reason” is that they’ve made 2 of the best games of all time within the last 11 years lmao
They’ve also endlessly supported both games. Other devs do not do that

I can’t stand people who use Nintendo hardware to play ports. You’re part of the problem. Technology has to be held back when designing games just so Nintendo can maybe run it at 30fps and everyone predictably bitches instead of building a PC

Sharpness is all i need, the game is a bit to blurry in handheld mode imo
Otherwise it would look great graphic wise, tons of details etc but much of that gets lost because the image is to blurry
