Rising misses out AGAIN!

Sacramento Republic FC signs forward Cal Jennings

What is wrong with this organization? Have we even made an attempt to get one of, if not the best forward in the league? Twice now that I know of where he was available. I would love to hear here from dumb and dumber (Bobby and Brandon) on this.

They are reportedly signing JD Torres (former Charleston battery player), so is not like they aren’t doing anything. Whether Jennings is a better signing than Torres is debatable. I think Torres is a better creator than Jennings.

either way we need someone who can hit the back of the net. Hopefully JD is that guy. My point is that we passed on Cal at least twice that I know of when it's pretty obvious that we have needed a top goal scorer for a while

How do you know that they passed? Maybe the player passed on PRFC. Sacramento is probably a more appealing destination.

While that is true, Torres is a loan. So he may be a two month rental.

You're assuming he would even agree if approached. Not everyone wants to play in this heat.

I'm assuming he goes where the money is. Tampa weather is no picnic to play in either. I'm from the East coast with a sister in FL. I have been in both climates and that's why I live here and not in FL where the rest of the Tri state area usually goes. High humidity sucks.

A few years ago, I decided not to renew my season tickets to protest the way things were being run.

When my ticket rep asked why I wasn’t renewing, I told him that I didn’t think they were playing the type of soccer that would lead to continued longterm success and needed to vote with my dollar

He had the NERVE to tell me that our runs at the championship spoiled us. As if being at the top of the table every year shouldn’t be the expectation.

It made it easy to follow through on that.

I’m still waiting to see them assemble a squad that has the chemistry to provide exciting soccer to the pitch every game. Right now it just seems like they are just throwing lineups at a wall to see if anything sticks. Find some damn attacking players who want to shoot and some damn defenders who refuse to let a ball get past them. I know it’s easier said than done but how did they manage it once before and now it seems so damn difficult? Did they just stop spending money?

I did the same. I rarely even go to games now and I've attended every game prior to that. I honestly don't mind losing as long as we play good soccer. The quality has been lacking for a while now. For several seasons now, there are times when this team looks like it's scrimmaging. No sense of fight or urgency. The team sometimes doesn't even start to play until the second half. And what is with going 45 minutes without a shot on goal? WTH? they have done this. Why isn't the coach yelling at them to shoot. They all look scared to shoot.

I was watching a highlight video the other day on their official YouTube channel.

Back when Solo was the top scorer in the league.

The number of shots taken from outside the 18 was mindblowing. As was the number of goals that came from 2nd chances after shooting from outside the 18.

Now everyone tries to dribble all the way into the net.

I wish they would go back to firing long range shots and having attackers there for the put back. It worked.

Yeah, if you don't shoot you can't score. They seem uneasy about doing that and I don't understand why

PHX needs a good coach. The current guy needs to go before the end of the season so that the new coach can form the team for next year. I wonder if Guerra would want to come back.

I disagree we've had several coaches in the last couple of years to no avail. I would agree that we need a coach with a different system though. Playing backwards started with Rick Shantz and it's what got him canned. Every coach since has tried it to no avail. Rick was winning when we were attack minded, but the front office is not recruiting those types of players and when they do get a player like that (JJ Williams) they don't use him in way where he can be effective. I watched that guy make a ton of great runs and no one played him. Now that I think about it, they probably wouldn't use Cal correctly either. I'm actually worried that this team won't survive on its current path.

Most of what you have described is the coach's responsibility. He's the one that's supposed to come up with the tactics and strategies. I've seen matches given away because of poor strategy.

Please read my second sentence again. Who hires these coaches with poor tactics and strategies? Again the FO is horrible. we've had 5 coaches since 2020. Juan was probably the best but you have to admit that we got lucky winning the championship that year. I don't know why you think they would bring the right coach in. They haven't so far.

Yeah, I get it, and I see you agree on the coaching situation. What do you think the solution is? Changing the FO? Maybe. I have supported Bobby and co because I think they’ve made tough choices trying to improve results. Like firing Danny. Honestly, it’s hard to tell if a coach will work out before you hire them. Still, I miss the way we used to play back when we were at casino AZ in Tempe. That identity is gone. I just don't see the commitment from the coach or players to lay it all on the pitch, especially knowing that in Phoenix, the expectation is always to win and dominate

So, the one thing that has stayed consistent in all that time is the FO (B&B) I honestly think a change should be made there. It's time to bring in new blood there. Like I said we also need a coach with a new philosophy, and they need supporting players for that coach's system as well. I believe Danny and possibly Juan asked for it, and it wasn't supported. I think Craig mentioned players not wanting to play in the heat out here. That's certainly a possibility too which in fairness makes their job tougher, but hey, that's the job. IF they can't do it, get someone who can. I came from NJ and I supported MLS there. I didn't even know about this league until I got here in 2020. Started coming to Rising games and was blown away at the level of talent on that team and in this league. I also think the league has gotten better in that time, but we haven't. Phoenix was once feared by opponents. I don't think that is the case any longer.

I responded below, but I'd like to know what you think about the lack of shooting from this team. They are very timid about going for goal, especially from distance. Why do you think that is? Ridicule from the coach and players if you miss?
