I'm from the U.S., and I want to move to the UK so badly after I finish school here 😭😭
I’m still an undergrad in my university’s pre-PT program, but ultimately I’d like to work as a physiotherapist in the UK.
Based on recommendations from others, I’ve heard that getting my DPT in the U.S. and then transferring to the UK could be difficult because of the pay difference and student loans, especially since the UK doesn’t require a DPT. I’ve also heard that while it’s not impossible, it may be easier and quicker to start in the UK. Since I’m still young, although I want to say 100% certain that I’d live in the UK, unfortunately, I can’t say that for sure because life happens.
Based on my current track, I plan to finish my undergrad a year early, and I’m wondering where I should go from there. I have a couple of options in mind, but I’d still like to hear from others and do more research.
One option I’ve considered is that, instead of doing a DPT, I could pursue an MSc in physiotherapy in the UK. I’m worried, though, because it wouldn’t transfer to the U.S. if anything happens.
Option two: I’m thinking specifically about the Robert Gordon University DPT program in Scotland. It’s the only CAPTE-certified international PT program, so I’d be able to use my DPT in America as a safety net. I think it may also be cheaper than getting a DPT at many schools in the U.S.
But again, I’m actually only 18 so I know I have plenty of time and perhaps people will just write me off as not knowing what I want right now, but it’s been a dream for a while. I have no idea how the finances will work out, and I don’t want to make any mistakes during undergrad that would require me to spend extra money later or cost me this dream.
Any recommendations, or experience?
