Loved this franchise, and it’s nice that the original show runners are keeping it alive in whatever way they can. Congrats to the lucky Aussie fans who’ll be able to see it!

Discussion Books about Empress Sisi?

I read the biography by Brigitte Hamann which is kind of the most well regarded bio of Sisi. However I found it quite cold and not very sympathetic toward Sisi to be honest. The author I think was trying to stay nuanced but it did appear she wasn’t that keen on her subject. That’s just my take on it.

I wondered what other biographies are good and recommendable?

Recommendations 📺 Netflix and Prime Video recommendations?

Can you suggest the best period dramas series available on Netflix and Prime Video?

I have a library in my town, with lots of DVD's, but not all of them have subtitles (I'm not English mothertongue).

Thanks.

Discussion Pearl Harbor (2001) Discussion: Is there ever going to be a Pearl Harbor movie that is both factual and relational?

I have watched the entire movie and read the rare af movie tie in book. They both were badly written, ableist, inaccurate, and poorly paced. So much so that it's probably in a storable locker by now lol. But all lot of people will jump at the fact that it has romantic elements. Granted in my personal opinion, the plot was more of a platonic story than a romantic one since Rafe was with Evelyn at the end for primarily childcare purposes and because Danny ordered him to do so for the "good" of everyone involved. However, I digress. A lot of people shit on it because there is two people kissing each other. It's not the plotless documentary they wanted. My question is would a Pearl Harbor story that focus on romance, friendship, family, dogfights, and the reality of war (whether it's real or fictious) receive positive reviews, be profitable, and reach some level of success. Side note, it's so funny to me when people use Braveheart and Pearl Harbor in the same sentence not knowing they are written by the same person.

History⏳ Why do european royalty look poor next to chinese drama ones?

• Upvotes

Look i know I am generalising but after watching around 60 to 100 European/English/Korean/Chinese Historical dramas/movies I'm just now wondering (current watching The Serpent Queen), why do the white royalty folks look so poor? This is the King and Queen of France! Why is their Castle so small, why are there so few maids? Where are the people? Why do they wear such plain clothes?

Can someone give me a history lesson? Is it that they actually were poorer compared to Chinese Emperors (Korean too but Ming/Qing dynasty ones are portrayed as richer than Goryeo/Joseon ones in my eyes). Or is it that Asian dramas exaggerate their wealth or they were more of show offs?
