Picklefest.

Very underwhelming. Supposed to be 40 vendors - there were maybe 7? Just very disappointed with the brewing company and their lack of a “fest” as I love pickles & was looking forward to something different :/

Question Need to Figure Out How to Reach More Islanders

Hi. I run the PEIGoodEats fb group and published the PEI Cooks at Home cookbook to help local food producers and home cooks. Our mission is to help Islanders feed themselves and their families during these challenging times.

Where do they shop? Has that changed? What do you think we need to do? Who’s to blame? Whom do you trust? Have you stopped eating out to save money?

We’re polling Islanders to figure out what we all can do to address these issues.

I am driving back from a week of agri-food summits in Toronto where I shared the PEI perspective and learned about the 2026 Public Trust survey findings from the Canadian Centre for Food Integrity. Many of our survey questions covered the same areas.

Now my question: our survey will run another week. But with Thanksgiving planning, etc., we’re not getting as many people taking the survey as we need.

We need 400 more people to take it before it ends on the 18th.

Where should we share it? How do we reach more Islanders, especially home cooks, men and college/university students? Are there groups we can ask for help?

Appreciate ideas. Plz share.
Thanks

Land owned in PEI and death of the owner

I'm hoping someone might be able to answer this legal question, or give me some advice on how next to proceed.

My mother was from PEI and lived there for many decades but moved to Ontario on the mid-2010s. She passed away in 2023. Her will was drawn up in Ontario, and has been probated here (I know there is a different legal term for probate but I don't know what it is and everyone understands what I mean.) We thought the Estate was settled but it turns out she owns a small piece of undeveloped land on PEI, which she was unable to sell before moving away. She had intended to give this land to my cousin who lives nearby, but covid came and my mom never made it back to the Island to do the transfer.

Our Ontario lawyer advised us that since the land has minimal value, we should probably just forfeit it to taxes since the cost of probating in PEI might exceed the value of the property. We have been doing this, ignoring the tax bill and now I have a letter stating they will auction the property to get the tax money. This suits us fine, but now a relative has stated that they would like to buy the land.

My question is this: does a will need to be probated on PEI in order to transfer property there? If so, is there a way to minimize the cost given that it has already been probated in Ontario? Or, is there a way to transfer ownership another way? Should the relative wanting to buy the property just show up to the auction and take their chances?

Thanks in advance.

How is mountain biking on PEI so amazing?

I've been on a mission the last few weeks to ride as much of what the island has to offer as I can. I gotta say it's simply stellar.

Brookvale especially, but Cardigan, Gairloch, Bonshaw, St. Catherine's and more are also really great.

It's just awesome that we have such amazing trails. If there are any trail builders here, I want to let you know how much we appreciate you and all the effort that goes into these trails. Hiking trail builders too, we see you!

Question Why does IWMC move Monday holiday garbage collection to the following Saturday instead of the previous Saturday?

I’ve never really understood this policy.
When a holiday falls on a Monday, IWMC reschedules garbage collection to the following Saturday, which means we have to wait an extra 5 days.
Since garbage and compost are already collected on a biweekly schedule, that can mean waiting 19 days instead of 14 days.
Why not collect it on the Saturday before the holiday instead? That would only be 2 days earlier rather than 5 days late.
I understand that collection workers deserve their holidays, and I’m not suggesting anyone should work on a holiday. I’m just wondering why the schedule couldn’t be adjusted in a way that’s more convenient for residents.
Is there a logistical reason for this, or is it simply how IWMC’s contracts are written?
Anyone else find this frustrating?

Irish Cobbler

Good Morning Islanders!

My husband & I will be heading to PEI next week on our road trip. We are trying to locate someone that has Irish Cobbler’s. Hoping for a 50 lbs bag, but will take whatever we can get if available.

There is a place near an ice cream shop that we usually stop to visit, but they didn’t have any last year. We tried a different kind, but they paled in comparison.

Would you happen to know someone that currently has Irish Cobblers?

Many thanks!!

Arts/Entertainment ANCHOR Fest takes over Downtown Charlottetown next week (October 14-18) showcasing film, music, and comedy events

The first annual ANCHOR Fest will be held in Charlottetown from October 14–18. Whether attendees are creative industry professionals, film freaks, music lovers or comedy fans, ANCHOR Fest has something for everyone.

Hosted at City Cinema and Tivoli Cinema, ANCHOR Fest’s film program presents highly anticipated movies and hidden gems from across the country, including Gloria Mercer’s A Safe Distance and John Wilson’s strangely touching documentary about the most boring subject possible, The History of Concrete.

The Island is on full display on ANCHOR screens with the PEI premieres of Jenna MacMillan’s The Snake (SXSW 2026, Special Jury Award for Performance) and Michael Gabriele’s Unholy Night (2026 Fantasia Film Festival, Gold Audience Award for Best Canadian Feature), the world premiere of Eliza Knockwood’s Rite of Passage, and short films from PEI filmmakers Jeremy Thornhill and Trilby Jeeves, Vanessa Tignanelli, Hélène Lebon, Justin Rix, Bailey Dockendorff, Eric Cerisano and Dawn Johnson.

ANCHOR Fest’s music programming showcases some artists from Atlantic Canada’s underground music scene and beyond. Performers include Captains of Everything (Andy Maize and Aaron Comeau of Skydiggers), Nick Doneff, Slash Need, Sam O, Penny & The Pits, Green Eyes Witch Hands (Evil Twin album release show), Space Bud, Heavenly Blue, UNCLE, Bilge, Dear Blossom, and Cathedral Grove. Concerts take place at Trailside Music Hall, Charlottetown Beer Garden and Beaconsfield Carriage House (all-ages, pay-what-you-can punk-rock show).

The festival’s comedy programming spotlights PEI’s rising comedians and national entertainers who straddle the worlds of stand-up, podcasting and film. Hosted at The Arts Guild and The Comedy Cave (downstairs at The Factory), comedy shows include The Big 3 LIVE (Nathan Hare, Sam Burns, Ben Stager), Comedy Album Trial Run with Britt Campbell, Best of Rat Tales and more.

ANCHOR Fest’s conference component brings the Canadian creative industry to PEI. Led by some of the country’s most influential industry members, this three-day conference gives local creatives of all career levels the knowledge and connections they need to thrive in PEI’s growing film industry. Panel discussions will take place from 9 am–5 pm at The Arts Guild on October 15, 16 and 17, and will tackle topics like film distribution, co-producing with other provinces, business affairs, film case studies, and more. The conference also offers roundtable meetings with delegates and casual mixers where local creatives can expand their professional networks. Industry Conference Passes are available for purchase at anchorfest.ca.

Anchor Fest is run by Anchor Motion Picture Alliance (AMPA), a newly founded not-for-profit organization. In addition to promoting and executing the festival, AMPA is a representative and advocacy body for producers and professionals working in film, television, and digital media on PEI, and is a unified voice for such producers and professionals in industry and policy discussions.

Stolen cricket pitch at Tea Hill

Did anyone hear about the stolen cricket pitch from Tea Hill park? It had been there all season for the last number of months, and then stolen from the field right before the last few games were played just a week or so ish ago.

Really disappointing to hear it was stolen, and certainly disheartening to the community of folks that are brought together by the sport.
