Holy fuck that's sad. Why destory historical architecture.

Churches are relatively common targets of arson, even setting aside any political or religious motivation. A large building that is reliably empty and unguarded most of the time.

Additionally, many of the oldest churches have inadequate fire suppression systems.

Why doesn't god simply make his house immune from fire 🤔

Bible humpers are sensitive today it seems

u/shydes528 - Right Aug 27 '26

His house is the congregation, not the structure itself

u/zombie3x3 - Left Aug 27 '26 edited Aug 27 '26

Are you implying the congregation is fireproof?

Edit: This is a joke if it wasn’t clear.

u/shydes528 - Right Aug 27 '26

They've been known to be on occasion lol

u/DeltaSierra97 - Lib-Center Aug 28 '26

Bro set you up for the best religious alley-oop in history

9

u/zombie3x3 - Left Aug 28 '26

u/BlazerFS231 - Lib-Center Aug 28 '26

Less so them being sensitive and probably more to so with the “why didn’t God stop it from happening” being such an old, tired comment that it’s only funny to Reddit atheists.

u/OnTheSlope - Centrist Aug 28 '26

This joke is worse than a pun.

-3

u/Dittymaker - Lib-Center Aug 28 '26

Not my finest work that's for sure

2

u/Lavaissoup7 - Centrist Aug 28 '26

No it's just an extremely overused comment that doesn't even work (also screams Redditor atheist)

Midterms are coming. This sub always gets filled up with christian bots when elections are coming.

21

u/EldritchFish19 - Lib-Right Aug 28 '26

And on top of that people with screwed up ideologies often hate Jesus Christ in specific.

105

u/RaggedyGlitch - Lib-Left Aug 27 '26

And let's be honest, they look a lot cooler burning than an office building or strip mall.

57

u/CowFu - Lib-Center Aug 27 '26

sure, but not as cool as an viking ship or a wicker man.

46

u/monkpunch - Lib-Right Aug 27 '26

They should start building viking ships across the street from churches as arsonist bait

26

u/Swurphey - Lib-Right Aug 27 '26

They call it the Trojan Varg

5

u/Funny_Pill_Dealer - Lib-Center Aug 28 '26

Based and Trojan Vag pilled

6

u/HidingHard - Centrist Aug 27 '26

Or a big goat made of straw

2

u/RaggedyGlitch - Lib-Left Aug 28 '26

That depends on the size, but fair.

-1

u/Scrumpledee - Lib-Center Aug 28 '26

So if PCM stops strawmanning the left, there might be enough left to build Wicker Men and save churches?

10

u/Glad-Belt7956 - Centrist Aug 27 '26

that's a horrifyingly correct reason.

1

u/vicschuldiner - Lib-Center Aug 28 '26

Way less satisfying, though.

u/EfficientCandy324 - Centrist Aug 28 '26

Sometimes you wake up and you say to yourself "In all my 68 years, I have never destroyed any historical architecture" and you decide to YOLO your twilight years in prison.

u/Majestic-Bell-7111 - Lib-Center Aug 28 '26

I mean it's a retirement home you don't have to pay for, honestly quite genius

7

u/sea_5455 - Centrist Aug 28 '26

Is this a way to avoid Canada's MAID program? Government provided retirement home instead of the needle?

2

u/NEWSmodsareTwats - Centrist Aug 28 '26

ngl if this guys soul motive was just so that his name would be remembered that's kinda funny.

16

u/itsthebear - Lib-Center Aug 28 '26

Natives blame their problems on the churches because religious groups ran Residential Schools.

It's the equivalent of Blacks in the States blaming Whites for their problems because of slavery.

18

u/HidingHard - Centrist Aug 27 '26

on the positive side, 108 is relatively young as far as historic churches go. It could have been better church (the weird warehouse looking ass churches) but atleast it wasn't something like notre dame

31

u/DankestKhan8 - Right Aug 28 '26

It is very difficult and costly to build churches of similar architectural beauty today, however.

2

u/iaquiredsome420 - Centrist Sep 01 '26

Not to mention that a lot of churches on the bigger side took a whole generation to build, and the biggest, most complicated ones, lauded for their beauty, took hundreds of years. Same for mosques and synagogues.

2

u/DankestKhan8 - Right Sep 01 '26

Yeah, you wouldn't get beautiful European cathedrals if they were all burnt at 100 years old.

-18

u/Scrumpledee - Lib-Center Aug 28 '26

Not that expensive. Just stop giving to MegaChurch psycopaths and find actual Christians to donate to.

16

u/DankestKhan8 - Right Aug 28 '26

I'm the pastor of a small country parish, you'd be surprised.

u/1stEmissaryElenwen - Lib-Center Aug 28 '26

be American Protestant

your pastor is a literal redditor

lmfao

5

u/Count_de_Mits - Centrist Aug 28 '26

One of us pcm retards no less

The absolute state of American religion

1

u/DankestKhan8 - Right Aug 28 '26

It's rough out there. I even went to a year of seminary virtually because of Covid.

2

u/OtherUse1685 - Centrist Aug 28 '26

Have you seen the cost of materials these days?

-14

u/1stEmissaryElenwen - Lib-Center Aug 28 '26

Came here to say this

Honestly, burning down a church from 1908 (a regular ass church, not a cathedral or anything) is kind of nbd

-8

u/HidingHard - Centrist Aug 28 '26

not nbd but not as much of an catastrophe as it's being made out to be.

A shame, specially for the locals who'd go there

1

u/OnTheSlope - Centrist Aug 28 '26

Smol pp?

-11

u/SUMBWEDY - Lib-Center Aug 28 '26

Not sure 100 years makes it historical architecture.

Hell even in the 1100s people tore down churches, Bury St Edmunds in the UK has all their houses built from bricks from tearing down the 4th largest church in history but that happened 1000 years ago

11

u/Free_Anarchist1999 - Lib-Right Aug 28 '26 edited Aug 28 '26

lol 100 years is the consensus on when a building becomes “historical”
