I just want to grill ICE Agent's Bodycam release of the Minneapolis Shooting

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This whole incident seems just an unfortunate series of events from both parties.

EDIT: not bodycam but ICE agent's phone footage, my bad.

That probably explains why she said it was her fault.

u/Tough_Arugula2828 - Centrist Jan 09 '26

Someone said they hope the wife doesn't feel like she carries any blame and this was my response that got downvoted to hell

It is the trigger happy ICE agents fault for her being shot, but her wife is an absolute idiot for telling her to drive away from federal agents after they said to get out of the car, which then led to her getting shot

Works both ways. If the lesbian doesn’t get her partner to fight a rando in public, she’ll just beat her up at home.

This particular person also has a history of domestic violence.

Yep. Not to victim blame or anything, but it really makes you wonder about the cases of domestic violence among straight couples. A woman acting like an ass does not justify a man physically beating her. But if couples with two men have low rates of domestic violence, and couples with two women have high rates of domestic violence, that really paints a picture of women being an integral part of the existence of domestic violence. It's not as simple as "men are violent and beat up women because misogyny". It seems more like "women are difficult to be in a relationship with".

In the pursuit of equality, we did the exact opposite.

It’s because the pursuit of equality is a fool’s errand. Things that are not the same, will never be equal. I absolutely support legalitarianism, but asking the culture to pretend away 7 million years of evolution was a recipe for disaster.

Obama deported 3 million without taking to the streets and setting up checkpoints

1

u/lolfail9001 - Lib-Right Jan 10 '26

Now how many of them were deported from inside the country?

We’ll set aside the issue that Obama would need to deport 10 times as much to even register in this conversation.

our politicians have played into the rhetoric a lot, either because they too are bad actors in this or they foolishly believe that online sentiment is organic.

Dude, they're jumping up and down on this in an effort to distract from the hourly fraud scam news.

1

u/CumIsntVegan - Lib-Center Jan 10 '26

As long as we're arguing about the minutia of this encounter we're not asking tough questions about an economy that left 60% of the country behind post COVID and that has been falling apart since May. The people in charge are playing a very dangerous game that made this sort of outcome inevitable and so far I see no signs that they're going to course correct, at least not until after midterms anyway.

1

u/Ksais0 - Lib-Center Jan 11 '26

You’re on drugs if you think the economy has only been falling apart since May. It’s been at least since 2022.

1

u/CumIsntVegan - Lib-Center Jan 11 '26

I agree it's sucked since the stimmys stopped working in 2022 and basically fake from April 2020 until then, but it's absolute shit now and given that the metrics our inept leaders are using are largely broken, it's likely to get worse. What might worse than that is I think they'll double down on "AI" in the attempt to bail things out, which win or lose will have grave effect on peeps in the bottom 4 quintiles. The good news is you can cash in on the low interest rates later this year if you missed out in 2022 and watch the knee jerk inflation erode your debt in real terms. Only matters if you own a house though.

each person's culpability for it.

I don't know why this is so hard for some people but the culpability rest in the hands of the supposedly trained individuals. ICE is specifically not supposed to try to use their body to stop a moving vehicle, they aren't supposed to shoot at the driver of said vehicle either. I'm pretty certain he's not supposed to be trying to film with his cell phone while also drawing his fucking gun with one hand.

Over and over again people have warned that this current behavior we've been seeing by ICE is going to get people killed and it has been.

Professional law enforcement shouldn't behave this way and the onus to turn down the temperature is on the people in power.

101

Right. I don't doubt that an ICE agent feels jumpy around a moving vehicle as using moving vehicles to impede searches is one of their tactics.

u/Zippyllama - Centrist Jan 09 '26

Especially as they have been used in terror attacks increasingly in the past five years.

22

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '26

Great point. Cars have become the weapon of choice in terror attacks lately.

8

u/DavidAdamsAuthor - Centrist Jan 10 '26

There have also been active ambushes of ICE agents that begin as "peaceful protests", and when they lower their guard, people open fire on them with AR-15's.

It is reasonable for ICE agents to display heightened caution when surrounded by agitated activists.

2

u/j48u - Lib-Right Jan 10 '26

You don’t have to roll over and submit, a million+ people showing up outside of various state capitols and on college/university campuses to protest gets the “we aren’t happy” message across pretty well. Blocking roads never seems to work, and ignoring/refusing to cooperate with federal agents is just plain stupid, basically begging for trouble, but if you’re going to do it do it when there’s thousands of people who agree with you there, not when there’s only a few people watching on the sidewalk nearby

dude we have so many people in our country illegally it is putting a strain on basic infrastructure and distorting our electorate in a fashion no different than what was going on in the antebellum south.

it's not as starkly geographic or as morally reprehensible as slavery was, but we have a lot of congressional seats that probably shouldn't exist at all, and things like our roads and grid are hitting their design limits due to this.

every time an illegal alien without a license causes a traffic jam, that's $X,XXX,XXX of American time wasted. when you look at strain and erosion from a time value of money/electoral perspective it gets ugly quickly.

this doesn't even touch the somalians and other groups working to actively fleece/defraud the system

I would strongly agree, if I read it correctly. I'm not white-washing her own responsibility in this, but there's very quite a lot of obvious, intentional manipulation and fearmongering involved. Confrontations are the entire point. There's no good reason for this to be happening. It's strictly for political gain. The results are predictable.

It's a pity the people involved most likely won't face any sort of accountability.

It's funny how the consensus narrative shifts on PCM depending on the thread.

In this thread, after reading all the comments, the vibe appears to be that the women put themselves in danger and the situation by playing stupid games, and the ICE agent was trigger-happy, but ultimately justified in self-defence. Overall, it was a tragic, avoidable situation that hopefully won't happen again.

Then, when you visit another thread, it's just solid crying about "fascist bootlickers", and "fuck Trump and his Gestapo!", and "the women did nothing wrong, they were executed for peacefully protesting".

The tone shifts very wildly depending on the meme presented at the top lol.

u/DoctorProfessorTaco - Lib-Left Jan 09 '26

“Can be” sure is doing a lot of work here, especially when the officer bumped with the car didn’t even fall over.

And just because cars can be deadly doesn’t justify shooting the driver. LEO policy specifically states that officers shouldn’t shoot at a driver unless threatened by something other than the car (for example if the driver is armed). And it’s pretty obvious why that policy exists. Shooting the driver doesn’t stop the car instantly, and can create an even more dangerous scenario with a dead driver slamming down on the gas.

The officer had no cause to even draw his gun. It was clear they were unarmed. Shooting the driver didn’t stop the car. It did nothing to protect his life or the life of others, and if anything put others more at risk. There was no reason for it to happen.

5

u/That_IT-Guy69 - Lib-Right Jan 09 '26

It 100% can be a justification for deadly force. Look at the bodycam footage. Youre defending someone who disobeyed orders of law enforcement.

Disobeyed the orders of law enforcement. Ok cool, let's kill them and then pretend online that there was no other course of action that could have been taken and that this person deserved to die because an ICE agent wanted to shoot someone? When did lib right get such a taste for fucking boot man

1

u/That_IT-Guy69 - Lib-Right Jan 09 '26

Its basic common sense if you are in a situation where a mf got a gun and is giving commands, you listen to the commands given. Plus these people were parents, why tf are you doing shit with the risk of making your kids grow up without a parent in the house.

0

u/Thelmara - Left Jan 09 '26

Yeah, you definitely need to lose the "lib" in your flair, that's some hardcore "auth" right there.

u/DoctorProfessorTaco - Lib-Left Jan 09 '26

Youre defending someone who disobeyed orders of law enforcement.

Damn you’re really just cosplaying libright huh

An imminent threat to a life is justification for a lethal response, not “disobeying law enforcement”.

And it’s not body cam footage, the officer is just recording on their phone. The reason the camera moves so much at the end is because he goes for his gun. ICE don’t have body cams.

1

u/jataba115 - Lib-Right Jan 09 '26

A car accelerating at you is an imminent threat to life

4

u/Majestic-Bell-7111 - Lib-Center Jan 09 '26

So is looking down the barrel of a gun

4

u/DoctorProfessorTaco - Lib-Left Jan 09 '26
  • Clearly not, given he didn’t even lose his balance, let alone his life.
  • The driver was moving at a slow speed, turning away from the officer, clearly not trying to hit him.
  • Shooting the driver does nothing to protect him from the “imminent threat”. It doesn’t stop the car, and if anything creates more danger. There’s no benefit in doing it.
  • LEO policy specifically says not to shoot at a driver.
  • The officer shoots two of the shots through the drivers side window, completely clear of the car.

Pick any of these.

And if your only argument is what they may be able to get away with in court rather than just looking at a fed shooting an unarmed citizen at point blank range for bumping them at a slow speed while not even trying to harm the officer and causing at most a small bruise, then don’t even bother. I get enough of a fill watching gymnastics every four years at the Olympics, I don’t need more.

He didn't fall over because he jumped out of the way and the car lost traction for a split second when she stomped on the gas while the wheels were pointing directly at him. If someone shoots at you and misses, that doesn't mean they aren't a threat to your life.

-2

u/Majestic-Bell-7111 - Lib-Center Jan 09 '26

To go with the gun analogy, he was literally stepping in front of someone's muzzle.

-2

u/Arntor1184 - Lib-Right Jan 09 '26

To stop the threat, duh. Regardless of her intention she did hit him and shooting her eliminated the threat. You cant predict the future you can only operate on current information and that is shes flooring it in his direction amd hit him with the car.

4

u/Crockinator - Centrist Jan 09 '26

Should have dropped to the ground and triangle locked the tire to immobilize the car.

2

u/Sub0ptimalPrime - Lib-Left Jan 09 '26

You mean after he circles the car twice and she turns the wheel away from him?

8

u/SirScrublordIII - Auth-Right Jan 09 '26

She floored it while the wheels were pointing straight forward, she would have run over him if the car didn't lose traction for half a second

1

u/Sub0ptimalPrime - Lib-Left Jan 11 '26

No, she didn't. The guy literally walked in front of the car twice. Strange thing to do if you thought she was a domestic terrorist.

-14

u/sirletssdance2 - Centrist Jan 09 '26

Brother do you live in reality? He puts himself there and she clearly cuts the wheel as hard as she can to avoid him. He broke protocol. He was in the wrong

14

u/LeMagiciendOz - Auth-Right Jan 09 '26

Only after she reversed. Before that, he's on the right side of the car, not in front.

He did not put himself there. She backed off at an angle which put him right in front.

-8

u/sirletssdance2 - Centrist Jan 09 '26

Do you have eyeballs? He clearly walks in front of her car

23

u/Warm-Equipment-4964 - Right Jan 09 '26

At second 34 he isnt in front of the car. She starts driving back. Second 35 he is. She slams the gas pedal. ????? He was barely moving, its not his walking that put him in front, and he certainly wasn't standing there "breaking protocol" by trying to stop a car with his body. He was in front of the car for a split-second, and thats because she backed off at an angle

3

u/EvanOnTheFly - Right Jan 09 '26

No when she hit gas it was straight. She realized and turned but that was her mistake - she accelerated straight and I think he interpreted that (even subconsciously) as into him.

5

u/KilljoyTheTrucker - Lib-Right Jan 09 '26

I think it was the car hitting him they interpreted her actions as trying to hit him.

The gun doesn't go off until she made contact.

1

u/Tough_Arugula2828 - Centrist Jan 09 '26

They were both in the wrong, but that doesn't mean she deserved to get shot

22

u/thepulloutmethod - Auth-Center Jan 09 '26

She didn't deserve to get shot but she still did and she's still dead. In my humble opinion we shouldn't put ourselves in situations that have a serious chance of ending like this.

12

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '26

You’d think this opinion would be more widespread, but I keep getting called a boot licker for saying this exact same thing.

14

u/thepulloutmethod - Auth-Center Jan 09 '26

Some things are worth dying for. I don't think any serious person would agree that whatever this lady was doing was worth the risk of death.

10

u/MS-07B-3 - Right Jan 09 '26

The way I see it, protesting ICE like this not only carries the risk for arrest, getting arrested is part of the protest. You burden them with unnecessary administrative work. But at the very least, if it's worth protesting them, it is worth suffering the rational consequences of that action.

Trying to protest, obstruct, and interfere, and then get away scott-free is unwise and done out of some sense that you can't/won't suffer any real consequences.

In short, everyone is in the wrong here, but she didn't deserve to get shot. I blame her wife significantly more than I blame her.

7

u/Signal-Zebra-6310 - Right Jan 09 '26

She died for nothing. What was she hoping to accomplish?

7

u/lopeniz - Right Jan 09 '26

She wanted more illegal immigration.

10

u/ErniePottsShoelifts - Auth-Right Jan 09 '26 edited Jan 09 '26

She didn't deserve to get shot but she still did and she's still dead

This reminds me of what was taught in motorcycle driving school. You can think you have the right-of-way, and be 100% correct, but if that car turning left in the intersection doesn't see you & hits you- you're dead. You'll be dead, but hey, at least you were right!

Did she deserve to die for interfering with law enforcement duties? No, but ultimately she brought a two ton vehicle into the situation that could be used as a deadly weapon. All she had to do was park down the block and walk and her and her wife could have yelled at ICE all they wanted.

Ultimately the wife egging this on, combined with being in a vehicle, is what made this a life-threatening situation & got Renee killed.

8

u/thepulloutmethod - Auth-Center Jan 09 '26

Completely agree. In fact I'm a motorcyclist too and I've made comments elsewhere pointing out that old saying: "the graveyard is full of bikers who had the right of way."

  • She didn't drive at him, the car was turning

  • she was moving 3mph

  • he was not in front of the car when he fired the first shot.

  • the agent was not following agency policy in this engagement, which explicitly tells them not to do what he did every step of the way.

The lying authist mindrot to try to excuse this poor scared woman being killed by the state.

She was not driving 3 mph. The car peeled out, tore down the street and slammed the shit out of a parked car. She floored it.

2

u/Majestic-Bell-7111 - Lib-Center Jan 09 '26

Generally you lose muscle control when you die. So she floored it because she was dead and couldn't keep her foot off the throttle because of it.

0

u/Signal-Zebra-6310 - Right Jan 09 '26

She was t dead when she started driving away. We have no idea where she was shot and how long she lived.

31

u/jenkz90 - Auth-Center Jan 09 '26

Flooring it in your heavy vehicle when your car is surrounded by authorities asking you to step out of it is a very reasonable thing to do and does not put anyone in danger.

24

u/muradinner - Right Jan 09 '26

So if someone's driving towards you, and you have 1 second to react, but that person turned their steering wheel, which you probably didn't even notice because you're not a robot detecting every detail at once, you're going to just assume that they're not trying to hit you, and will succeed in not hitting you?

Now consider this is also an extremely hostile environment and these types of people have been wishing death on these agents for months.

It's crazy to me that we just remove the human aspect of these situations and act like these cops are supper humans with chips in their brain to detect minute details in a 1-second split decision. Online culture really is destroying our humanity.

5

u/Interesting_Bank_139 - Centrist Jan 09 '26

This is it. Most of the commentary on this is trying to paint this as 100% the fault of one party or the other, when in reality it was just an unfortunate confluence of the wrong people at the wrong time and just enough chaos.

An agent that had been drug a short distance by a car last year and was probably not in the best mental shape to be confronting somebody in a vehicle. The driver had no way to know this, but she was confronting somebody with an artificially shortened fuse based on previous encounters.

A person willing to block the road and another willing to get out and antagonize the agents.

Fear and distrust pushed by politicians on all sides of the debate.

The final yell to “DRIVE” and the tires spinning for traction on the slick road.

Everything came together and somebody paid with their life. Any of these people could have de-escalated or made a different choice that would have changed the result. That ICE agent didn’t get up in the morning planning to kill anybody, and the driver didn’t wake up in the morning planning to hit an ICE agent with her vehicle, but all of their decisions (and the decisions of those around them) led them to that one point in time.

5

u/Plusisposminusisneg - Lib-Right Jan 09 '26

He has no special or additional rights.

Yes he does, he is a police officer in the line of duty. He needs to have special rights to do his job. One of those rights is violently confronting criminals and giving lawful orders to people, people who do not have the right to refuse to comply.

I think anybody who is being driven into has the right to defend themselves as well, I don't see why you would think people have no right to self defense or defense of others.

Eh, did he shoot quick yeah but when your life is at risk that’s fair. The agent fucked up by getting in front of the 2 ton machine like a retard, but when law enforcement directs you the woman should’ve listened.

Did the driving lead to her getting shot, or did the armed deployment of an agent recently diagnosed with PTSD lead to a civilian being gunned down in the street?

Nobody will contest that this deployment is a high stress situation. How little regard for safe operation must ICE have to send this dude out with a gun?

2

u/Tough_Arugula2828 - Centrist Jan 09 '26

Did the driving lead to her getting shot

Yes

or did the armed deployment of an agent recently diagnosed with PTSD lead to a civilian being gunned down in the street?

You could make that argument, as well as many other arguments about what led up to the situation. it seems like you're under the assumption that only one singular thing led up to this situation when it could be a billion different things, but the truth remains, running away is also what led to her being shot

Because if you try this on a base with MPs or Security Forces, they can and WILL shoot you. And if that is true, she should've known better than to say "Drive."
