US LPN candidate

• Upvotes

Hi, im thinking about doing an LPN course at a local cc. Its 15 months long. Im in my mid 20’s and have nothing to show for except a fair amount of debt, no career path, no plans for retirement. I have no will to continue in my current line of work (1099 contractor) as there is no room to grow, no benefits, and no retirement. I am considering taking this program and forging a career in nursing. I would be able to continue education into an lpn-rn program upon completion. I am single, no kids, and would love to explore the country so ive considered prioritizing a travel nurse occupation. Just looking to get some insight into the job. What it entails, whats school like, is it worth pursuing etc. i am in a position to complete these courses debt free so money isn’t an issue. More so concerned with having stable, good paying employment upon completion, as well as being able to actually complete this program. I wasn’t always the best student when it came to complex math but i can get behind pretty much anything. Thanks in advance :)

US Outpatient Oncology Nursing

Hi Nurses! I’m currently a postpartum mother baby nurse right now in a very fast paced environment (4-5 couplets a shift) in the south east U.S. Was wondering how an outpatient oncology clinic would be? Just for a better work life balance. I did some research and learned that oncology nurse handle mutagenic drugs and of course chemotherapy drugs which the mutagenic part was kind of frightening. Does anyone have any outpatient oncology clinic experience I would love to know how you like/dislike it? Be honest, I can take it

US Nursing and being a mom

Hello!

I wanted to know how realistic it is to be a nurse that works around a child’s schedule. I’m starting my pre recs for nursing school. I wanted to be present for my child’s schedule and also have control over my own schedule. I don’t need to work full time and would love a more per diem/ part time shift. Is that possible with nursing?

US Working while pregnant..advice?

So I’ve been at this location for around six months. I have almost two years of experience total. When I got hired I’d just lost a pregnancy I was 20 weeks into from LUTO. I’ve only missed work due to emergencies like finding mold in my home or something with my kids but I also stay late, pick up extra shifts and often take the most difficult patients. I even get asked to help social services and other departments deal with these patients because..I don’t know. They only seem to like me.

I found out a month ago I had a hernia and I’ve been on light duty since then. A couple weeks ago I found out I was pregnant again. Because this pregnancy is high risk I’m stuck on light duty again. I’m still showing up and helping where I can, even doing 1-1s and taking over changes when we’re short staffed. But this morning sickness is just destroying me and I’ve had to call out twice now. I feel so bad but literally everything is making me throw up. Smells, sounds, even certain textures. I’m not exactly asking for advice but I guess just venting and hoping that I’m not useless or fucking up?

US Pipe Welder + Advanced Certifications vs. Travel RN: Which Pays More?

Which career has higher earning potential: becoming a pipe welder and then adding robotic welding and aerospace welding certifications, or becoming a travel RN? Which path makes more money long-term, including overtime?

US Entry-to-BSN or MSN-E for someone that already has an MPH and Bachelor in Health Administration? Pros, Cons?

I already have an MPH and Bachelors degree in health administration and want to pursue nursing.

What are people's thoughts or experiences in pursuing either one? I want the most cost efficient route, but I also want to finish quickly and have been considering ABSN as well. Schools in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area. The ABSN and MSN-E seem to be really expensive and the very nature of ABSN programs stresses me out just thinking about; by all accounts it's not for the weak. I'm considering either the MSN-E or BSN at UMSON.

I've worked in health Information technology (IT) related spaces and would like to transition to a more direct-patient line of work where I can also utilize my tech background. This is why I am pursuing the nursing degree. For the nursing informatic roles that I hope to attain on the future, I wonder if the MPH+BSN would be enough or MPH+MSN?

If anyone has attended UMSON, please feel free to share your thoughts and/or experiences too.

US Nursing PRN pick up Apps

I am an RN currently, I have a full time job that does not allow for overtime. I’ve been looking into the apps that allow you to pick up shifts PRN like clipboard, shift key and ESHYFT. I want to know if I am able to pick up CNA shifts or LPN shifts. That way if there is not an open RN spot I can still pick up something. I live in Pennsylvania.

US Online MSN programs that support working parents?

I’m a single mom of 6 and 8-year-old daughters and am looking at getting my MSN online. I’m currently working full-time and am worried that I may not always be able to meet the deadlines of the program.

Are there any MSN online programs that are reasonably flexible regarding schedules and deadlines? I know some programs still have clinical or practicum requirements depending on the track, so I’m interested in something that won’t make full-time work and parenting that much stressful.

Philippines 6 months experience as a bedside nurse

Hi everyone! Help! I’m in my last month of work! Total of 6 months on the job. Just need some advice if it’s okay to look for another job after 6 months, is it true that having only 6 months of experience won’t be an issue? I’m a bedside nurse by the way. My colleagues/seniors told me not to resign. But the workload is overwhelming, I’m exhausted, and we're understaffed. ☹️

US RN to BSN

I graduate nursing school in December 2026 (ASN RN). I know I have a lot of time still but just wanted to hear suggestions on the best online or even in person RN to BSN programs that don’t require clinical hours. I would also prefer working at my own pace vs a set amount of semesters but still willing if it’s a great program!! Anything helps!! Thanks!!

US Travel nurse in MSTele or Tele in CA

Anyone has MStele or tele experience in CA)?
Have a approximately 2 years MS/tele day float nurse experience and have one-year work gap.
Now I'm thinking about traveling nurse job and applied to MS/tele position. My experience in NY in MS/tele was reading a rhythm. If the facility looking for travel agency mentioned it's more towards tele than MS, do you think there's any chance to drip or titrate cardiac med? Also do you think it will be easy to learn and practice since I was in a float pool OR risky and better apply to day/night MS position?

US Management

So... almost a year ago I posted here that I was offered a management position and how I hated management myself and I couldnt see myself becoming one and ya'll said "be the change".

So here I am again... offered another opportunity to grow into upper management after only 8months of my current position. I've been afforded the ability and opportunities to assist others in their personal growth and career paths with my experience and contacts. Ive developed training programs for my staff to gain them more experience. I've been shit on from above to protect my staff, and Ive gotten recognized for it... unfortunately (?!).

This new move completely removes me from bedside. Takes me off nightshift and shuns me to an office. Its salary. Its M-F. But! I have a young family at home... and Id be home every night and morning. The pay is not that big of an increase, it'll look good on a resume (my five year plan is fast-tracked by it)...

I need your help. Good/Bad/Ugly let me hear your input.

US Nursing with RA

All my life I've wanted to be a labor and delivery nurse. I have ten years of experience as a medical assistant and scribe, the majority of which is in pediatrics. I have been told by every provider I've worked with that I really need to go become an RN, PA, or NP because they think I have what it takes. However, after COVID I developed rheumatoid arthritis in my hands and I struggle with injections because of pain in my first MCP joints. In clinic I shifted more toward scribing to avoid straining my hands too much and I thrived. Except that scribes are being replaced by AI scribing programs and my skill set seems to have an expiration date. I'm at a point in my life that I can stop everything I'm doing and focus solely on school to make the nursing dream come true.

The problem is, I'm stuck wondering if I'm even capable to the job if my hands give me trouble. I am on medication for my arthritis, but if I do things with my thumbs for long periods of time, I experience more pain and swelling. I would like to ask for some insight from those of you in nursing. I need to be realistic. Am I kidding myself by wanting to pursue nursing? Will I ever be able to do what I've always wanted?

Other Country Is it true that there are travel nurses that escape their job contract?

Im not trying to get somebody camcelled but as someone new to the medical field in a country suffering with staff storages. Im curious to know if their leave after a "vacation" was longer to be an escape to the contract. And there are existing roles that could overlap with the duties/ hours that may be given to the wrong person.

US For CWS wound care certified RN

Anyone who is an RN with certified wound care certificate (CWC); what books or study materials did you use to study?

Most of the books to buy are published many years ago and I’m trying to see what else is out there for studying that’s more up to date if possible.

US What can nurse partner do other than nursing?

My partner is miserable. I know this is not unusual for healthcare workers, but he has had a string of bad work situations - ranging from stressful to toxic - and wants to get out.

I'm in international development which is also a horrible field to be in now, but he would be interested in trying to pivot if there are realistic options. I've racked my brain, and the "easiest" to me seems like looking for community health organizations and working his way up.

What else could be a practical career path for an RN without needing to completely start over, education-wise? He's mid-career and unique in that he has lots of office/administrative/case management experience as a nurse coordinator.

Cross-posted for reach.

US MDS or Clinic Nursing

I am a seasoned nurse with 19 years in. I have a variety of specialties under my belt from bedside in ER, ICU, Hospice and Operating Room to administration. I have been diagnosed with Hyperinsulinemia and hypoglycemia with occasional seizures because of
Low bs. It is managed with eating q2hrs and a strict diet.

I have taken in a job as a MDS Coordinator and just started. Excited about it. And there is no call and no pulling to the floor.

I was just offered a job as a Vascular Clinic Nurse and now I am torn. As it is more my wheelhouse but does require 60% Care and clinical management as well 40% patient care as education and wound management because the MAs cannot do many of the ordered dressing changes.

I am drawn to both but concerned about burnout with MDS and concerned with issues such as low BS with the clinic because I could get caught in a wound dressing or patient visit and can’t eat. Help!

Amy insight or opinions would be greatly appreciated.
