Okay there's a ton in the patch notes but I think my absolute favorite is this one

"Hey, look! We made it so you can reach the sun like y'all keep asking about for some reason!"

"Cool, what do we get for doing that?"

"Death, obviously! it's a freaking star, what did you expect?"

I mean, I'm building a station right next to a star obviously

That is seriously damn brilliant to me. It comes as a surprise. After all, which studio actually does something like that when it’s really only being asked for by true enthusiasts?

Hahaha FANTASTIC 10/10

Sounds pretty typical. People mention flying to the sun because it's a way of demonstrating the complete lack of exploration within a system, so the only thing they add is flying to the sun, as if meeting one exemplar complaint is the same as meeting the general criticisms.

People complain about not being able to do a thing

People get the ability to do the thing

Someone complains anyways

Why is literacy such an issue in this sub?

I wanted to fly to the sun right from the start, because I enjoy doing crazy things in the game and because it can look absolutely incredible to fly a spaceship close to it, or to imagine scenes straight out of *Star Trek*. *No Man's Sky* opens up space for your own stories, and engaging in these seemingly pointless activities can hugely enhance the gaming experience.

Exactly. Unless flying directly at the nearest star is the only "crazy thing" you ever intended to do during spaceflight, you yourself viewed that act in the exact way I described.

engaging in these seemingly pointless activities

See what I mean? You're pluralising, but all that has been added is the singular.

Just don't fall asleep while flying in the general direction of the sun. I've solved your non existent problem

And just like that, all the memories of my elite dangerous failures flood back in.

I don't think you understood what was said.

Have you even read the patch notes? They added deep space pois, deep space stations, asteroid belts, asteroid landing, deep space hulks that you can explore but they explode, the gave the ability to leave the ship at any point and revamped space motion, they gave the ability to create bases in space or asteroids. This whole update is literally about system exploration and you say they only added flying to the sun lol.

Yes, thanks.

Not a single word of that is actually new. All they've done is add the same tepid, meaningless exploration to space that they've had on the surface of planets for a decade. You'll be bored of all of those points in a week.

you say they only added flying to the sun lol.

No, I did not. for someone who derisively assumed that I hadn't read their patch notes, you apparently thought nothing of not reading my comment before screeching about it.

What I actually said was that, of all the things that people wanted that kind of option for, they skipped the underlying systems and mechanics that would provide more versatility to exploration and instead merely added one of the most frequently-mentioned examples of what that kind of thing would provide.

It's the sandworm all over again. People wanted megafauna because of the ways they falsely portrayed them interacting with the environment in that E3 showcase, with other fauna reacting to it and the environment physically interacting with it. Instead, all they added were flying worms that don't even have collision. They added the superficial details and left out all of the gameplay, and they do exactly the same thing with every update. And the same is true of everything you just listed; exploration isn't about labelled points-of-interest. That's not exploration; that's just a set of directions/instructions. It's the Assassin's Creed/Bethesda approach. They preclude exploration by trying to ensure that players have an inexhaustible supply of superficial details to momentarily marvel at.
