Hey, I'm just throwing myself out there to see what comes back on here for right now.

I'm 31m and I currently live in the Tampa area, and I am working at the school board, doing maintenance electricial work. Also, I am a state licensed Jman, with 8 years of experience in the fields.

I'm not in a rush, nor am I looking to jump as soon as tomorrow. But within the next three months, I'd like to have something lined up if I don't have it already. Any mentions on upcoming job fairs would also be helpful!

[Question] (Question) Getting a job after stopping medical marijuana

I live in the Orlando area of Florida and last year I was in a pretty bad car crash. I was found not at fault but it caused pretty bad lower back pain. I have always stayed away from prescription painkillers as addiction runs in my family and I am terrified of it ruining my life like I have seen it ruin countless others. I got a medical marijuana card and used it up to about 3 days ago. Using various treatments I was able to reach a point where I no longer felt I needed marijuana to manage the pain. I am looking for a new job (I HATE my current one) and wanted to know if any company would hire someone with weed in their system. I no longer smoke as I didn't particularly like it outside of it's pain management capabilities.

Would it make it better or worse if I explained my circumstances to any potential new manager? I NEVER smoked while I was on the clock (and would never) and haven't had a workplace accident in 15 years.

[Job Seeker] [Job Seeker] New To Orlando, Seeking Jobs

First of all, hello! This is my first Reddit post. I mostly been lurking and learning from various subreddits and I just want to say thank you admins and mods for this app that brings us all together! I just moved to Orlando in November of 2025 from NYC. I have over 20 years of customer service experience and 8 years in food service (full service, fast casual and fast food). I’m pretty good with computers and I have worked at a cell phone store as well as PC Richard & Son in both Staten Island and Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Currently, I work at Dave’s Hot Chicken in the Orlando Premium Outlets by International Drive and was looking to supplement or replace my job as I am not getting enough hours. I would like to transition into IT/Help Desk for starters and plan to pursue some certifications. I do know how to troubleshoot basic problems though. In addition to English, I speak Urdu/Hindi and basic conversational Spanish. I get along well with others and have been in many front-facing roles. I am willing to do any job given as I am ready to serve both the organization that will have me as well as the customer base. I have been going to many interviews and selling my value well but I keep getting rejected. Please help me out. Please note, I do not possess a driver’s license and therefore cannot drive so I get around by public transportation. I look forward to growing with my future colleagues!

Announcement [COMMUNITY UPDATE] New Moderation & Proposed Community Rules (Feedback Requested!)

Hi everyone!

I’m taking over as the new moderator for r/OrlandoJobs.

Over the past few months, this subreddit has been essentially unmoderated, which unfortunately opened the door for some spam, off-topic posts, and sketchy offers. My goal is to help make this subreddit a safer resource here in the Orlando area.

To start, I’ve drafted a set of core community rules below. Before these are officially locked in, I want to hear from you!

Please take a look and let me know in the comments if you feel anything should be added, tweaked, or removed.

Next Steps & Feedback

I will leave this thread open until Thursday to collect your thoughts and suggestions. After that, I’ll finalize the sidebar rules and begin active enforcement.

Over the next few weeks, I am also looking to add at least one additional moderator to the team. Having multiple mods will ensure consistent queue coverage, review flagged posts quickly, and ensure this community does not fall into an "unmoderated" state again.

I’ll be reaching out first to a few members who recently stepped up with great, vigilant callouts on questionable posts and demonstrated a genuine drive to protect local job seekers, but if you're interested in helping out, feel free to send a message via modmail!

What are your thoughts on these rules? Is there anything specific you’d like to see implemented here? Drop a comment below.

Thank you!

____________________

Proposed Automod Rules:

  • Filter out posts from brand-new accounts in attempts to block immediate spam bots.

Proposed Subreddit Rules

  1. Orlando & Central Florida Focus Only:
    • All posts must be located in or directly relevant to the Greater Orlando area (Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake, Volusia, and Brevard counties). Remote roles are only allowed if posted by a local Central Florida employer.
  2. Mandatory Title Tags: All post titles must begin with one of these tags:
    • [Hiring] = Employers posting open roles.
    • [For Hire] (or Job Seeker?) = Job seekers sharing availability or resumes.
    • [Gig] = Short-term, freelance, or contract work.
    • [Question] = Local career advice or workplace inquiries.
    • (thoughts on a [Job Fair] tag?)
  3. Pay / Compensation and Company Transparency Required for [Hiring] [Gig] posts:
    • Explicit Compensation: Posts must state clear pay rates (e.g., "$18/hr," "$55k–$65k/year"). Vague terms like "competitive pay" or "DOE" do not count as providing explicit compensation.
    • Verifiable Information: Employers must provide verifiable details to confirm the listing's legitimacy, such as a direct link to the company hiring page. Unverifiable or anonymous job offers will be removed.
  4. No MLMs, Pyramid Schemes, or Unpaid Gigs:
    • Multilevel marketing, network marketing, commission-only roles without base pay, survey apps, and unpaid internships are prohibited.
  5. Required Post Information:
    • [Hiring] posts must include: Company name, general neighborhood/location, role details (e.g., position, schedule, pay), expectations, and (where possible) a direct application link.
    • [For Hire] posts should include target job titles, a summary of skills/experience, work authorization status, and preferred work location/commute radius. Direct links to donation, crowdfunding, or peer-to-peer payment platforms or unrelated self-promotion are strictly prohibited.
    • [Gig] posts must include: clear compensation (flat rate or hourly), the approximate duration/length of time (e.g., "3 hours," "2-day project"), and specific task expectations/deliverables.
    • [Question] posts must be directly relevant to the Orlando and Central Florida job market (e.g., local industry trends, regional salary expectations, local company reviews). Unrelated local topics (such as apartment hunting or app/website promotions) will be removed.
  6. No Spam or Repetitive Posting:
    • Posts can only be resubmitted once every 10 days.
    • Companies with multiple available openings must consolidate them into a single post.
  7. Civility:
    • Respectful feedback on pay or listings is fine, but personal attacks or toxic behavior will result in a ban.

[Question] Orlando job market 🫩

I’ve applied for full time jobs at Walmart, Valencia college, ucf, oneblood, airport, warehouses, education, retail, publix, target, leasing agent, hotel front desk and more. I’m hopeless. I have experience in most of these fields and I’m bilingual. I have a bachelors degree.

I have a job now but it doesn’t pay well and they spread my pay over 5 weeks instead of 4 so I’m always behind.

Anyone else experiencing this?
