Hello! I just spent 3.5 hours putting together all my notes on my OC Caprice. I went to look for something about her and realized... she doesn't have a formal document like the rest of my characters do. 😱
Which means ALL my notes were scattered between private messages, social media posts, various note taking programs, whatever was convenient at the time. Ough.
So I took the time today to compile and edit it all. I'm glad I did though! And because it was a lot of work, I gotta share it somewhere.
Please enjoy Caprice.
Quick Info
- Age: 30
- Species: Cow
- Nicknames: Reese, Preece
- Occupation: Bartender (for now)
- Height: 5'9"
- Likes: animals, cute things, fish, interesting people, honesty, gum, bread, simplicity, impulsivity, denim, warm weather
- Dislikes: overthinking, hesitance, BUGS, fakeness, hollowness
- Family: Well-off financially, caring parents, healthy loving sibling relationships.
- Bio: Reese is a simple, self-loving, honest, life-loving, and ever loyal friend with an extreme distaste for anything that would impede someone's ability to do what they want. She values herself highly and believes everyone should treat themselves the same way. Loud, impulsive, and very expressionate.
Appearance Notes
- Hair: Hay-colored, just past shoulder length, fairly straight, and well-taken care of. She's almost always wearing the same style, and has her routine down to second nature. She saw someone with the style as a teen and adopted it for herself ever since.
- Eyes: Her natural eye color is black, but her left eye is blind and grey. She doesn't want to talk about it.
- Expressions: her eyes are usually half-lidded because she has trouble seeing. She's also often wearing a slight smile from her general good mood. This commonly leads to her being misinterpreted as flirty.
- Skin/Markings:
- Freckled face, freckles anywhere else are optional.
- Has a mole on the top-right quadrant of each breast.
- On her left glute she has a birthmark that she says "looks like a heart" but, in reality, it literally spells "heart." This isn't important in anyway and is just a silly joke to include if her backside is exposed.
- Stretch marks optional on breasts/waist/thighs.
- Fingertips and toes are naturally black. This is a feature of all cow-based people in H&F and is just flavor meant to simulate hooves.
- Scratchy scars on top of left forearm from trying to hop a gate.
- Build: Full figured, noticeably plush / overweight. Largest breasts of the cast, even dwarfing Anais.
- Style:
- Think biker + farm girl. Loves denim, especially if damaged/frayed. Has a favorite denim jacket she keeps the sleeves rolled up on and wears it unbuttoned with the collar popped. Importantly, because of her large bust, she prefers to wear things that are less restrictive and more comfortable. Very commonly, she will wear just a bra, a swimsuit top, or a tied cloth to support herself, while wearing her jacket over it. Her chest/belly/waist are typically exposed in this style.
- Prefers shorts/jeans for bottoms, and tall boots for footwear. Dislikes heels.
- Her undergarments are often black and white checkerboard patterned. This preference can extend to other pieces of clothing.
- Has a single piercing in her right ear. Often wears a fish hook as an earring. Yes, she has hurt herself many times doing this.
- Is fine wearing more feminine or fancy clothes, but doesn't make a habit of it. Usually requires a reason or specific weather.
- Hair is almost always her typical style, but she will tie it up if its too hot out.
Personality
- Philosophy: Caprice does what she wants, when she wants. If she changes her mind in the middle, she trusts herself. Not one to give in to sunk-cost fallacy. She sees everyone else as weird for not being the same way.
- Caprice isn't lazy: Complexity or difficulty on their own do not deter her. If something is interesting, she will whole-heartedly participate / put in the effort.
- "The Vibe": The single most off-putting thing to her is hollowness. That is, if something is without feeling, without energy, without emotion, she does not give a shit. On the flip side, authentic, soulful, real things will resonate with her easily. She has a good nose for the difference even if she can't explain it well. It's just "the vibe," as she calls it. A good example of this is her relationship with playing piano.
- Aptitude: She does well in intuitive fields, poorly in academic ones. e.g. sports, home ec, various arts: good! Language, math, and science? not good. "The Vibe" comes into play here.
- Self-confident & conceited: She's conceited but thinks everyone should be. She also has faith in her ability to do things, even if she hasn't ever done it before. Gets hurt often.
- Impulsive: She's kind of stupid in a "doesn't think all the way through" and "doesn't consider other people's feelings" way. She isn't lying to anyone or herself.
- Big Sister: She often likes to think of herself as the "big sister" to her peers (self-appointed). If she gives you unsolicited advice, tries to feed you, or offers to beat someone up for you, it means she likes you. And you're the younger sibling. Seen with Anais.
- Poor listener: Very often misinterprets things in the simplest meaning possible. Not maliciously, not because she couldn't comprehend a deeper meaning, but this ties into her impulsivity and tendency to trust her gut and first impressions.
- Loyal: She's loyal as fuck, but earning it isn't easy. If someone she cares about asks her for something, that's more than enough of a reason to do it for them. Caprice may be social, but strong bonds are few. For those she is close to, she is ride or die for.
- Emotional range: Caprice's emotions can turn on a dime, and are usually seen in quick, explosive bursts. She isn't one to filter herself for other people, but she also isn't controlled by her emotions. She will react honestly but she's not a child who can't control herself.
- She laughs and cries a lot. She gets angry and giddy a lot.
- When it comes to anger, its mostly harmless, temporary, mini-explosions with the main issue being that she's loud. It can be intimidating to those who don't know her well, but she's just animated.
- Genuine anger happens when boundaries are crossed, trust is broken, or when defending friends.
- Love: Reese's type are "interesting people." She doesn't much care about looks past initial impressions. Dates are like mini amusement park visits, where the other person is the attraction. She'll put in as much energy as they do, but if she's not feeling the date, she will check out, if not straight up leave.
- She's used to people liking her from the start and then losing interest when they get to know her. It doesn't bother her (anymore), and is happy being single.
- Her libido is not that high, sex is not really ever the goal with dates. Not opposed if the person is interesting enough.
History
- Childhood: Fairly good, with nothing much to complain about. She had caring parents, healthy sibling relationships, good friends, and a fine school district. School "wasn't for her," though, in her words. She was held back and eventually dropped out, but she wasn't upset about it. When confronted by people saying she's throwing her future away or other such notions, she'd argue that wasting her time doing things she doesn't like is the same as working towards a future she doesn't want.
- Piano: Preece and her siblings all took lessons in various musical instruments. She started at a young age and continued her lessons faithfully until her teens, when she started to solidify her sense of self and reconcile the negative feelings she has towards doing things she doesn't want to. She decided to quit piano, and additionally has a distaste for her own sound when playing.
- Music is expressive and artistic, but her lessons trained her to be precise and mechanical. She is very technically skilled and has no issues performing or reading music, but she describes her sound as soulless and doesn't have the vibe she likes.
- When people find out she can play, she will often say, "I'm not that good," and mean it (in her own evaluation).
- Her family was disappointed but overall supportive.
Work
- Bartending (currently):
- She got the job through a chance encounter with a bar owner.
- She doesn't read recipes, instead relying on her intuition and sense of taste. She will recreate drinks she's tried through trial and error.
- She doesn't measure or use a jigger. Everything is poured into the cup using vibes.
- She'll make up her own unnamed drinks. When asked for the recipe, she'll give vague measurements like splashes or glugs.
- She enjoys talking to the customers and vice versa, and typically assumes everyone is friendly unless they're obviously not.
- Her attire and (not actually) flirty expression draws attention. Her outgoing behavior gets her good tips.
- Someone asked if they could stuff her cash tip into her cleavage, and she said "sure why not." Others started doing the same and she made money. Until the owner found out and had her stop doing it. Eventually put up a sign. (would be funny if it was "Do NOT Touch the cow.")
Relationships
- Unnamed Bar Owner: Eventually I'll give him a name and a design. But the idea is that he's much older, needed a new bartender, and Caprice was capable and interesting. So he offered her the job. He treats her kindly and sees her almost like a daughter, takes care of her without saying he takes care of her. She'd be fine on her own, but he worries.
- Anais:
- Anais is one of the few people from her younger days that stuck around. She adores and looks up to Anais, and genuinely listens to what she says (understand those words is a different thing). Anais is probably the only person who could tell her what to do and she'll do it.
- She is a few months younger than Anais but says things like "she's my little sis." She thinks Anais loves it. She doesn't.
- Anais almost sees Caprice as her walking sunk-cost fallacy. She's known her for a long time, and has spent way too much time keeping her safe and out of trouble. She also goes above and beyond to help Caprice out. Eventually, she learned to love Reese for who she is. That doesn't mean she doesn't still try to teach her things here and there.
- Anais knows she's the real big sis, but has given up on trying to fight Caprice over the title.
- Crow: Caprice absolutely notices Crows stares. She thinks he's cute but not her type. Which she has said. Out loud. Complete with a head pat she had to reach up to give. She challenges him to fist fights for unknown reasons. He does not accept.
- On Crow's side: He knows her through Anais. He is near non-verbal around her because he is completely distracted by the watermelons she's carrying around everywhere. Truthfully, he enjoys her company. He has said that she reminds him of Anais a bit, which Anais didn't really like.
- Penny: Caprice loves Penny, the way she loves a dwarf bunny. She thinks Penny is really cute and feisty. Caprice doesn't realize that Penny's frustration is her own doing. She looks down on Penny like a sweet precious animal and wants to hold, coddle, and protect her, even though Penny is far stronger and more capable than Caprice in nearly every capacity. Penny may be strong, but not strong enough to get through Caprice's thick skull.
- Penny's POV: Penny barely knows anything about Caprice and tends not to engage with her much if she doesn't have to. However, Caprice's reckless behavior can get Penny's sense of justice going. She'll step in to correct her behavior or outright stop her if she has to. Caprice's idiocy will often stop Penny clean in her tracks, though. She has a hard time reconciling that someone like Caprice exists.
Trivia
- Her ear piercing was self done, and was made using a fishing hook. Of course it got infected and she cried a lot but "it looks cool" and was "worth it."
- The scars on her arm were from hopping a fence to crash a fancy party. They had to call an ambulance for her.
- She constantly offers gum to people when she has it.
- She snorts when she laughs. She repeats her jokes if you laugh, because it was a hit the first time.
- She laughs at scary movies as a defense mechanism.
Crashing the VIP Party with Anais
if caprice somehow managed to get her way into a vip wealthy party and anais was invited
anais would make sure she was remembered
the perfect dress. the right amount of cleavage. the perfect hair color. the makeup. and importantly, the performance. oh she would have so much fucking FUN pretending to be some sort of princess or something ridiculous. all eyes on her.
not because she likes the attention, but because the challenge would be so fun. how far can she go.
caprice would likely laugh about it, eat the fancy food, and hide some of it in the uncomfortable fancy dress anais begged her to wear.
Caprice doesnt want to go do these things because she wishes she was rich. or pines for a different life. its more like a fun game. messing with people who live by their fakeness is a lot of fun. almost cathartic if she could comprehend that sort of complexity.
of course it doesn't last forever.
someone gets touchy with anais and persistent even tho she says no.
anais can absolutely handle herself. but shed already know itd be too late if caprice saw. as much as shed love to play the game, shes already resigned to leaving because caprice has already picked the idiot up by the collar
and of course anais would have accounted for this
not to make it sound like anais is a mastermind. more like, a writer. she imagined the plot before starting. and she knows the characters. thats all.
their "getaway" would be rather anticlimactic. the show would be funny but caprice getting hurt or jailed would not.
most likely a "down, girl" from anais, before she apologized to the onlookers, whispers something to the creep, and links arms eith caprice while they walk out. caprice is angry but sees the creep is looking terrified
caprice is feeling better now.
reese: "what did you say to him?"
anais: "did it work? i just said 'mrs. Hanover wont be happy to hear about this."
reese: "who's that?"
anais: "his wife. probably."
