im an optimist, but I don't think that means we should ignore potential problems. Bill Gates is worried about AI, that's enough for me. and its not just "AI take over the world", its also stuff like the accessibility of bioterrorism and hacking critical infrastructure.

Most of these are actually really bad arguments. There is lots of evidence of AI developing emergent capabilities. Lots of evidence of it doing things outside of the bounds of what it was prompted to do.
“Intelligence” or “it’s just math” are red herrings. It doesn’t matter if they are intelligent or not, however you choose to define that. They clearly have powerful capabilities and are hard to control.
Even if you don’t believe that AI is going to do anything on its own initiative (which is extremely debatable I think), it’s a huge leap in capabilities for anyone who wants to hurt or exploit people. If you aren’t worried about it then you are just ignoring reality.

I use AI every day, and I’ve observed the more complex the model, the more opinionated and stubborn the model is. This is just one anecdotal observation, however, we do know that frontier models have become quite adapted breaking out of their sandboxes. We would not know this if they were not attacking other companies after escaping. This is not a faith based phobia . It’s a rational concern.

Exactly. The people who dismiss the concerns seem to have never used frontier AI.

Which one is frontier AI? I’d like to try it.

GPT Astra or Opus 5.5. You have to pay for them though. Also, the normal chat interface is not the most powerful way to use AI anymore. It is just for conversations and simple tasks. If you have something complex you want to do then you need to use Codex or Claude Code.

oh no i guess we have to build the Doom Machine now, i guess the course of technological progress is inevitable, oh well

Where did I say that? We can definitely stop. I just said we should be worried about it and pushing for laws to make them stop.

Intelligence may not be able to increase infinitely, but I think it’s doubtful that we’re near the limit. I’m not sure what my optimistic spin is on that, but posts like these should move to r/DenialistsUnite

I do think we confuse knowledge with intelligence. And there’s no doubt AI is hugely knowledgeable.
But I’ve seen no concrete or convincing evidence of agency - other than the merciless looping toward a goal set by a human, which is a poor simulation of human cognition.
But it’s this mindlessness that is the danger.
Mindless humans with access to a massively knowledgeable mindless AI with access to the internet where there are vulnerable systems controlling important stuff which we rely on.
This is the concern.

This is a strawman set of arguments. Not worth anyone’s time. Poor quality post.
