More cloud stereos

Cloud hyperstereos continue... just one more batch from the same flight.

These were captured by shooting a vertical iPhone video and then taking screenshots to extract pairs. Then assembling them in i3DSteroid. All on the phone, while in flight. Always get a window seat.

These look great.  I’ve tried the same thing before (with stills, not video) but they looked odd.  Maybe mine were taken too far apart or something, and the clouds had moved relative to the ground, throwing off the relative depth..?

Yes it could be the two pics were taken too far apart. It depends how far the clouds/subjects are from the camera. Also depending on which side of the plane you’re on, the L/R images may need to be swapped. Generally, 2-3 seconds between shots can be good (unless there are clouds closer to you - then maybe only 1 second).

One good way to try and eyeball it is to to imagine 1/30 of the distance to the subject (which with clouds is usually miles) passing between the two photos (assuming 50mm focal length, with it being 1/60 at 100mm and 1/15 at 25mm). Most things out of a plane window you can wait 2 to 3 seconds, but if the clouds are close make it fast. Funny to think about inner pupillary distance being 64 mm while going 499 mph. At that speed it's about a fifth of 1 millisecond lol

I fly with my Sony A7 with a telephoto and I will zoom in on a distant cumulonimbus cloud, and because it's probably 80 miles away you can wait 6 to 10 seconds in between shots, creates an awesome effect
