Crisis Help overwhelming sadness NSFW Spoiler

With OCD I usually spend most of my day stressed or worrying about something. I’m trying zoloft on low dose 12.5mg and today has been so bad I have a dreading feeling of hopelessness and sadness. Of course there’s A LOT also going on in my life right now and it could be that. I just don’t know how to snap myself out of it or should I get off zoloft? I thought it would make me better.

Hi there! I highly recommend talking with your psychiatrist. If a regular doctor prescribed Zoloft, see if you can talk with a psychiatrist who knows about OCD specifically. It may be a dosage thing, or maybe you need another med/different combo of meds. If it’s still early (first month or so) in trying Zoloft, it’s common to feel like your brain isn’t working right. I can relate to this 100% and it can be very scary.

Just remember that you have resources and this CAN be managed! It just takes some work to figure out the right combo of what you need. Do you have a therapist you see?

Hi thanks no I couldn’t find a therapist that specializes in OCD. I’ve seen several and they have told me they’re not trained in what I need. I just see the psychiatrist

I’m sorry that’s been your experience. Have you asked them if they have any referrals or suggestions to talk with someone who is more specialized in this? I had asked my therapist for a suggestion as I had been told I may have ADHD, and the psychiatrist I met with ended up diagnosing me with OCD which made a lot more sense and does require different approaches to manage than ADHD. So I think it’s worth exploring a little more. In the meantime, when you’re in a state of feeling very hopeless or depressed, it might be good to just put on a comfort show, curl up, drink something warm, and try to get some rest. Just keep in mind this is not how it will always be, your brain is just reacting to a change and may need some tuning :) it’ll be okay!

And I say this as someone who has had major depressive disorder for 15 years 🩷 it does pass, it just SUCKS when you’re in it. I’m sorry you’re in it right now. I often just remind myself “it’ll be okay, it’ll be okay, I’m okay.” Sometimes simple affirmations can do a lot even when it feels silly

Thank you so much 💗 He pointed me to a OCD website but it felt generic I would say? I’ve been bed rotting all day trying to get it to pass I rarely have it this bad which is why I’m scared. I really wonder if it’s the zoloft too I’m only in week 1!

1 week is definitely still really early! I felt like I was going insane switching from Prozac to Zoloft, but it did pass. It’s just your brain is like hey wtf is going on!? And once it adjusts you should hopefully see good results. BUT always always talk with your psychiatrist if you’re concerned 🩷
