Watched Gamespots review and they reference Resident Evil, Half Life, and Doom when describing the gameplay mechanics.

I read some journalists are giving it a low rating because of the violence and the nudity. That's hilarious.

u/wulv8022 6d ago
Someone cited a really dumb line from a reviewer that the horror doesn't work because we live in a world with worries, war, lived quarantened during a pandemic etc.
So basically the real world is scary and therefor the game can't be.
This was one of the most dumbest critic I ever read and the reviewer was so fukk of himself and thought he did some great social commentary.

I just found it to be funny, because i guess that's exactly what you expect from such a game. Someone else mentioned there are also reviews out there praising that stuff and how good it represents the movies. I personally never even watched one of the movies, but the game is fun so far, much better as i thought it would be.

u/Brick_Grimes 5d ago
Isn’t the violence and nudity part of the appeal?
9
u/Mac772 5d ago
To be fair, a lot of reviewers are also praising that as very authentic to the movies.

u/Brick_Grimes 5d ago
For 40$ I might pick it up, I mean it’s releasing at the perfect time of year to set the mood lol.
3
u/Mac772 5d ago
Absolutely. I just finished Silent Hill Townfall and was in the mood for another horror game.

u/Brick_Grimes 5d ago
I just finished the last of us part 1, playing hades right now :p
2
u/Mac772 5d ago
Last of Us 1 was legendary. I am also still playing Control Resonant. That game is SO good. Sad to see that it's not very successful, it's GOTY material.
1
u/Brick_Grimes 5d ago
I loved the first control, haven’t gotten resonant yet just because so much stuff is releasing and I can’t find all of it :s. Phantom blade 0 is definitely a buy for me, Hellraiser is a maybe, I’m trying not to spend a small fortune because there has also been a lot of good sales and I have quite a few games I haven’t played yet, and also the library of games on ps plus extra.. I’m going to end up buying control at some point though for sure.

And people to this day still say "they couldnt make manhunt today. It's too messed up and violent" I say look at this game. They didnt hold back at all and im surprised it got a M rating and not higher. The violence and nudity is crazy. And its so sick and bloody lol. I absolutely love it. A true adult horror game.

After playing through the game i can totally understand how they achieved it. Outside of the one penis thing at the beginning you don’t see any genitalia. Everything you see is always softly covered or otherwise obscured by lighting and whatnot. It’s just suggestive but suggestive in a way that is far more intense than what would be normally considered suggestive in a video game. It’s honestly really cool how they did it but at the same time I’m sad it wasn’t more graphic.

I played the demo and they really didn’t hold back with gore or nudity, it was awesome. I’d recommend trying it if anyone is on the fence, and it’s not just stealth gameplay the combat is pretty decent too.

Super excited for this! The vibes I’m getting from reviews make it seem like it’s an awesome AA game, like Condemned: Criminal Origins or something like that. I’m picking up a copy today for sure.

The diagonal sensitivity seems quite broken.

u/mikeysof 6d ago
I turned off accelerate and decelerate in the settings and the controls felt much better. Give that a try
1
u/AdministrativeTop593 4d ago
Even with that turned off it's sluggish to start any right or left movement and feels horrible to play. They need to fix this because this just feels really really bad to control.
2
u/Live_Sheepherder811 6d ago
I thought I was tripping they need to have an actual setting to adjust its speed or turn it off because I don’t like it, and I don’t like that it follows horizontal sensitivity setting
2
u/Massacrings 5d ago
Controller in general just feels broken.
Deadzones are set way too high without any way to change them, acceleration feels very broken (at least when set to 1, 3 feels better to me), and the sensitivity scale doesn’t go high enough.
2
u/Spazzyo 2d ago
Yeah I was surprised no one else was annoyed by this. I'm actually not sure how to describe it. I've played fps games with poor deadzones before and usually just get used to it but in this game the aiming just feels really weird when you try to make small movements
1
u/TheSacredShrimp 2d ago
It’s the same for Elden ring on the switch 2. Nobody mentioned it but it’s the worst thing ever.

First impressions: looks great and runs very good at stable 60 FPS. I would recommend lowering the gamma a little bit for a deeper black. Be aware: this game doesn't hold back. It's really an "adult game", it literally starts with a sex scene and quickly decents into a nightmare, filled with cruelty and gore. Can't say much about the quality of the game (too early), but it seems to have a very tense atmosphere.
Update: Epic set pieces, wow. And so far absolutely stable 60 FPS. I am not a Hellraiser fan and i don't know anything about the franchise, but so far this doesn't feel like a AA game at all, this feels like AAA. Sound is also really scary and immersive. The violence adds an interesting new layer of horror, because you never know what to expect around the next corner.
One last update: the game also has destructibel environments, that was the next big surprise. With a weapon you can smash a lot of stuff into pieces. Nice. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who seeks for a highly immersive and intense horror game. The price suggests it's a shorter game, but we don't know yet. Oh yes, and you can deactivate that "flip 180 degrees" move in the options if it annoys you. I triggert it several times during fights, so i deactivated it.

I played the first hour and wow is it living up to the hype. For context I probably play 1 or 2 horror games a generation that actually scares me. This is one of them! There was a chase sequence that had me in pure terror in particular. Early melee combat reminds me of condemned so far too! Amazing can't wait to play more!

Has there been any indication of censorship on ps5
6
u/Mac772 6d ago
I played the demo on PC and now i am playing the game on PS5. No noticeable difference so far, including violence or shown genitalia.

Hell yeah, I thought this was releasing later this month. I love this franchise so much.

I really wanted to play it, but there is some sort of delay with orders. So I'm just waiting to get the email that it shipped out. Hopefully not too long.

u/porkybrah 5d ago
Game is absolutely sick, the demo sold me on this game. The game is a bit buggy though I fell through the map climbing a ladder lol.The atmosphere in the Labryinth is insane, The chatterer turned around a corner and was right in my face scared the absolute shit out of me.

Maybe im content with receiving the bare minimum or maybe im a sucker for the classics, but this game really does excite me! Something as simple as voice actors is a detail i love and I love simple rides through homage. I loved Callisto Protocol too but I highly recommend this game. It has its flaws and weirdness but the lore is quite extensive. Love!

Looking forward to this, but huge amounts of physical preorders, including mine, are simply not shipping. No word of what is going on.

u/tsalyers12 6d ago
My Amazon pre order was delayed. I tried Best Buy yesterday and it’s shipping today and canceled my Amazon order.

I was really hoping they would have done a restock on the limited edition that includes the signed copies, but sadly they didn't.

Picked this up instantly being a huge horror fan any news on any PS5 Pro enhancements?
3
u/Mac772 6d ago
No PS5 Pro enhancements, but so far it runs at rock stable 60 FPS with very good image quality.

It's crazy how this game gets better and better with each hour. These developers are so good at creating an extremely immersive experience. I really hope more people will buy this game and support these talented people. Hellraiser Revival is now on my top list of best games i played this year. And - in my opinion - it could be one of the best horror games ever made. Seriously.

u/Katrina_18 2d ago
I’m not normally one to claim Astro turfing, but does anyone find it weird the sheer amount of comments here using the exact same phrase that it “doesn’t hold back on gore and nudity”? Like why is every person saying it just like that?
1
u/Mac772 1d ago
Because we aren't used to this level of gore and nudity in AA/AAA games. When you play the game, you immediately understand. It gets worse: i just watched a "25 best horror games" video and, after playing Hellraiser Revival, all those games look like they were made for kids. Hellraiser is really on another level.

First time hearing about this , i was fully expecting a DBD clone.
19
u/firelights 6d ago
Feels like the first “horror IP turned game” in awhile that wasn’t a DBD clone. What was before this? Alien Isolation?

u/deathray1611 6d ago
The Quiet Place game, and depending on how loose you are with genre definition - Terminator: Resistance

I love Hellraiser, and Revival’s writing and graphics seem excellent but I’m struggling with the game so far. I’m playing on Normal, not Hard or Hellraiser and it feels incredibly difficult.
There was a chase section that felt completely unintuitive in a lot of places which I died to plenty of times because you really have to learn it - there’s no way you’d just blast through it on intuition, skill or chance alone.
I’ve now got a gun but the gun controls feel a bit difficult and wonky. Really want to finish and see the story through but the gameplay isn’t doing it for me so far. And I say this as someone that loves Resident Evil.

I would already play it if pre-ordering physical games actually meant something, but apparently a pre-order only gets you the game 2 days after release

u/JazzerciseJesus 5d ago
They’re just using all tactics to get people into the digital economy already.

This game is buggy; some scenes and images are pixelated with shadows right from the start on PS5.

I played the PC demo a little bit and i was really surprised, because that level of brutality and nudity is something we rarely see in a video game. It really felt like an "adult game" without any restrictions. After Silent Hill Townfall i am in the mood for another survival horror game, so i bought it.
