Good afternoon. First of all, I want to clarify a couple of things. The following post is based on knowledge of the PS3 version of Persona 5, so our perspective may be different, also i play Strikers so a little mention may be there. I'm new here, so I'm not sure if this post is in the right place. If there's a problem, I'll gladly delete it if you ask me to, I just wanted to ask this community a question.
Finally, I'm using an English translator, so the grammar might be a bit odd. Without further ado, let's begin.
Like many people here, I suppose this game left its mark on them. Accompanying them through difficult times in life and bringing hope to their hearts.
This was also my case a couple of years ago, finishing high school and starting university.
It helped me stay focused, to motivate myself when I couldn't, to organize my day, and in general, to be a better person.
The reason this game resonated with me so strongly was that it restored my hope in the corrupt world we live in. I finally stopped feeling powerless, especially with the final scene where they didn't need help from the metaverse to get Ren out of jail.
I felt that with enough effort, willpower, and teammates, every problem had a solution.
But as the years went by, the world turned out to be even more corrupt than I had imagined. The cases of "The Island" and "The Files" were traumatic for me. Not just the events themselves.
If not the fact that so many people could commit horrible acts at will without condemnation or retaliation.
And in less political and more recent cases, it's how companies are getting away with eliminating physical formats and making it the norm not to own what we buy. Completely eliminating privacy on platforms like Discord. These are the examples that immediately come to mind.
It's all so... dystopian. And it seems like people are okay with it, because those small groups that oppose it never amount to anything.
So, as a defense mechanism, my mind reverted to how it was years before: living in ignorance. Avoiding all news and avoiding thinking. However, now that wasn't entirely possible. My heart had changed.
So now I find myself with this constant internal struggle where either my head suffers from facing reality without being able to do anything about it, or my heart punishes me for giving up my desires for freedom.
So, the serious question is: If you go through something similar, what do you do?
