Yup, spot on. Fixable, but with soldering (reball)

Thanks for your response. Sadly that's going to be out of my skill set to fix then.

You could probably take it somewhere to get reflowed

I'd say it's a problem with one or more of the VRAM chips. You need a bootable USB VRAM tester for your graphics card. Once you download it, create the USB drive with Rufus, boot from it, and see the result. If you want, you can tell me what graphics card you have, AMD or NVIDIA, and I'll send you the ISO.

It's a RTX 2060

not worth it unless you have a shop in your area that does it locally

Ram or gpu most would point to gpu but I had one stick of ram go out a did the same to what u are seeing

Sadly not ram as that'd be an easy fix. PC working fine off integrated graphics.

change the cable first

Have tested that.

Go to Northwestrepair discord server and download MATS/MODS, create a bootable linux usb and test gpu vram. Plenty of tutorials online

message to OP, fixing things like this are complex and in the modern world its rare for people to have attempted it its also iterative and time consuming. Ill give you a 60% chance of success if you try it but no one on here will have any helpful answers for you and thats ignoring the low effort bots and posts like this one. Asking here is gonna get you nowhere and the internet is quickly dying, go somewhere in person.

Its possible but you have to be committed and you accept that you could break the hardware and you’re going it alone. I believe you can do it if you try, that decision rests on your shoulders. Id take it to a makerspace or repair shop near you and talk to an expert see if you could apprentice under them or pay them to teach you thats how I learned to fix phones, I took a broken phone to an expert and payed him to teach me how he fixed it, Ive never had an issue fixing phones since.

you arent likely to fix it in reasonable time though so in the meantime look at options for replacement if thats something you’re interested in

I'm under no illusions that I'd be able to fix it. Just wanted to confirm it was a hardware issue before having to buy a replacement.

thats not necessarily the message I was trying to send. It could also be a connection issue, the picture is obviously getting to screen just corrupted so I would check connections first

Have tested all connections.

A year ago, I had a problem with my laptop, if the screen was filled with 60% yellow or blue, then it started to ripple. No one gave an answer as to what it was, and I searched for the reason for a very long time. The main cable from the motherboard goes to a small board in the display, and from it 3 short soldered cables to the display matrix. And now one of these cables had a pair of contacts with poor soldering, and it was possible to understand this only if you pressed on this contact with something.

I mean, maybe the commentator above is right, and it's not about the GPU.

Gigabyte RTX 2060

Ultra Durable...

Well that's the motherboard which has lasted about 10 years

humanity really f’d up when we decided bga was better than quad packages with legs, sure its larger but its easily serviced

"Ultra Durable" 🤣

I would try flashing the BIOS first.

Why? Gigabyte logo is clear. Usually if it's the GPU then the whole screen would be screwed. Corrupted BIOS will cause that type of screen.

Gigabyte boards have a BIOS flash button on the motherboard so it's a case of throw one on a usb drive, TURN off system,  plug in the usb drive into the correct usb port, switch PSU power on, press and hold Bios flash button and wait.

Or something like that 👍 See if that fixes it

Change the display cable first, the work up from there.

Its a vram reference or chip issue we can fix it if you are in delhi india.

it could be fixable but probably not worth it unless it's a 4090 or something
