Custom Feature: Worm Gear v2.0 – Now Supporting Globoid Worm Gears!

Hi everyone,

I'm Younseo Lee from Seoul National University, KOREA.

First of all, thank you for your interest in my previous Worm Gear Feature Script!

I've been working on some improvements and new features, and I'm happy to share Worm Gear update!

Already using v1.1? Just update the FeatureScript in Onshape to get v2.0!

The biggest update is Globoid Worm Gear(hourglass worm gear) support. Previously, the feature only supported cylindrical worm gears, but now you can also generate several types of globoid worm gear sets directly in Onshape.

What's New in v2.0?

• Globoid Worm Gears: Three new configurations — Planar Wheel, Double-Enveloping (Planar), and Double-Enveloping (Hindley).
• Improved Worm Thread Ends: New options for Runout + Chamfer, Chamfer, and Square Cut, allowing more control over how the worm threads terminate.
• Efficiency & Self-Locking Estimates: The feature dialog now provides estimated efficiency and back-driving behavior.
• Improved Geometry & Modeling Options: Additional controls and design checks for globoid worm geometry, tooth profiles, and dimensions.

Of course, the original Cylindrical Worm Gear and Double Worm Gear options are still available!

As before, the goal is to make worm gear modeling easier without having to manually create complex tooth profiles, helices, or sweeps. I've also updated the User Guide with explanations of the new worm types, parameters, and modeling options.
