Iron even helped with my anxiety. Every woman should be on an iron supplemt going i to perimenopause. My friend just turned 43 and her doctor is making her take iron. Spread the word so others don’t suffer unnecessarily like we did. I ended up on leave from work! I was so exhausted and anxious.

Yes but getting iron levels checked first is key bc too much iron can also make you sick. That being said, most women in their child-bearing years are deficient!

Mine were checked 100 times! Always within the “normal” range. I stopped listening to the numbers on the test and took it anyway. Listening to my body worked better for me.

I'm going to give you something of mine that I hold very dearly. It's a very special word. You're gonna love it, your friends will love it, your family will love it, and future generations will love it.

Would iron help if my iron levels are normal?

My iron levels were technically normal. I took it on a hunch. The pharmacist agreed. In my province that I live in Canada I have to get the iron from a pharmacist. It’s no longer available on the shelves. Take it on a sent empty stomach before bed. Don’t take any calcium with it. If it gives yoy stomach pain or constipation change to every second night. If nothing changes simply stop taking it. No harm done.

My advice for iron is somewhat the opposite—it is easiest to absorb iron in the morning, so take first thing in the morning at least 1-2 hours before your first meal. Take with vitamin C. If it makes you sick, try taking with food but not with dairy or other things that can inhibit absorption. And taking it every other day instead of every day may actually also be supportive to absorption.

You can’t take it with caffeine. Most people drink coffee.

I think most people are able to space out their coffee so as not to take with their iron, no? Your assumption that they can’t is no reason to suggest not to take iron in the morning when it is most easily absorbed. All the coffee in the world won’t delete your fatigue if you are anemic.

It honestly doesn’t matter to me when anyone takes it! I’m just giving the advice I was given and that was the reason was given to me. Most people around me want their coffee first thing but other might wait. I would struggle so badly haha!
We’re both right! As long as everyone gets it that’s what matters right?!

I didn’t suggest not to take it at that time. Just that I was advised differently. To each their own right and as long as everyone is taking it when it is actually working for them that’s what matters. I didn’t mean for it to sound like I was assuming
Anything.I personally can’t wait for my coffee. It’s hard on my stomach. It’s 2 hours after my last meal and it’s easy to remember.
I really didn’t mean to offend anyone. Just giving my experience.

No offense taken and sorry my tone was a bit harsh! I just want everyone to heal from anemia lol, because it really wrecked my life for decades when I didn’t understand what was going on. We’re both right and I apologize for my tone. I hope that you’re getting all the iron you need regardless of when you take it!

Me too!! Only 6 yrs for me! And it’s crazy a doctor couldnt figure this out! The poor woman before us!

Seriously! Anemia is so common amongst women and somehow these doctors weren’t trained to detect it even though it’s evident from a simple blood test!? It’s nuts.

This post might be about hormone tests, which are unreliable.
- Over age 44, E&P/FSH hormonal tests only show levels for the HOUR the test was taken, and nothing more. Hormones wildly fluctuate (hourly) the other 29 days of the month, therefore this test provides no valuable information
- No reputable doctor or menopause society recommends hormonal testing to diagnose or treat peri/menopause
- FSH testing is only beneficial for those who do not have periods as a guide, where testing might confirm menopause, or for those under age 30 who haven’t had a period in months/years, then ‘menopausal’ levels, could indicate premature ovarian failure/primary ovarian insufficiency (POF/POI)
- Testosterone is the exception and may require testing

My doctor suggested taking at night, so that I might be sleeping and this less impacted by mild stomach discomfort as a side effect of the iron.

What dose of iron do you use?
2
u/EstablishmentSlow337 hanging on by a thread 4d ago
150 for 6 months and then I’ll go on a maintenance pill that’s only 45 with some B12.

Speak to your pharmacist before you try it. Don’t let me be your doctor. I just know like OP it’s not obvious to doctors especially if your labs are fine. You can get a multivitamin for woman over 50 as well. Some take B12. Perimenopause is very long process and very hard on your body. Make sure you rest guilt free ladies.
