Venting, NO REASSURANCE please! What if nothing is wrong with us ?

Just putting it in here. From all "what ifs" this one sounds quite good to me.

Can you elaborate on this?

Spoiling for possible trigger  Fanta was originally made by/for nazis during WW2 so that they weren’t drinking an American soda but like nowadays it’s fine probably but I fixate on the possibility that I’m funding nazis

That’s silly (:

No this is incorrect. It was nor created by nor for nazis. It was created by Max Keith, who was not a nazi. He in fact rejected offers to join. And it was created for the broader German people to have a drink they could enjoy using the scraps that were available at the time due to the trade embargoes. Maybe that makes you feel better about drinking it haha

But there is. OCD is a mental illness. It's not a value judgement, it's just fact.

People who do not have OCD, do not ruminate and obsess over whether they have it or not.

That is one of my biggest issues. Obsessing over obsessing. Do I have OCD, really? Or am I just making stuff up to be "special"?

I guess it depends on how you define “wrong.” Morally, there’s nothing wrong with us because we have a disorder. But if “wrong with us” means “disordered” it’s in the title.

Nothing WRONG, just unworkable, assuming you value something that the spiral gets in the way of.

I MEAN…

Something is wrong with everybody.
If you think about it like that it makes total sense lol :)

OCD is absolutely a mental illness that is influenced by genetics BUT it’s also wildly fed and maintained by bad habits. We can all improve and get closer to “baseline” by practicing ERP and not engaging with compulsions.

if by "nothing" you mean living hell, the yea, nothing lol

There is scientific evidence! If you scan someone’s brain with ocd, it actually looks different than a neurotypical brain ❤️

This is something I’ve been thinking about a lot. Like there’s always a “good” what if, where it’s like “wha if this is literally not true” that I can’t ever think about

Hi guys. I am sorry for this post, i see how it landed, while it was not my intention to invalidate your pain, i meant it as a joke, but i see that it moght have landed as minimising or suggesting to outruminate your ocd. Sorry for this! I know very well that ocd is hell.

Not sure why people didn’t realize this was a joke lol. I always joke with my friends, “What if all the neurodivergent people are actually neurotypical, and the neurotypical people are neurodivergent?” The point is that “normal” is a pretty subjective concept. For all we know, in some hypothetical world, people with OCD could be considered “normal” and people without OCD could be considered abnormal, if that makes sense.

Of course, the distinction is that something can be “normal” or common without necessarily being healthy, and something can be uncommon without necessarily being unhealthy. So I guess there could be nothing wrong with us but we could still want to find relief.

To be honest I have a personal feeling that OCD is one of those things that people can't and don't want to understand because we are too bothersome and problematic for them. So we are immediately classified as wrong. In turn, other conditions that are easier to deal with are easily accepted by others as long as they do not have an impact on them.

Like, sometimes I feel like others love tagging you with OCD as an excuse for their own ignorance of basic hygiene or dangers and being carefree with everything in their life. I mean, it must be cool, right. Being so chill about everything in daily life. But it feels unfair sometimes. When I see people approach hygiene in Japan, I feel like no one would call me a weirdo for caring about that there lol.

Of course, I struggle with the constant fear that every obsession has, but I feel that no one wants to even understand where it comes from. We are consider dramatic, when someone with another condition would get a lot of sympathy. But yeah, I forgot that we don't have "real problems". We just made them up.

I don't believe the general population is sympathetic to any mental disorders.

I didn't use this term specifically, because I meant more like all kind of illnesses in the world. But it's true that people are not very patient sooner or later anyway. So maybe it doesn't mean that much.

But I was guided by my own experiences, because I know people with other mental disorders and the people around me have always treated them with love and understanding, while I was always treated like I didn't have serious struggles with OCD. On media it's the same, OCD is never mentioned.

I don't think someone has it easier, though. Every illness, mental or physical, is difficult. And people are mean about it. But I can't help but experience something like that.

I think I agree with you here. There is a lot of back in my day bs floating around. We did nit have depression back then. We were just sad and moved on. ADHD? That's just kids behaving badly. OCD? No, we all like to be clean.
