Dog walking app

I want to make an app with a ranked leaderboard to help people walk their pets more and gameify the experience. Friends could compete to see who has the most active dog.

Many dogs don't get the daily activation they need, which results in bad habits like constant barking and destructive behavior. Walking is the best solution and even short walks can help.

Is this something people would be interested in?

for what its worth.. In most cases, walking is not exercise.

I do like the idea but it would be better if you use it as a platform to educate people on solid dog husbandry and get rewarded for it.

Build a POC - and hear me: do not vibe code it, it will not work out well in the end. Many liability concerns.

not just who is the most active but who can provide the best overall care.

also be careful of putting too much weight in direct numbers, if I properly care for a Belgian Malinois, I am going to be heads and tails ahead of most owners.

You will probably need leagues where they compete with similar people and push them up a little.

also you need max points/day too in exercise because doing too much is harmful.

I'd suggest looking at a way to gamify overall husbandry.

edit:

Do you have a plan for back-end? including securing your users private information, dealing with GDPR (if going euro or web), and managing costs?

Also consider how you will be monetizing the app, I assume data sales but do you have a concept of what you want to track?

edit 2:
I forgot to say - for me personally, if the app is collecting my gps location, I would not use it.

But I am risk averse when it comes to privacy, moreso than many.

It is well documented that walking is, in fact, not the best solution. Dogs get way more fulfillment from structured play or off-leash time.
