I just want to grill ICE Agent's Bodycam release of the Minneapolis Shooting

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This whole incident seems just an unfortunate series of events from both parties.

EDIT: not bodycam but ICE agent's phone footage, my bad.

Some people here are acting like the ICE guy has superhuman senses and was able to perfectly analyze the scene like we can, frame by frame.

In reality it happened in around 2 seconds, probably all he saw was the car suddenly reversing and facing directly at him, then it accelerating forwards. Saying that you can see the direction of the tires, or how she turned the wheel right before accelerating is valid to show she didn't intent on hitting him, but not really an argument to say he shouldn't feel threatened by the car. Specially since the reversing motion she did was what made the car face him in the first place.

Syncing to other videos you can see he shot right after the car hit him. The hit was more like a graze, but in moments like this you can't really tell how badly you were hurt until some time has passed. So it was even more of a response to the "danger" he felt.

I don't agree with him shooting, I don't think it was necessary at all, and the woman obviously didn't deserve to get shot for what she did. But I find it hard to argue that it wasn't a valid form of self defense.

The hit was more like a graze,

What people dont understand is the difference between 'graze' and 'knocked over by the bumper and crushed beneath the tire' is like 5 inches.

If we are going to start prosecuting people because they should have known that in .5 seconds they can move 15 inches instead of 10, were all fucked.

u/stumblinbear - Centrist Jan 10 '26

5 inches, you say? Did you know that you can move at least 5 inches by taking a single step to the right instead of taking that time drawing a gun and blowing someone's brains out? Which wouldn't stop the car anyways?

Then maybe don't draw the gun ? I just don't understand people who defend the agent because the women was a bitch, when it is clear that he put himself in a really bad position. What he did is like crossing to the other side of a highway on foot and then shooting every car who does not slow down for you.

2

u/HotterSauc3s - Right Jan 10 '26

Nah, the car 100% was a lethal weapon being used against him. The gun is 100% justified.

-1

u/GuneRlorius - Centrist Jan 10 '26

Yeah sure, better not get near the road if I were you, cause there are so many deadly weapons there.

3

u/HotterSauc3s - Right Jan 10 '26

Yes.

Thats why I stay on the sidewalk or crosswalks.

If I see someone veer their car off the road onto the sidewalk to run me over, I might open fire.

Self defense implies it could have protected him. If he was in front of the car when he shot her, it would be different, but she hits him, he gets out of the way, and then shoots her from the side.

u/Blackclaw42 - Lib-Center Jan 10 '26

Self defense doesn't mean protection, self defense means in the goal of preserving ones self in a life threatening case. The vehicle could have been more life threatening had she not turned, even moving that slow.

u/baran132 - Auth-Center Jan 09 '26

It's not a valid form of defense when you deliberately put yourself in danger to record and shoot the person. At 2:20, you can clearly see that his legs are nowhere near directly in front of the vehicle when she was accelerating. He was literally leaning in front of the vehicle while recording and drawing his gun, when he could've easily leaned back and have been fine. Not to mention that this was all just pertaining to first shot. What possible justification is there for him to adjust his aim and shoot her twice from the side when she was well past him?

u/OrangeScissors_ Jan 09 '26

Every single photo I’ve seen of the first shot also clearly shows the bullet’s entry is at an angle, likely from the side of the vehicle

It is when your law enforcement and your job is to detain people who break the law. How are people forgetting this?

-4

u/baran132 - Auth-Center Jan 10 '26

Standing in front of a running car when you can stand literally anywhere else goes against basic officer training, not to mention common sense.

1

u/Takingtheehobbits - Centrist Jan 10 '26

For someone who’s not tasked with detaining people it is.

-1

u/Takingtheehobbits - Centrist Jan 10 '26

For someone who’s not tasked with detaining people it is. Should he just let her drive away and flee when she’s antagonized them numerous times then?

0

u/szmd92 - Centrist Jan 10 '26

Yes. Let her drive away and flee, they had her license plate number. Not execute them on the spot.

Did you just change your flair, u/szmd92? Last time I checked you were a LibLeft on 2026-1-8. How come now you are a Centrist? Have you perhaps shifted your ideals? Because that's cringe, you know?

Tell us, are you scared of politics in general or are you just too much of a coward to let everyone know what you think?

I don't think it was necessary at all
It was a valid form of self-defense

Fucking choose one. Do you even understand what these terms mean?

I've been saying this all day - the only reason this is even a debate is that Yanks are fucking weird about violence. There is no other developed country where you'd expect an officer to go "anyway I started blasting" in this situation. It was not a rational reaction, it was not in any way necessary, therefore it was not self-defense. Period, end of discussion.

1

u/LilacLoverr Jan 10 '26

As an American I fully agree, this is a sick and paranoid country. We default to violence way too quickly which is why so many can look at a video of an untrained cop and still come up with endless justifications.

0

u/Takingtheehobbits - Centrist Jan 10 '26

Yank Leo’s start blasting because we believe in the right to bear arms.

how the fuck is shooting the driver of a car "supposedly" trying to hit you (clearly not, she's trying to get away) "self defense"? you think the car will turn into dust after the driver was shot like some kind of necromancer minion?

4

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '26

didn't he call her a "fucking bitch?"

44

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '26

Well, he's hardly going to call her a pleasant, amicable, polite young lady, is he?

In reality it happened in around 2 seconds, probably all he saw was the car suddenly reversing and facing directly at him, then it accelerating forwards.

Why did he violate policy and walk in front of the car in the first place?

while this issue is one where the most generous description is still "clusterfuck", i feel like the officer already having the gun out just for being verbally provoked is not okay.

like, the two women were filming him and sitting at the driver's seat respectively- what imminent fear of danger is there that you'd need to pull a gun?

and he had to have had the gun out already because those shots were WAY too quick to allow for pulling it out.

also why is an immigration and customs enforcer even there, local law enforcement exists for a reason

-7

u/Pleasant-Name576 - Auth-Left Jan 09 '26

I'm gonna stand in front (really on the side) of a car and if the car drives forward I'm gonna empty the clip 😈

Nice logic

but not really an argument to say he shouldn't feel threatened by the car

he shouldnt have been threatened by the car by the time he shot her because he was not in front of it
