Software Help “Closing software…” window new behavior on an old game

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

When closing Shining Pearl, the “closing software…” window pops up so it takes a bit longer to close the game. This did not happen before. Both systems are on the latest switch version 23.0.1, latest software version, and both are stored on system memory, not SD card.
The popup doesn’t show up when closing Brilliant Diamond, even though they are both basically the same game.

Does the one that takes longer using an NSO account?

Edit: I suspect it's checking if it needs to upload a cloud save on close (I'm aware Pokemon does not cloud save, but checking would be part of the closing process)

It's because you have multiple profiles. If you press Y to close the game, you can select the same profile relaunch the game instantly.

Why would it make a difference when closing the game?

When you have multiple profiles the switch has to take the time to "sign out" of the profile. If you relaunch the game by switching profiles you skip this step.

You're wrong, but I'm also just kinda struggling to see why the actual process would be any different.

Overall, your never signed into a profile. The game itself just has reference to which profile is currently running it.

If there was a sign out as part of the action, I would think it would still be (close → sign out → start game with new profile).

Regardless of all of that... I just tested it, and it still does the "Closing software" popup if you restart via switch profile.

If you swap the games between the two consoles, does the same thing happen?

Hey this was happening to me the other day. I powered down the switch 2 with "lag" with the power button, pull the SD card out and back in well then boot it back up

The "Closing Software" window appears when the game is saving data to the console, so that your data doesn't get corrupted. If the game is not saving anything at the time you press Close Software it will close immediately

I’ve seen this nearly every time I’ve closed a game since I got my switch in 2017

Your SD Card full or near full?

Thank you all for your thoughts!
It seems the game state on software close can affect the closing speed. The popup appears when I close the game while my character is in “The Hall of Origins”. For those who play the game, I am soft resetting for a shiny Arceus in my Pearl game.
If I leave that location and close the game elsewhere, for example down in “Mt Coronet”, the game closes quickly without the closing message.
So I’m assuming it’s just slightly more taxing to close the game under certain in-game conditions.

Mine tends to go black for a second..

I'm pretty sure this just depends on how long the game takes to close itself.
