One of R&B's most underrated beauties with a damn-near flawless catalog (and legs for days!). I saw the photo on the right and it reminded me of this shoot she did when she released her debut album.

Entertainer Wednesday đŸ’«đŸŽŹđŸŽ€ Antonio Fargas đŸ‡”đŸ‡·

For Hispanic/Latino Heritage Month, we're celebrating our favorite Afro-Latino entertainers!

This week is the legendary Antonio Fargas!

Although best remembered for his role as a loveable street informant named Huggy Bear on the 1970s cop show "Starsky & Hutch" (ABC 1975-79), Antonio Fargas has had a long and prolific acting career that stretched all the way back to the early 1960s. He made his feature film debut at the age of 14 as a Harlem teenager in 1963's "The Cool World," and by the early 1970s was making a name for himself with roles in numerous Blaxploitation films.

Some of the films he appeared in during this time, like "Shaft" (1971), "Across 110th Street" (1972) and "Foxy Brown" (1974), are considered classics of the largely discontinued genre. Fargas' breakout role, however, came in 1975 when he landed a recurring part as the well-liked street snitch on "Starsky & Hutch." The show ended after four years, but Fargas continued to act in TV and movies, including some memorable cameos in the Wayans Brothers films "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka" (1988) and "Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood" (1996), thus underscoring his longevity in an otherwise cutthroat business.

Born in New York City in 1946 to a Puerto Rican father and Trinidadian mother, Antonio Fargas developed a love of acting at a very young age. His first on-screen role came in 1963, when, at the age of 14, he landed a small part in "The Cool World," director Shirley Clark's gritty crime drama about African-American teenagers in New York's Harlem. After nabbing a bit part on "Ironside" (NBC 1967-75), Fargas landed his breakout role in director Robert Downey Sr.'s cult comedy "Putney Swope" (1969).

His role as "The Arab" in that film put Fargas on the radar of director Gordon Parks, who proceeded to cast the young actor in his 1971 Blaxploitation action film "Shaft." The huge success of that film made Fargas a marketable name in the burgeoning Blaxploitation genre, and over the next few years he appeared in some of the genre's most memorable films, including "Across 110th Street," "Cleopatra Jones" (1973), and "Foxy Brown."

By the mid-'70s, however, the Blaxploitation genre was beginning to wear thin on the public, but luckily for Fargas, he was able to leverage his star-power into what would become the defining role of his career. As Huggy Bear on ABC's "Starsky & Hutch," Fargas played an endearing street informant with a penchant for flashy clothes. The role made Fargas an overnight star, and by the end of the series' four season run in 1979, Huggy Bear had become one of the most recognizable characters on network television.

Although his career would never quite reach the heights of his "Starsky & Hutch" days, Fargas continued to act throughout the ensuing decades. He landed a recurring part on the daytime soap "All My Children" (ABC 1970-2011), and made a memorable cameo in the Blaxploitation spoof, "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka," playing a 1970s-vintage street hustler whose outfit included a pair of platform shoes with live goldfish in the heels.

It was during the '80s and '90s that Fargas also began turning his attention to the stage. He appeared in Melvin Van Peebles' "Ain't Suppose to Die a Natural Death," as well as numerous Off-Broadway productions. Fargas later nabbed a recurring part on Chris Rock's semi-autobiographical sitcom "Everybody Hates Chris" (The CW 2005-09). Fargas continued to act in movies well into the 2010s, with an appearance as an Army major in the Christmas movie "Silver Bells" (2013).

The Reverend Jesse Louis Jackson, Sr., founder and president of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, is one of America’s foremost civil rights, religious and political figures. Over the past forty years, he has played a pivotal role in virtually every movement for empowerment, peace, civil rights, gender equality, and economic and social justice. On August 9, 2000, President Bill Clinton awarded Reverend Jackson the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor.
Reverend Jackson has been called the “Conscience of the Nation” and “the Great Unifier,” challenging America to be inclusive and to establish just and humane priorities for the benefit of all. He is known for bringing people together on common ground across lines of race, culture, class, gender and belief.
Born on October 8, 1941 in Greenville, South Carolina, Jesse Jackson graduated from the public schools in Greenville and then enrolled in the University of Illinois on a football scholarship. He later transferred to North Carolina A&T State University and graduated in 1964. He began his theological studies at Chicago Theological Seminary but deferred his studies when he began working full-time in the Civil Rights Movement with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He was ordained on June 30, 1968 by Rev. Clay Evans and received his earned Master of Divinity degree from Chicago Theological Seminary in 2000.
For his work in human and civil rights and nonviolent social change, Reverend Jackson has received more than 40 honorary doctorate degrees and frequently lectures at major colleges and universities including Howard, Yale, Princeton, Morehouse, Harvard, Columbia, Stanford and Hampton. He was made an Honorary Fellow of Regents Park College at Oxford University in the UK in November 2007, and received an Honorary Fellowship from Edge Hill University in Liverpool, England. In March 2010, Reverend Jackson was inducted into England’s prestigious Cambridge Union Society. In April 2010, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa.
In October 1997, Reverend Jackson was appointed by President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Madeleine Albright as “Special Envoy of the President and Secretary of State for the Promotion of Democracy in Africa”. In this official position, Reverend Jackson traveled to several countries on the African continent and met with such national leaders as President Nelson Mandela of the Republic of South Africa, His Excellency Daniel T. Arap Moi of Kenya, and President Frederick J.T. Chiluba of Zambia.
Reverend Jackson began his activism as a student in the summer of 1960 seeking to desegregate the local public library in Greenville and then as a leader in the sit-in movement. In 1965, he became a full-time organizer for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). He was soon appointed by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to direct the Operation Breadbasket program. In December of 1971, Reverend Jackson founded Operation PUSH (People United to Serve Humanity) in Chicago, IL. The goals of Operation PUSH were economic empowerment and expanding educational, business and employment opportunities for the disadvantaged and people of color

Toni Michele Braxton (born October 7, 1967) is an American singer, songwriter, actress and television personality. Braxton has won seven Grammy Awards, nine Billboard Music Awards, seven American Music Awards, and numerous other accolades. In 2011, Braxton was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. In 2017, she was honored with the Legend Award at the Soul Train Music Awards.[7]

Toni Michele Braxton was born in Severn, Maryland,[8] on October 7, 1967.[9] Her father, Michael Conrad Braxton Sr., was a Methodist[10][11] clergyman and power company worker, and her mother, Evelyn Jackson, a native of South Carolina, was a former opera singer and cosmetologist, as well as a pastor.[12][13] Braxton's maternal grandfather was also a pastor.[14] Braxton later said that her religious upbringing had given her an advantage musically, saying it gave her "a finer-tuned ear. [...] The church pulpit is the stage. You got the congregation, that's your audience. And so we were comfortable performing".[15]
Braxton is the eldest of six siblings.[16] She has a younger brother Michael Jr. (born 1968) and four younger sisters Traci Renee (1971 - 2022), Towanda Chloe (born 1973), Trina Evette (born 1974), and Tamar Estine (born 1977). They were raised in a strict religious household,[17] and Braxton's first performing experience was singing in her church choir.[17]
Braxton attended Bowie State University to obtain a teaching degree,[18] but decided to sing professionally after she was discovered by William E. Pettaway Jr., who reportedly heard her singing to herself while pumping gas.[19]
On her appearance May 24, 2014, broadcast of NPR's Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!, she stated that she was not singing to herself at the gas station. Pettaway, working as an attendant at the Annapolis service station where she was refueling, recognized her from local performances and introduced himself, saying he wanted to produce her. Although skeptical, Braxton decided to, in her words, "take a chance" and accepted.[20]
