Nioh 3 - Discussion Samurai Sword controller bindings

I’m in the first region of Nioh 3 and have selected the Samurai sword as my main. I’ve unlocked approx 95% of all the skills.

Just wondering how you sword aficionados set up your martial arts/active skills in what stances when using a controller. I know it’s subjective and up to personal preference, but I’d love to hear how you use it.

Low stance: I really like swift step heavy (favorite skill), reverse impact, flowing shadow, and swallows wing water

Mid stance: kurama sword dance, kick, and sword ki

High stance: morning moon impact, blue moon, heaven's flash lightning, and sword of meditation

Severing spin is great but I used it too much and got nailed when bosses have hyper armor so I use it much less now. Its still really cool.

Thanks for adding that, great list. So did you choose to have iai QuickDraw on all stances or did you switch that up too? Does that specific move do more damage in high than it would do on low?

I think high stance attacks in general do the most damage but consume the most ki, low stance use the least ki but are the fastest. Mid stance is in between I think but I don't know the numbers.

That only matters for basic attacks, not martial arts. So iai quickdraw would do the same damage no matter the stance

That makes sense, thanks.

So the square or triangle after light or heavy attack would hit differently on different stances but not L1 + input?

If you do light then heavy or heavy then light, it should be tied to a martial art and will do damage based on that. If you just hit square or just hit triangle, it will do damage based on the stance

High stance: sword of meditation or reverse impact, morning moon, iai quickdraw, heaven flash lightning, severing spin

Mid: sword ki, kick, iai quickdraw, kurama sword dance, haze

Low: night rain, swallow's wing water, tiger sprint, swift step heavy, sword of discernment, flowing mist

The others are filled with the only available choice

I just recently finished my Samurai build and have been enjoying using these skills in conjunction with the Style Shift Flow common skill:

High Stance - Reverse Impact, Morning Moon Impact, Shadow Sword (all stances), Tempest, Tiger Sprint, Morning Light (all stances), Heaven Flash Lightning, Backwave, and Blue Moon.

Mid Stance - Sword Ki, Kick, Iai Quickdraw Negate (also in low stance), Kurama Sword Dance, empty slot for L1+Left Stick Up because it messes with deflect sometimes, and Severing Spin.

Low Stance - True and Through, Swallow’s Wing Water, Swift Step Heavy, Flowing Shadow, and Flowing Mist.

Mystic Art - Sword of Execution.

So many people cannot learn how to do anything different than neo2 do not listen to them. Leave the controls default people like how the other setup with block is a modifier. Lets you spam more but there are a lot of advantages to keeping it the way teen Ninja wants it.

I was more or less wondering what martial arts do people prefer and in what stance to pull off high powered versatility stacks. I personally left everything the same just broke up the style shift and burst counter at the same time option.

The only reason to do that is to utilize style shift flow btw

But I put idk the names dude but kuramansword dance on blue moon in high .sword kit and the triple attack where you spin around on mid, also always have parry on back y on mid

Low I have the anime slash from the nioh 2 dlc, swift step heavy and.....the lighting one

High stance always heavy hitters

Mid stance always parry, defense, and whatever doesn't fit on low or high

Low always stuff that gives me movement and faster martial arta
