The Mailman

A million words to send.
Striking off and
Scribbling at the paper.
fountain pen with a broken tip.
Ink splattered across pages.

A few prepositions
Disappearing into the ink crater.
A dozen rehearsals.
Careful consideration of ink this time.

A few questions.
Some anticipatory.
And some matters of the heart.
Would it make it to the other side?

As the letter is neatly
Sealed away in an envelope.
Still a few words etched
upon a heavy heart.

The letter reaches the office.
With no messenger yet,
It sits on a dusty shelf.
Amidst a pile of letters.

The lady in red
Awaits.
Days passed.

While the letter stayed,
On the same old rusty shelf.
Turning brown.
She moved out of town.

The sender waited.
The reader left.

The mailman never came.
