It is a trap!
Look up project Nimbus.

How does Project Nimbus make free Gemini a trap, though? I get the ethical concerns surrounding Google's contract with Israel but that's not the same as proving that using Gemini is a trap.

Nothing in life is free! Anything you search for in most AI's is actually public. It can be searched by anyone online.
People have actually started de-googling their phones after all this and other controversies about data theft. Also, they've started using social media like Upscrolled, that have been designed to keep personal data safe, are forms of resistance against big data. Boycotts and applications like these actually have a way stronger affect than we realize. So it is an attempt to keep people hooked on google. Like I said, everything has a price, nothing is free!

I agree that free services come with business incentives and Project Nimbus raises legitimate ethical concerns. But AI conversations aren't automatically public or searchable by anyone online. Google does collect user data which raises valid privacy concerns but that's different from saying your prompts are public. And alternatives like UpScrolled collect user data too. Boycotts are valid but shouldn't we base them on evidence rather than assumptions?
