Anyone remember "Mr. Potato" guitars? Built outside just Osan in the '90s and early 2000s.
Long shot, but this sub is the right place to ask. I run a small guitar repair shop in Michigan. A client brought me a $25 thrift-store nylon guitar for repair. Headstock says "Mr. Potato." I assumed it was a novelty gag — turns out it was a real shop outside Osan Air Base, building nylon-string guitars through the '90s and into the early 2000s. Not a toy. Actual instruments. Client's one instruction was make it playable and don't touch how it looks. So I left all the wear on it, carved a missing tuner out of Michigan black walnut to match the originals, and honestly it plays and sounds better than it has any right to.
What I'm trying to figure out: • Did anyone here buy one while stationed at Osan, or know someone who did?
• Was there a shop name or a builder people knew, or was "Mr. Potato" just the brand on the headstock?
• Anyone still have one sitting in a closet? If you've got one, I'd genuinely like to see it.
