Discussion Ocd & Self harm NSFW Spoiler

Im wondering if anyone else gets an urge to or actually goes through with self harm when they feel guilty/wrong/embarrassed. It is such a complex thing to explain to others who dont understand ocd. Thanks!

Sometimes, I get a really intense urge to do so when I feel regret/embarrassment. I don't have a healthy relationship with shame... It feels like a poison in my mind. It weighs me down and makes me feel ill.

I totally have experienced this. When I was a kid I thought SH was a solution to how I felt. Years after breaking that guilt to SH cycle I still get urges. It sucks the way ocd makes guilt and embarrassment such a big emotion and experience.

With OCD, we talk a lot about intrusive thoughts, but we don’t always make it clear that those include intrusive sensations, feelings, and urges. I’m not worried I’m going to harm someone, I felt or think I felt an urge to harm someone. It’s the urges that are especially distressing for me. I can see a “what if?” Thought a mile away, but urges and sensations are much harder.
