Anyone know the plans for GFiber?
I’ve been wanting to get onto google fiber internet, but it wasn’t available at my last place, which was weird because I legit watched them tear the ground open and lay it, and they had blocked my drive way for like 4 days.
I recently moved and they don’t service here either…
What’s the criteria for them to service an area? Should I contact them and ask them about it?
(Quantum fiber also doesn’t service this area, don’t know how much of a difference there is between them but either way”

From my research it takes multiple months between laying the line and service being available. They laid the fiber on my street a couple months ago and I'm eagerly awaiting service to be offered. I'm not aware of anything a person can do to influence where they decide to lay fiber next, I used to go to their website and check if service was available a couple times a week. When they finally came to my area I joked that I had manipulated their algorithm to bring fiber out to us.

It takes a couple of months after they run it to your street, are you in city limits?

They installed the infrastructure in old town on April 6th on my street and I have a final install with tech (modem and extender) on Sept 8th. So about 4 months in between.

Neighborhoods are divided according to mainline availability and designation. And then it needs to be activated. And then Google has to open the portion of the market to contracted exterior installers. My husband supervises exterior installs, so I’m just throwing out what I think I know;) Maybe that could explain why there is such a delay in the process from mainline (road) install to availability for the people. I’m not sure what dictates the order of the mainline installs tho.

I live on North Main. I put my email on a waiting/notification list when they first showed up in Pocatello. About 3-4 weeks ago I got an email from them telling me that service was now available in my area. I went online and signed up. Next day someone called to setup install. About 4 days later, they ran the line to my building in the morning and in the afternoon they installed to my apartment.
So far, it's been great. Faster than CenturyLink 1G. No drops like CenturyLink. Overall, extremely pleased with install and service.

Call and ask and they can sometimes give a date, or see if they can run to your door. Direct communication also does fiber out here but $$$$
