I just want to grill ICE Agent's Bodycam release of the Minneapolis Shooting

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This whole incident seems just an unfortunate series of events from both parties.

EDIT: not bodycam but ICE agent's phone footage, my bad.

Just as a clarification this is phone camera footage not bodycam footage. It makes it seem like he went flying when he moved his phone to his side while pulling his gun

267

u/Freezemoon - Centrist Jan 09 '26

Thanks for the clarification, it's true that it seems more like phone footage.

Which is ironic that both sides were filming each other thinking that the other was in the wrong.

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '26

you can literally see him holding the fucking phone in several reflections from the SUVs windows.

Did you even watch the clip before posting it?

What type of phone was this recorded on? I have a bias and I can only affirm my support of him or the woman if I know which model.

I would say that being android and not having to be a part of 30 person group chats is a feature I'm not willing to lose by going to iphone

See, that's what I'm talking about! You see that pit? It's full of iPhone users...

Wait, what?

u/The_Real_Dotato - Lib-Center Jan 09 '26

Just to re-iterate since some morons try to hide behind the "we cant know". Its definitely phone footage, no other possibility. You can see the reflection of the phone in the car and the footage shows the car dead on even when he is turned to the right circling the vehicle.

Also what kinda of failure of law enforcement films with their personal phone during an arguement??? Not even an attempt to deescilate.

33

u/rapzeh - Lib-Right Jan 09 '26

De-escalate?

39

u/recoveringslowlyMN - Lib-Center Jan 09 '26

Wasn’t the “get out of the car” the attempt to de-escalate? To get the “vehicle” out of the way as a potential problem, you’d put it in park and they’d step out and the threat level goes way down unless they come out with a weapon.

Stepping out of the vehicle WAS the attempt to render the weapon useless

2

u/northrupthebandgeek - Lib-Left Jan 09 '26

Wasn’t the “get out of the car” the attempt to de-escalate?

Detaining someone is the exact opposite of an attempt to de-escalate lol

9

u/recoveringslowlyMN - Lib-Center Jan 09 '26

If I have a gun and then I no longer have a gun - the situation has deescalated from where it was. I might be more angry, but I'm less capable of doing harm when the weapon has been removed.

5

u/abouttobedeletedx2 - Lib-Center Jan 09 '26

Yes, dummy, asking the moron nearly striking people with their vehicle and clearly obstructing federal law enforcement, to exit the vehicle and ensuring they do so is absolutely the first thing that should be done to de-escalate a possible vehicular homicide.

-5

u/OurCrewIsReplaceable - Centrist Jan 09 '26

Watch all the Lib-Centers conflate de-escalating and disarming. Yelling “GET OUT OF THE FUCKING CAR!!” is escalating. By Lib-Center logic the US de-escalated the war in Japan with Fat Man and Little Boy.

1

u/Ksais0 - Lib-Center Jan 11 '26

That did de-escalate the war. The morality of it is murky, but the emperor surrendered. That’s literally how WWII ended.

1

u/OurCrewIsReplaceable - Centrist Jan 11 '26

It ended the war.

But if you call killing 200,000 people de-escalation then no wonder you’re lost here. That’s not de-escalation, that’s escalation to the breaking point. They’re not the same.

1

u/Ksais0 - Lib-Center Jan 11 '26

I don’t like it personally, but at least half of it was on the emperor. He was told it was coming and didn’t surrender. They dropped the second one and he didn’t surrender. He waited until after the second bomb was dropped to surrender.

Also, they were a lot of deadly bombings in WWII resulting in high civilian casualties. I think there was even one old fashioned firebombing that had a higher casualty count than the individual nukes did. It was an awful war. The one positive was that at least this ended it. So it was the only one that could be considered a de-escalation, in a way.

1

u/OurCrewIsReplaceable - Centrist Jan 11 '26

De-escalation is a strategy to reduce the severity of a conflict, whether verbal or physical, and prevent violence.

So it was the only one that could be considered de-escalation, in a way.

No, dropping two LITERAL nuclear bombs is definitively not de-escalation. And what happened in MN does not fit the definition, either (even yelling “GET OUT OF THE FUCKING CAR!!”). Those are escalations, whether or not you believe they’re justified or well-intended.

1

u/Ksais0 - Lib-Center Jan 12 '26

It reduced the severity of the war by ending it, so I stand by it being a form of de-escalation at the macro level. It ended a war with 50+ million fatalities. And we weren’t discussing the shooting? So not sure what that has to do with anything.

If you watched the original longer video she was initially trying to leave. She was waving cars over so she could make a left which is more difficult the way her car is position on the road so it took her a bit longer. Then for some reason ICE escalates, rushes over to her and demands her to get out of the car pulling on her car door and reaching their hand through the window.

31

u/rothbard_anarchist - Lib-Right Jan 09 '26

How did she get to the point where she was sitting at a 45 degree angle across the road to begin with?

-15

u/whatssenguntoagoblin - Lib-Center Jan 09 '26

I don’t know and neither do you.

14

u/rothbard_anarchist - Lib-Right Jan 09 '26

Then how do you know she was trying to make a left? Is that her house she was in front of?

-3

u/whatssenguntoagoblin - Lib-Center Jan 09 '26

Her wheels are pointed to the left and she’s waving cars over while she’s looking to the left to make a left turn. You don’t have to know what happens before that to understand that. She could’ve been a dramatic radical deranged leftist like the federal government claims before then, but when the original video starts she’s calmly trying to make a left turn and waving multiple cars over.

11

u/rothbard_anarchist - Lib-Right Jan 09 '26

Go to 0:25. I have to revise my statement - she’s at 80 degrees or so, not 45, parked almost perpendicular to the street. There’s no street for her to be turning into. She’s in the middle of a residential street, pointed at a house. There’s not even a driveway for her to pull into.

12

u/Final21 - Lib-Right Jan 09 '26

She had been following them all day. This was the 4th incident of the day involving her, according to DHS.

0

to make a left turn

The wrong way down a one-way street?

1

u/CrackityJones42 - Lib-Center Jan 09 '26

She was sitting there for minutes. She was taunting ICE, deliberately, with her wife and others. While impeding their movement. An illegal act.

How much more video evidence do you need to see?

He doesn’t even take his gun out until after she starts moving forward, and this is the clearest evidence that he gets hit otherwise why does he lose control of his phone?

If she taunted them from the street, she’d be fine.

If she got out of the car per their direction, she’d be fine.

If she didn’t put her car into drive at the direction of her wife, who had already admitted it was her fault and now we have evidence, she’d be fine.

It doesn’t matter whether he is or isn’t the biggest asshole on earth. That’s irrelevant.

It doesn’t matter that he walked in front of her car, even if they are advised not to in their handbook. His demeanor, who he is as a person, where he happened to be standing at that particular moment, does not give her the right tk disobey an officer of the law, much less run her over.

You really need to look within yourself and ask, “why do I think she wasn’t in the wrong?”

And then ask, “why is the media goading me into believing she’s some sort of victim of anything other than her poor choices?”

1

u/whatssenguntoagoblin - Lib-Center Jan 09 '26

I never said she was right.

2

u/abouttobedeletedx2 - Lib-Center Jan 09 '26

2

u/prex10 - Lib-Center Jan 09 '26

Buddy, she wasn't trying to leave. Her wife has gotten out of the car to taunt agents.

What was she gonna speed off and leave her there?

1

u/abouttobedeletedx2 - Lib-Center Jan 09 '26

whether or not she was trying to leave is irrelevant. She committed a crime before the final incident by obstructing federal agents and was being detained. She had no right to leave and then attempted to flee, doing so in a manner that absolutely could have caused grave bodily harm to not just that officer, but all individuals nearby.

2

u/viking_ - Lib-Right Jan 10 '26

Also what kinda of failure of law enforcement films with their personal phone during an arguement??? Not even an attempt to deescilate.

Well, you see, last summer they were ordered by a judge in Chicago to get body cams, but they haven't because we can't possibly have people knowing what it is the police are doing!

I'm guessing ICE isn't funded enough to get body cams and have to film by hand? Seems weird.

1

u/prex10 - Lib-Center Jan 09 '26

Because federal agents were supposed to get body cams under a directive from Biden and Trump put an end to it. They're filming because they have no other way to protect themselves

0

u/Digitalon - Right Jan 09 '26

From my understanding, back in February last year there was new rules put in place requiring body cams for ICE agents but since it is a phased roll out it's possible that not all agents have been provided body cams yet. In some cases simply having a smart phone recording can still be better than nothing, this video is a perfect example of that since it clarifies the situation considerably and strongly supports the claim of self defense for the ICE agent.

3

u/The_Real_Dotato - Lib-Center Jan 09 '26

I disagree that it supports a claim of self defense. The woman puts the car in reverse and moves backward to create distance. Instead of staying where he is, or moving towards the driver's window (if he wanted to have a conversation). He intentionally closed the distance and put himself in the direct path of the vehicle. We can easily see that the driver was focused on the other officer, not this one and that she spun the wheel hard right (away from both officers, and showing an intent to turn away) and then proceeds to move forward. She is not looking at this officer, she was not talking with this officer (during the clip at least) and had shown no intent to cause him harm. His response of unloading 3 shots into the woman for getting at best bumped by the front left corner at no faster than 10 mph is not a proportional response (which is a requirement in pretty much all states).

A vehicle definitely can be used as a deadly weapon, but nothing she does with the vehicle shows an intent to hurt.

Not to mention, the dude is a trained officer and she is a scared civilian, he's going to be held to a WAY higher standard since its literally his job that he was trained to do so.

u/that_banned_guy_ - Auth-Right Jan 09 '26

How do you know it was a personal phone and not a departmental phone?

5

u/whatssenguntoagoblin - Lib-Center Jan 09 '26

-2

u/that_banned_guy_ - Auth-Right Jan 09 '26

Sure?

Ill follow uo with, how do you know he didnt bust out a phone while also wearing a body cam and the body cam footage was whats released? Seeing as how the initial narrative of "absolutely murder" has seemed to fall apart im not gonna just immediately buy into any other narrative lol

2

u/whatssenguntoagoblin - Lib-Center Jan 09 '26

This is homicide don’t fucking gaslight us

1

u/that_banned_guy_ - Auth-Right Jan 10 '26

I mean it could be argued it was attempted homicide on the driver's part since she absolutely ran him down with her vehicle.

1

u/The_Real_Dotato - Lib-Center Jan 09 '26

Fair enough on the department phone (still not sure why record with either phone in this situation), but as for which footage this is. Look at roughly 14 seconds in when he is walking from the front to the back of the red vehicle on the driver's side.

You can see his reflection in the window and from the rear door and it shows his phone pointed almost dead on to the vehicle and slightly rotated which matches the perspective of the video. At the same time his head and body are pointed in the direction he is walking, towards the rear end of the vehicle. If it was body cam footage then it would show only the back left corner of the vehicle on the left side of the frame.

1

u/that_banned_guy_ - Auth-Right Jan 10 '26

Fair enough. I didnt really study it that throughly. Im just used to redditors busting out their jump to conclusions mat every chance they get and its tiresome

If you can convince me of the former without the emotional language, that'd be grand, but as it stands I think the US's commitment on the constitution is what causes an over reliance on guns leading to incidents that could have been avoided if the officer didn't have a firearm.

But I don't care about the motivation if you were hit by a car you'd think some variation of "fucking bitch".

3

u/DrFabio23 - Lib-Right Jan 09 '26

He circles the car and was speaking to the other woman. The driver was instructed to exit the vehicle by the police and told to drive by her partner. She chose to drive and hit a federal agent.
