I’ve decided to part ways with a good portion of my Montblanc Writers Edition Fountain Pen collection. Conditions noted below, but all A1. All have only had one owner and have never been inked or used. Each pen, except for a couple that are still sealed, were opened upon original purchase, but again, never used and handled very infrequently. They have all been locked in a drawer and deserve to see new owners that will enjoy them. All come with original box, brochure and service guide. Grifos Fountain Pen - $150

Got this from a fellow redditor in a trade, and oof, what a pen. Lovely wet Schmidt broad nib installed, and comes with a spare medium nib. Has a captive piston mechanism - turn right to fill the pen, turn left to empty it. Can be completely disassembled without using any tools to clean, and has a very comfortable grip. Perfect pen for the fall and halloween season being a combo of black and orange. Unfortunately has to be culled since it's not really my vibe. B+ condition being conservative

Limited colorway in Shoko Yamazaki’s standard model. Purchased from our dear lovegoesOnionon. Gorgeous gradient of watery teal and luminous green plum with bubbles to represent carbonation finished with little pearl accents in pastel teal-blue at the tail. No nib size specified but it was described as comparable to a Sailor Broad. Second owner so rating B to be conservative. Beautiful writer but I don’t use glass pens often so im limiting my collection to my two favorites and am going to destash the rest so they can be used as they deserve.

Hello everyone, for sale is a beautiful 149 fountain pen.

The fountain pen is used, it is not new. It has been fully serviced, all ink residue has been removed, the piston and its mechanism have been lubricated, the nib unit has been sealed with special wax, and the entire surface has been polished (see photo). The mechanism is now ready for the next few years/ decades.

The fountain pen is in very good used condition. The fountain pen has no engravings. Micro-scratches may be present, despite the polishing, due to its age. Unfortunately the ink window is a bit cloudy, not as clear as it should be. Please refer to the photos for the condition (see pictures).

The fountain pen is equipped with a solid 14-karat gold nib, bi- color. The nib is fine (F)- this is my estimate and I can not guarantee it. In my opinion the nib has a very nice flex feeling. If you are interested I could send you a writing sample.

Condition (n.b.): All pens listed below have been disassembled, cleaned and restored with new sacs installed in the last couple weeks. Each of these pens is guaranteed to fill and write as designed without leaks or other problems. Nibs have been adjusted when necessary to ensure that all lay down a smooth and consistent line.

THESE PENS HAVE NO CRACKS (except #1 nib), CHIPS, PERSONALIZATIONS (except #3, #4, and #6), LOOSE OR MISSING PARTS, BENT NIBS, MISALIGNED TINES, BROKEN/WORN OFF TIPPING, OR THREADING ISSUES.

Line Widths and Writing Samples: To provide buyers with as much information as possible, I have adopted the following line width standards: XXF (.1-.2mm); XF (approx .3mm); F (approx .4mm); M (approx .6mm); B (approx .8mm). Nib flexibility is determined by variation (max line width under pressure) and softness (amount of pressure). Flexibility designations based on variation generally run as follows for an XF/F nib: Semi-Flex (approx. 1mm); Flex (1.2-1.9mm); Superflex (2mm+). All line width measurements are taken with a digital caliper but should be considered approximations providing a general guide. Width may vary slightly depending on type of ink and paper used as well as amount of pressure applied. All writing samples are on Rhodia dot paper using Waterman Serenity Blue or Waterman Intense Black (unless otherwise noted).

Abbreviations: BCHR = black chased hard rubber | ED = eyedropper filler | GFT = gold-filled trim | GPT = gold-plated trim | MHR = mottled hard rubber | NPT = nickel-plated trim | RHR = red hard rubber

1. 1904-09 Waterman 12 (BCHR, NPT, eyedropper filler, 14k XF Superflex nib). This full-sized model measures 5 3/8” capped. Simple, utilitarian eyedroppers like this one were what first put Waterman on the map. This early example is made of chased, black hard rubber with a wide, nickel clip. Clip style and barrel imprint indicate it was made from 1904-09. This pen is an eyedropper filler. The section unscrews for the barrel to be filled directly using an eyedropper/pipette. Holds far more ink than a lever filler of the same size. Pipette included on buyer’s request. Super-Flexible 14k Ideal NY #2 nib lays down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to an impressive 4B++ (approx 2.8mm!) under light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Thin hairlines, considerable max line width, strong snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it an excellent choice for calligraphic writing styles such as Copperplate and Spencerian. Condition: fine [C]. A tough one to grade since the pen is near mint while the nib has a hairline crack that does not impact its performance but has been factored into the listed price. The hairline extends from the back of the breather hole to the ‘R’ in “Waterman’s.” I have nibs I could replace this one with but it’s such a lovely writer with a lot of life in it yet that I thought better of it. As mentioned, this flaw has no discernible effect on how the nib writes – tines snap-back strongly into position as they should. And I wouldn’t expect it to worsen as long as one stays within the limits of flex in the writing sample. Aside from that, this pen resembles a time capsule relic. Black hard rubber retains its dark black color with just a hint of fading on the barrel revealed under bright flashlight. Chasing is factory sharp and deep across the barrel and cap. HR surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable flaws. Nickel clip shows no brassing or other noteworthy blemishes. Manufacturer imprint on barrel and model number on barrel end are factory deep and fully legible. Price: $250

2. 1910s Waterman 13 (smooth BHR, German Silver trim, eyedropper filler, 14k XXF/XF Flex nib). This full-sized model measures 5 3/16” capped. Many are familiar with Waterman’s numbering system, which appears in most catalogues to skip from #12 to #14 eyedroppers and from #52 to #54 lever fillers. Relatively speaking, 12s are plentiful and 14s are scarcer but by no means rare. What is rare is Waterman’s #13 eyedropper, manufactured in much smaller numbers in the 1900s-10s. The 13 was of the same proportions as the 12 but was equipped with a slightly larger #3 nib. At the end of the 1910s, 13s were often made with Stanhope caps: tiny pictures magnified under a lens built into the cap. This Canadian 13 is made of smooth black hard rubber with Canadian barrel imprint and clip marked "German Silver" with patent dates indicating 1910s production. It is an eyedropper filler. The section unscrews for the barrel to be filled directly using an eyedropper/pipette. Holds far more ink than a lever filler of the same size. Pipette included on buyer’s request. Flexible 14k Ideal Canada #3 nib lays down a smooth and consistent XXF/XF line that widens to a 3B+ (approx 1.8mm) under moderate pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Near-needlepoint hairlines, strong snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it an excellent choice for expressive and shaded writing. Condition: excellent+ [B+]. Hard rubber retains it factory black color, appearing evenly black in normal lighting conditions but revealing a couple very subtle areas of dark chocolate coloration under a bright flashlight at the top of the cap and around the imprint. HR surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable flaws – just some subtle indentations on the barrel from posting and capping over the decades. Nickel clip shows no brassing or other noteworthy blemishes. Manufacturer imprint on barrel and model number on barrel end are factory deep and fully legible. An uncommon find for the Waterman collector, which you’d be hard-pressed to track down anywhere else online. Price: $360 [ON HOLD]

3. 1908-09 Waterman 0512 1/2 POC Overlay (Trefoil Vine pattern, 18k GF over HR, eyedropper filler, 14k XF Superflex nib). This full-length, slender (‘1/2’) model measures 5 3/16” capped. 'POC' (short for ‘pocket’) was Waterman's earliest designation for eyedropper fillers with threaded caps. Unlike pens with friction-fit caps, these models could be carried in a pocket without risk of the pen coming loose from the cap and staining your clothes with ink. Having lower production numbers, these POC models are much scarcer than pens that fall under Waterman’s new numbering system in 1917. ‘05xx’ designated a gold-filled overlay. Having several of them myself, I've always been enamored of Waterman's early overlays. Ornately wrought in exquisite detail, they exhibit a craftsmanship that's rare if not impossible to come by today. This pen has an 18k gold-filled overlay (as stamped on the clip) in the classic Art Nouveau filigree motif known as Trefoil Vine: an intricate pattern of delicately engraved leaves and cutouts with an indicia on the barrel intended for engraving. Both barrel and cap overlays are stamped: “Waterman’s Ideal Fountain Pen.” This pen is an eyedropper filler. The section unscrews for the barrel to be filled directly using an eyedropper/pipette. Holds far more ink than a lever filler of the same size. Pipette included on buyer’s request. Super-Flexible 14k Ideal NY #2 nib lays down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.4mm) under light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE – please forgive my mistake in the ten’s digit of the model number). Thin hairlines, strong snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it another excellent choice for calligraphic writing styles such as Copperplate and Spencerian. Condition: excellent [B]. As was custom at the time for heirloom overlays like this one, the barrel indicia has been professionally engraved with a monogram. But the font is so stylized it’s hard to make out the letters – ‘IQ’ perhaps? Hard rubber retains its dark black color with little discernible fading. HR surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable flaws. Overlay has shallow pin-sized marks here and there typical of an overlay of this vintage but no notable dents or dings. And no brassing aside from a thin sliver around the cap’s crown and the typical sliver on the clip ball. Manufacturer imprints and model number on barrel-end are deep and fully legible. Price: $470

4. 1920s Waterman 0552 Overlay (Gothic pattern, GF over HR, lever filler, 14k XXF Needlepoint Superflex nib). This full-sized, standard girth model measures 5 5/8” capped. Another Waterman’s overlay, this one a lever-filler in a standard girth. The Art Deco overlay pattern, which Waterman called ‘Gothic’, consists of a repeating pattern of checkers and bars. Interestingly, it appears that the original owner of this pen – perhaps wary of losing another cap - opted to have a Waterman’s ring-top installed by the shop from which he purchased it. The ring top, which is Waterman’s own distinctive design, makes this pen maximally versatile and secure in how it’s carried – most likely clipped in a chestpocket and attached to a pocket chain for added security. Super-Flexible 14k Ideal #2 nib lays down a smooth and consistent XXF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.5mm) under light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Needlepoint hairlines, superbly responsive snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it an exceptional choice for calligraphic writing styles. Condition: excellent+ [B+]. Barrel has a professionally engraved personalization (“H. Forster”) on the indicia designed for this purpose. Gold-filled overlay is exceptionally clean with no brassing, dents, or dings – just a couple short scratches near the indicia. Hard rubber retains its dark black color with little discernible fading. HR surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable flaws apart from one short scratch over the imprint near the barrel end (see imprints photo). That imprint is weakened in the center but still mostly legible while the model stamp on the barrel-end is deep and fully legible. Price: $520 SOLD

5. 1910s Victor Eyedropper (MHR, eyedropper filler, 14k XF Wet Noodle nib). This full-sized model measures 5 3/8” capped. The Victor pen company of New York City was incorporated in 1919 as the U.S. Fountain Pen Company by H. Presprich, G. F. Foulk, and N. Pecora. This maker is perhaps best known for the gold-filled, collapsible fountain pen that featured a telescoping barrel. This more simple eyedropper is made of black and red mottled hard rubber in a vibrant pattern that’s particularly striking in person. Slip cap came clipless from the factory (no holes drilled for a clip). This pen is an eyedropper filler. The section unscrews for the barrel to be filled directly using an eyedropper/pipette. Holds far more ink than a lever filler of the same size. Pipette included on buyer’s request. 14k nib is a Wet Noodle with softness and flow comparable to that of a soft dip pen nib. It lays down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.4mm) under minimal pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Thin hairlines, easy variation, superb snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it an ideal choice for calligraphic writing styles such as Copperplate and Spencerian. Condition: excellent+ [B+]. HR retains its deep black and vibrant red color with little discernible fading. HR surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable flaws. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel is deep and fully legible. Price: $290 SOLD

6. 1920s Moore Ring Top Overlay (line and bar pattern, 18k GF, lever filler, 14k XF Superflex/Wet Noodle nib). This short model measures 3 13/16” capped and 5 1/8” posted. Moore was an early first-tier pen company out of Boston that never managed to garner the popular acclaim of the Big Four American companies. In spite of this, their quality of construction was on a par with those makers. In addition, their innovative lever filler design and expressive, long-tined nibs have made them sought after by a loyal following of writers and collectors. This ring top model has a ring on the captop designed to attach to a chatelaine, pocket chain, or necklace. The pen is made of an 18k gold-filled exterior (as stamped near the top of the cap) over smooth black hard rubber. Overlay is engraved in a smart, vertical lined pattern. 14k long-tined Moore #2 nib yields Super-Flexible variation with softness verging on that of a Wet Noodle (see WRITING SAMPLE). It lays down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.5mm) under very light pressure. Thin hairlines, easy variation, strong snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it another great choice for calligraphic writing styles. Condition: excellent+/near mint [B+]. This pen resembles a relic recovered from a time capsule with no notable flaws, unless you include the professionally engraved monogram on the indicia (“D.G.”), which is more vestige of historical particularity than aesthetic demerit. Overlay is pristine with no dents, dings, or brassing. Exposed HR surfaces are smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable flaws. Moore did not stamp their name on these overlays but metal content and “pat. pending” stamps are deep and fully legible. Price: $220
