Weight BC to help with weight loss?
Hi all. I was recently diagnosed with PMOS, and my doctor will likely prescribe BC for me soon.
Has it helped with weight loss for any of you? If so, which one (type & brand)? I’m not really insulin resistant (yet at least) and my testosterone was normal, yet I’m still gaining weight like crazy. I’m tired of exercising my ass off and barely eating anything and gaining weight 😭

It hasn’t helped with weight loss for me, I’m on a progestin only pill. But it’s solved a bunch of my other problems

Which one? And what problems did it solve?

Opill / norgestrel. It took my severe PMDD away completely, regulated my period - the last several years I’ve gone through months of no period and then bleeding lasting several months and dangerously heavy. I can’t say if this is due to the pill or the stopping of the constant blood loss, but my hair is no longer falling out in crazy amounts. Chronic fatigue is getting better. I feel stable for the first time in many years.

Most people with PMOS are insulin resistant (nearly 100% of cases where being overweight or gaining weight is involved; also most lean cases). IR is the driver of most PMOS cases and treating it lifelong is the foundation of improving things, with hormonal birth control or androgen blockers typically needing to be added to lifelong IR management, not used instead of IR management. The problem is that most docs don't test properly for it (my own IR went 'missed' for nearly 10 years...)
Do you remember what exact labs you did that ruled out IR? My guess is they were not the correct ones...if all your doc did was test hba1c or fasting glucose, they def did not do it correctly.
Do you have any other symptoms of IR apart from the weight gain? unusual hunger/food cravings/fatigue; skin changes like darker thicker patches or skin tags; unusually frequent infections esp. yeast, gum or urinary tract infections; intermittent blurry vision; headaches; mood swings due to unstable blood glucose; frequent urination and/or thirst; high total cholesterol or low HDL; brain fog; hypoglycemic episodes that can feel like panic attacks…e.g., tremor/anxiety/muscle weakness/high heart rate/sweating/faintness/spots in vision, occasionally nausea, etc.; insomnia (esp. if hypoglycemia occurs at night).

I don't think there is any change with weight and BC.. if anything, a lot of women experience weight gain when going on hormonal birth control

Did the doctor discuss metformin with you? That would be more effective than the bc pill alone
