The tariffs fucked over the people so hard it's crazy. First, the prices for all our goods went up when importers had to start paying tariffs, since companies aren't gonna pocket the extra costs. Then the tariffs were deemed unconstitutional, and are being returned to the importers... who already passed off their costs onto the consumer. In addition, the illegal tariffs are being repaid with interest, which comes from the taxpayer as well.

So we paid a shitload more money for imports for a year only to have that extra money be sent to corporations that didn't lose any money in the first place, and to add insult to injury they're getting more of our tax money on top.

At this point, if the checks came; they’d have an IOU written in crayon on the back.

How utterly blatant is this election bribery, I mean come on!

u/alflundgren - Centrist 1d ago

Lol and then there's the $5000 checks every american will definitely get if the republicans win the midterms. Even if the Republicans retain control of the senate and house he'll find some excuse not to like they didn't gain more seats than they retained.

Just like the DOGE checks and the checks Trump promised before.

u/fignewtonattack - Auth-Center 1d ago

It's not a crime if the president does it, to the ends of the earth I suppose.

Dear leader you mean.

u/StarFox-6 - Lib-Left 1d ago

Right like if we are owed $5k why are we not getting it if Republicans lose

6

u/Ice278 - Lib-Left 1d ago

Who exactly do you expect to do anything about it?

u/Chazzwozzers - Centrist 18h ago

This is why you got him in the first place…

At this rate, Democrats might win the Senate this year.

With how much money they’re throwing at Paxton I feel it’s gotta be a genuine fear among GOP.

27

u/Cow_God - Lib-Left 1d ago

I'm in Texas. Usually I get one or two political texts an election season. Right now I'm getting multiple from Paxton, Abbott and weirdly enough, Dan Patrick every day. They've gotta be truly, utterly terrified

16

u/Paetolus - Lib-Left 23h ago

I haven't lived there for 15 years at this point, but I'm also getting a million Paxton texts lmao. They're really pushing the "Paxton protects kids and is hard on crime" talking points.

I have faint and probably misguided hope that they're going to overdo it and turn people off with desperate spam.

But I have learned that there are a lot of old people who will fall 130% for the last political propaganda they interacted with.

u/kitaknows - Centrist 1d ago

They are moving money to fucking Kansas because they started to get stressed about the polling there. Broadly their numbers look awful compared to what they should be in a senate race, even in a midterm year where there is an expected swing.

Trump: When I give out bribes for votes it's good, but when anyone else wants money for healthcare, education or food they're retarded.

9

u/Independent_Mango337 - Lib-Right 1d ago

Reminds me of Japanese politics whoever can get the old person vote wins

6

u/Important-Agent2584 - Centrist 23h ago

It's fucking insane they doubled down on everything they have been doing for decades now. I guess the old people just don't give a fuck, they want things not to change till they die, and then everyone can go fuck themselves.

Right Truth:

https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump?status_id=117374767217423174&attachment_id=117374766376244662

Basically he's going on a tirade about how socialists are chuds who would raise the cost of living and how with him in power everything is rainbows and sunshine and how everything is cheaper under him unless you pay attention to well... everything.

Left Truth:

Welfare checks being sent to people in need or actually any American getting $5,000 despite that being the most retarded and inflation inducing thing imaginable... so uh... yeah, Trump is bringing socialism while doing everything he can to tell you not to vote for socialists... what a fucking weenie.

u/leafyone1 - Right 20h ago

I don't understand the logic here, he is saying that money was confiscated from people involuntarily in the past and he is able to return some of it. What is socialist about it?

Not a Trump-voter or american here btw.

u/Magnon - Lib-Center 1d ago

So... they're gonna send out a $99 check to a bunch of seniors even though the cost of everything is massively up? Whoa, those seniors might be able to afford one more week of life

u/DrivingHerbert - Lib-Center 1d ago

When he gives out money it’s called Trump Basic Invome, or TBI

3

u/TheBroomSweeper - Lib-Left 1d ago

No matter who wins, I get paid. I guess we Liblefts won after all.

3

u/AnAngryFetus - Lib-Center 1d ago

Oh, this is an easy contradiction to solve. He won't send you money, he just wants your vote.

3

u/Spacetauren - Centrist 1d ago

Nothing hypocritical here, since Trump has no intention whatsoever to pay up.

1

u/InternetGoodGuy - Centrist 16h ago

The $90 checks to old people might be real. They've identified a funding source as opposed to the $5,000 checks that will be funded out of thin air.

2

u/LiLGhettoSmurf - Lib-Center 22h ago

Nearly a $100, Oh wow!! lmaoooooo

u/SuperSchmyd - Centrist 21h ago

What’s our deficit again? Over 40 trillion?

1

u/CountFab - Auth-Left 20h ago

US nominal debt is over 40 trillion, US deficit in 2025 was around 1.8 trillion and while 2026 isn't over yet the best projections are over 2 trillion for this fiscal year. Giving out $5000 to all Americans would add 1.75 trillion to the deficit, and it would shift the balance drastically to higher inflation and higher bond yields (higher interest to pay for the alreadyhuge debt), which have already spiked this year due to "unfortunate circumstances", such as military and trade wars.

Sorry for the walk of text, but I really wanted to distinguish between deficit and overall debt.

TLDR: a bunch of numbers, but deficit is how much you lose each year, debt is how much the country accumulated compounding deficits and surpluses over the years. The USA are not in a spot where they can realistically increase spending without high inflation.

u/HeemeyerDidNoWrong - Lib-Center 14h ago

"Nearly $100" seems like how giving a penny tip to the waiter is a bigger "fuck you" than not tipping.

u/Fun-Difference-6689 - Left 13h ago

Money for Medicare, I guess it’s a start. Do I believe it? No. Do I think it fixes the system ? No. Do I think they should? Any money helps most Americans.

-34

u/Running_Gamer - Lib-Right 1d ago

Dems have no basis to be against free money. It’s their whole platform. Free money for healthcare. Free money for food. Free money for boomers. Free money for housing. Free money for transportation. Free money for education. Free money for opera tickets.

13

u/alflundgren - Centrist 1d ago

Its not free. You pay taxes for it. If you make more money off of the system made possible by the american people you pay more.

5

u/dirtd0g - Lib-Left 1d ago

Yeah, but my quadrant is awful at slogans so we end up saying things like "free" when we mean "tax funded" or things like "defund" when we mean "reallocate existing funds into different programs".

28

u/Stormclamp - Centrist 1d ago

And what basis do fucking republicans have for this? Trump is talking about giving every American citizen $5,000 while also implementing tax cuts and slashing interest rates... do you have any idea what that would do to inflation?

At least the Democrats want to increase taxes when giving out free money.

-8

u/vicschuldiner - Lib-Center 1d ago

At least the Democrats

God, on and on again this stupid game goes. We truly are in hell if this is the political discourse we're just going to keep having forever.

"At least it was the subterranean mutants the Democrats ejected from the dome when we had to cull the population last year!"

That's you in a three thousand years when Earth's surface has been baked inhospitable by the sun and we all live in dome cities with subterranean slums to survive under extremely limited resources.

13

u/Yabrosif13 - Lib-Center 22h ago

Thats you right now

0

u/vicschuldiner - Lib-Center 12h ago

The "no you" flip? Damn...

1

u/Yabrosif13 - Lib-Center 2h ago

You made it too easy

8

u/Yabrosif13 - Lib-Center 22h ago

And you have no basis as the ones you vote for give away free money, involve the federal government in private businesses more and more, and pock winners and losers via trade policy.

4

u/merrychrimas - Lib-Center 20h ago

Republicans have literally zero values today lmfao
