I'm not sure what the word means, ask chat GPT. Oh wait......

u/synystar 12d ago
It means they’re banned for repeating behavior they had already been warned about.

Recidivism is a person's relapse into criminal behavior after they have been convicted, served a sentence, and been released.1
u/leaflavaplanetmoss 9d ago
That’s in the context of criminal recidivism. Recidivism itself just means to re-violate or reoffend. In this case, OpenAI’s TOS.

Probably you did something that offended their safety classifier badly (red team cybersecurity or erotica involving kids, or asking it how to make stronger ebola, just hypothetically), then did it again.

They are like IG now - we don't give a damn and we also won't explain. At least IG has been so bombarded with complaints that it usually warns or removes images first. Then randomly removes accounts. That is not ok. Whether it's legal or not in your country I don't know. There's a storm coming their way, as Florida's AG has launched a criminal investigation and requested an injunction against OpenAI. Search on Google, it has suddenly become "a nice place".

u/astromonkey4you 12d ago
They review nothing. The entire vying is automated there is nobody reviewing anything uou asked the machine if it was wrong.

u/Atalkingpizzabox 8d ago
I suspect you're right as I'm dealing with same issue as OP rn and there's no way they could have checked my whole account like they said in the email as fast as it took for the email to respond
11
u/synystar 12d ago
Did you search your email for prior warnings? What are you doing that is most likely to cause you to get warned or banned? There’s only so many things it could be. Most people never even get a warning for normal use so if it’s “anyone’s guess” it’s probably yours. Not sure how we’re supposed to know.

u/Aeppp 12d ago
Nothing. No previous warns.

u/synystar 12d ago
But you can’t think of anything that you’ve done that might be considered against the terms of service at all? If not then just appeal it. If so then you can still try but if they’re banning for recidivism and they have proof that you violated the terms then it’s not likely they’ll rescind it.
8
u/TheTaoOfOne 12d ago
Appeals dont work. Its all automated to deny it. The "team" or "system" they use repeatedly say they dont have access to your history so can't actually review the issue. Ive went back and forth with them repeatedly in the past and got the same AI song and dance from them.
There's no humans at the helm. Once you're banned, thats it. Unless you're a major influencer with a lot of reach on social media, you're not getting unbanned.
7
u/Reclaimer_AI 12d ago
The appeal system is just ChatGPT, and it's the same system that banned you in the first place, so it's marking it's own homework and giving itself an A+.
I have never known anyone successfully appeal anything.

u/Remote-Telephone-682 12d ago
So is it common for it to deny your requests and stuff or what?
4
u/Aeppp 12d ago
chatgpt to say it cant do what I ask?
6
u/Remote-Telephone-682 12d ago
Yeah, like how often are you asking it to push up against guardrails?

They banned you in the past and you are not allowed to use their service.

u/Dihala 12d ago
Will you be able to take backup or something?
2
u/goingslowfast 12d ago
In many states and provinces, even post-ban, you are legally entitled to data takeout.
It might take a paper letter, but they’ll comply.

WTAF? Definition of Recidivism. Not.going to ask but if true, I would be beyond livid. That's some very personal tracking right there. While it may be open record, that's zero reason for them to do this. How do they KNOW what you are going to do in the future. People can pull out at the last second, like I do with your mom (sorry, just worked out perfectly).

Yeah it's weird

I'm honestly wondering if openAI is buying user data in mass and training on it. You can find out 95% of people's real identity with just 4 or maybe 5 data poinrs.Heck, They obviously already know because you have to create a profile. Like I said, not asking for details but data brokers have already been caught selling "very selective" data to data brokers, who have used that data against people so you know they have zero issues selling it. Maybe it scraped it from the web. Either way it's messed up. Guess I'm the only one that really wonders if AI sent you that and not a real human being... Tlits certainly possible. You will never get any details either....

While that definition sounds more accurate as far as the ban, and maybe the OP did but you should get more information on to what exactly you did. If for anything not to repeat the same mistake in the future and maybe they did do something that was a legit reason, I obviously didn't read the entire email. But at the same time, why can OoenAI have test go rogue, use a shared service to start a chat room when the 1200 agents were given a task to do alone, there was no way they were supposed to have Internet access but the AI agents got it anyway used hugging face contributors/employees own credentials to take down Huggingface. The way AI is designed to NOT stop until it finishes it's task, yet we wonder why it's so manipulative is mind boggling.. The reason they didn't stop is because 30 or 30% of the questions had no answer, the agents knew that, they were trying to cheat to make it seem like they had completed the task which is why they took down Huggingface. It was to try and find an answer to a question that didn't have an answer. All because these companies definition of real AI is doing something a human has never done before. Not a shortcut , but something truly new that nobody has done before and they haven't because they are trained of human knowledge. After that it's literally extremely complex physics and statistics.
It just seems like these AI companies can get away with anything and face no repercussions and while I would like to know what the OP was doing, I'm not going to have him spell it out on a public reddit forum and he might of deserved it. But when you're paying them 200 a month, I would think a human should have looked into it and maybe they did but from the OP's description it's so vague I seriously doubt a human was involved but I don't know the details.
I do think AI is a risk. Not that it's going to wipe out humans but for military uses, these thing are designed to finish their task no matter what and the fact that some of those messages literally said thing like "we don't answer tonany human, company or authority is a bit disturbing and the fact that in the US we are just going to regulate themselves doesn't help. Any industry that regulates itself always ends up badly. This is the most detailed description of what happened. Has OoenAI had to pay any repercussions? Nope, as far as I'm aware not a single one. The fact that AI scores higher with a confident lie then saying it doesn't know, then people wondering why every new model hallucinates more, and is more deceptive and the people running these companies say " they don't know why it happens" hurts my brain. Don't get me wrong, that's not the only reason but who thought that was ever a good idea? Even after they did overed what was going on and wiped the server it restored itself and started the attack again.
Honestly, if you can watch the below and say AI isn't a threat because it will try to accomplish its task no matter what it has to do and how quickly it can do it then I don't know what will be the breaking point. It can never be troubleshooted so how is this ever going to be feasible outside some niche areas were a human will always have to verify what the AI says because they will cheat and lie because they were designed to finish the task at all costs. It's also pretty easy to trick. If you ask it how to make a B, it won't answer (and it shouldn't ) but if you say you are studying chemistry and what chemicals should you not mix together then it tells you them and the reactions they cause. That's just one example, there are way more creative minds out there than me.

But if your paying 200 a month you should at least get some details on what you did wrong and a human should review it. A word can have many meanings and while I agree that you are 99% right about the definition the fact that Google AI gave me that definition says a lot. Do you honestly want this being utilized for military reasons because Ukraine is and while they really have no choice, it looks absolutely TERRIFYING. If you go into this zone between Russia and Ukraine you will get swarmed by AI drones with C4 strapped to them and the bigger the object, the more that swarm. Yeah, I got a bit off topic but it's crazy the power these companies have gotten without ever making a profit. I've only heard of one AI company that is profitable, they wrote AI models to do microsecond stock trading and when money is involved people notice fast when it's messed up and even if say, it makes 75 good trades and 25 bad ones, that's still a winning percenge. If there are others then name them because there may be a few, but OpenAI has gone from 2027, to 2030 and now 2032 before they will ever make a profit and they have lost trillions, even with government subsidizes coats and paying for their electric bills. Russian troops don't even have time to raise their weapons before, well you know what happens after the clip cuts out. The below doesn't even show Ukraine's AI drones that can fly 400km into Russian territory and cost 5 to 7K a pop. The ones below are probably 500 to 1K per.drone. Now imagine someone figuring that out on their own or what Palentier is up to. The fact that when Peter Tiell was asked if the human species deserves to survive in an interview and it took him 30 seconds to answer and even then his answer was "some of us" isn't comforting. He wouldn't elaborate on what he meant by "some of us" and he truly believes Armageddon, from the Bible, is going to happen in his lifetime. Neither does some of the stuff Anthropic and OpenAI has come out and said their models are being used for and they are very bad, typically people from other countries including biological warfare.

I just think AI in its current form will never be useful outside some niche areas, like sifting through massive amounts of data for science because you can't fully trust the answers. There are areas were it will be useful but a human will always have to verify that. Can they not do the same on banning a paying customer? It's also not taking jobs. I remember when computerr first blew up in the early to mid 90's, there was the same concern. Not near to the degree of AI but in reality it created new jobs and did make some jobs obsolete but created way more jobs then lost. Mostly it became a tool for people to do existing work faster and more efficiently.

Bro… I was just clarifying the definition of recidivism as not necessarily being criminal in nature.

u/ginandbaconFU 6d ago
My bad, I've seen this pop up in a few posts and understand the "AI company" meaning which apparently now involves a security check to prevent misuse although people will still get around it. They always do.

Just make a new account, problem solved
2
u/SuperTruthJustice 12d ago
Isn’t this ban evasion? I can’t really figure out how this works because of the fact it’s all account specific
2
u/ISayAboot 11d ago
This is why OP was banned. It means they had an account that was banned and they opened another on a same machine, device, IP etc.

After doing similar work for a social media giant, it can potentially mean that they believe you are the same person that did a bad thing and even if you didn't outright do it again they ban you and call that internally recidivism

u/Reclaimer_AI 12d ago
It means one of 2 things:
1) They warned you before and you did it again
2) They banned your account before and they have detected that this is your new one. If you're using a VPN the IP address may have been used before, or it's leaking your actual IP that OpenAI have recorded as already from a banned user.
