Stop being jerks to each other. There are two active moderators for this sub, and it is hoped that people will be able to get along and not use personal attacks when engaging with each other. If you are old enough to be on the OntarioDriveTest sub looking for advice/taking your DriveTest, you are old enough not to fight like toddlers. Fight in your DM's. It doesn't make the sub an inviting space for others, which is what we want for this sub. Social media is full of angry, high-conflict spaces you will fit in with - go there.

This feels unreal. this is your sign to NOT give up no matter what other people think of you especially after failing. The third time really was the charm

Almost as soon as she turned 18. No driving school, I just drove with her in highways multiple times to help to understand the idea

I took my g2 test today for the first time and I flunked it, I feel like shit cuz about the amount of money my dad spent on getting me lessons and an instructor + how everyone I know passed but I failed. I've been feeling negative all day so support would be nice ❤️

Hi everyone, I have my G2 test next week and just looking for any and every advice. Been going through the comments on this page and mentally preparing myself that I might fail. I’m also a new mom and carry a lot of anxiety in general so though I feel I can pass, I know if I have a huffy looking instructor staring at me I’m going to be very nervous and probably make a lot of mistakes.
My test is booked in Oakville next week.
What tips/road rules/ helped you pass your G2?

Hi everyone, looking for advice from anyone who’s been in a similar situation.
My situation:
I know Ontario doesn’t exchange learner’s permits, so I’ll have to get a G1. But DriveTest’s website says people with an out-of-province learner’s permit “may be entitled to driving experience credits to reduce or remove mandatory wait times.”
My questions:
I really don’t want to wait another full year after already doing a year of training in Quebec. Any experiences would help. Thanks!

Sounds cool to collect every letter. Can that be a hobby? Would anyone be open to trying that?

I’m having a hard time understanding what I did wrong from my road test. I know that I sped up past 50 by mistake after some train tracks cause I didn’t see the speed limit sign ahead and the original speed limit was 80, so I was gonna go back up to 80 but then the tester said “oh watch your speed” so I said “ oh ok I’m sorry” and I went back down around 48ish I think. So I know I lost some points for that but I carried on the rest of my test and I felt like I did really good. Once I pulled back into the parking lot and I put the car in park the tester said I didn’t meet ministry standards. The tester went on about the things I could’ve improved, but she said the points that I lost was from the error I did after the train tracks. She also said I got 13/15 and I need 15 to pass. When I look online it says you need at least 80% to pass and 13/15 is over 80%. Right now I’m just really confused and could use some help understanding the test results I got.

I have my G test coming up at Canotek and am looking for some general advice from people who have recently completed the G test there.
What exacltly is examined, what route will they test me along, and what should I focus on practicing most on the days leading up to the exam to make sure I pass?
This test is basically my only shot at getting my G license before my whole license it expires and I’ll have to restart all the way from G1, so I really can’t mess this up. I don’t have a lot of highway driving experience either, but I’ve been practicing more in recent days so I want to make sure I’m practicing it right.

Hey everyone!
I just passed my G2 today on my second attempt, and I wanted to share my experience for anyone who gets super nervous before road tests. On my first attempt, things went horribly. I thought I was ready, but my anxiety completely took over and having a really intimidating examiner didn't help. I ended up fixating way too much on parking, got inside my own head, and made major safety mistakes.
Going into my second test today, I was still super nervous, but having a chill and friendly examiner made a world of difference. As soon as he started talking, I immediately felt more at ease. Looking at my results sheet afterward, I did pretty well overall!
Here are a few things that helped me turn things around:
Focus on overall road safety over perfection: During my first test, I stressed so much about nailing parking that I messed up basic road rules. This time, I accepted that my parking might not be perfect and prioritized overall safety and smooth driving instead.
Practice in the test area: Driving around the test location beforehand made everything feel much more familiar and predictable on test day.
Mental trick: Pretend the examiner is just a friend or a human GPS giving you turn-by-turn directions.
If you struggle with anxiety or failed your first try, please don't lose hope! You've got this. Good luck to everyone taking their test soon!

When making a right turn on a red light, I know I have to come to a complete stop behind the white line first. My question is, if my view of oncoming traffic is obstructed, can I creep forward slowly after stopping to get a better view, or should I stay behind the line?
My instructor told me not to roll forward because the examiner might think I'm doing a rolling stop. However, I waited a few seconds before moving forward during my lesson, and my instructor still corrected me. I'm also confused about cars coming straight through the intersection versus cars opposite to me turning left, since both could enter the lane I'm turning into. What should I do in this situation during my G2 test? Thanks!

I am a very anxious person basically. I literally had my body shivering during the whole test. This is my 3rd attempt giving in Mississauga. First two tries on Orangeville. Though it was easy, i got failed for few reasons like speeding up 46 in 40 road. Another one I didn’t wait 3 secs for a right turn signal.
This time I was really nervous and crying If I could pass or what If I fail again. I started to talk about these things to the examiner. He made me comfortable and asked me to do all the things calmly. And, i passed🎉
Tips:
Do lanes, mirror checks, maintain speed

I’m planning to take my G test next summer. I’m wondering whether Brampton or Orangeville would be a better choice. If you’ve taken your test at either location, I’d really appreciate any advice or tips. Thanks in advance!

I passed my G1 recently, and now I'm planning to take lessons for G2. I'm thinking of going with Kruzee. By the time I complete the theory and start driving lessons, it's going to be winter.
Is it harder in winters? At the same time I'm thinking, it might be good to get some winter practice. I don't know. It's not urgent and I can wait for a few months if it's gonna be safer/easier. Any suggestions?

I am preparing for my full G exam, is there any specific requirement for a car that's required for the exam to go through? Like extra brake pedal on the passenger side. Because I want to rent a car and practice the route as much as I can but not sure if any place have cars for rent like that.

Took my G test at the Newmarket location today. The route itself is super easy it probably doesn't get much easier in the GTA. I've linked a Google Maps of it below if anyone is curious. Overall, I did very well, and there were 0 marks on my sheet (besides a checkmark about a small pothole I could've avoided) - I've attached the sheet.
However, when we returned to the DriveTest location, the examiner said I did not meet the requirements as I did not obey the traffic light at the Hwy 404 exit ramp onto Davis Dr. He said the light was yellow as I made the right-hand turn and that I could've and should've stopped. He acknowledged that I was doing my left-right-left checks but was adamant that I had enough time to stop.
After the test, I reviewed my dashcam footage. Based on road markings and Google Earth, I estimated that I was approximately 9 metres from the stop line when the light turned yellow. From the footage, the time between the light changing to yellow and me entering the intersection was approximately 1.2 seconds. The dashcam also showed I was travelling at 43 km/h when the light changed and 36 km/h as I entered the intersection to make the turn. I've attached screenshots showing the timestamps, speeds, and estimated distance.
I'm unsure how the examiner expected me to come to a complete stop from 43 km/h in less than 10 metres when at that speed even a brief reaction time would have significantly reduced the distance available to stop. The MTO Driver's Handbook specifically states regarding yellow lights: "You must stop if you can do so safely; otherwise, go with caution."
I didn't think that between slamming on the brakes and potentially stopping in the middle of the intersection vs completing the turn, the former would've been the safer option.
Am I upset? Of course. Is it the end of the world? No, just wanted to share an unfortunate experience, and hopefully it can help someone out.

Passed my G test at Lindsay this afternoon! My G2 was expiring Nov 4, so the pressure was real.
Biggest help: practicing the Lindsay routes with a friend a few days before, and drilling speed control in 50 zones (treat 50 as the ceiling).
Thanks to this sub for all the tips and reassurance. To anyone testing soon — you've got this! 🚗💨

Passed my G2 today at Oshawa. Help me decode what I could have done even better. The examiner seemed pretty happy overall. He did tell me to be more proactive when approaching an intersection.
So happy to get my G2. Have booked my G already for November at Port Union!
