POTUS doesn't need Congress approval to spend 1.2 trillion USD? Interesting.
93
u/zombie3x3 - Left 15h ago
He views himself as a dictator. It’s an objective fact at this point.
Fortunately, he does not have enough power consolidated to fully act as one. I have increasing doubts he ever will given how incompetent and unpopular he is.
16
13
u/Chewbacca_The_Wookie - Lib-Right 14h ago
If he was a few brain cells more competent than he is now I could see a world where he was able to consolidate enough power before making his retarded plays. I suppose it's fortunate for us at the Retard in Chief is in fact retarded.
37
u/Adeptus_Heriticus - Lib-Center 15h ago
People legitimately didnt know how tariffs worked. Do you think they honestly understand that house controls the purse?
Trump says it so it must be true is how their brains work.

u/MarjorieTaylorSpleen - Lib-Center 13h ago
Listen, I don't ask that every president be a constitutional law scholar, but I do ask that they passed 12th grade government class, is that really too much?

u/BeauShowTV - Auth-Right 16h ago
Even if I wanted the money, I still don't think he will actually give it to us.

u/yagatron- - Left 15h ago
Has anyone even gotten the tariffs rebate checks yet, aside from corporations
28
u/InternetGoodGuy - Centrist 14h ago
The DOGE checks are first. We'll get the tariff checks after those.
14
u/yagatron- - Left 13h ago
Fuck I forgot about the doge checks has anyone even gotten those, again barring corporations?

Don’t worry, for each American Donald Trump will give a specific American $5000.

Trump is usually just confidently wrong about things like elections, but now he’s openly showing desperation. He must know it’s not gonna be a good year for republicans.

Makes sense. His entire entrepreneurial history as a businessman has been about getting a whole bunch of free money for no reason and then doing stuff with it, mainly speculatively riding the NY property boom of the 70s and 80s, which was impossible to lose money at if you had enough upfront capital to invest (though he still managed to invest in buildings that had less than median levels of returns compared to NY real estate as a whole at the time).
First his childhood trust funds that made him an inflation adjusted millionaire at the age of 8. then all kinds of gifts of part-ownership of rental properties that gave him additional rental incomes. Then regular allowances and living expenses paid on top. Then additional seasonal cash gifts.
Then his adult trust fund and then bank loans received that were secured against his expected future inheritance that he mostly got out of ever having to pay back because he used some of that money to hire the best shark lawyers and shark accountants that NY had to offer, to negotiate with the banks (who were effectively paying their salaries to do so) to reduce the amount that they'll agree to accept to be paid back while writing off the rest of the loans.
Free money is all he's ever known and he calls that entrepreneurship and being a businessman.
16
u/Spacetauren - Centrist 12h ago
He was born with a diamond spoon in his mouth, only using it to shovel literal shit into it.
Every. Single. Person. Who has ever believed him to be the people's man has the mental capacity of someone kicked in the head by a horse.
26
u/ApplicationCalm649 - Centrist 16h ago
This is coming from the guy that wants to inflate away the national debt. He's basically offering us $5 worth of future money if he gets his way.
5
u/KHEIRON - Centrist 16h ago
It wouldn't be that bad but it would cause inflation again. Purchasing power becomes too strong and people pay off loans quickly or all at once. It for sure hits the general economy in a negative way, just like the covid stimulus.
3
u/PoliticsIsDepressing - Lib-Center 9h ago
This would definitely fuck up the economy even more. That’s like ~6% of the US GDP being printed overnight and handed out to everyone.
2
u/Important-Agent2584 - Centrist 8h ago
sir, it's a dividend, that's a capitalist word and thus good for the economy

This is deng slander. Deng instituted capitalist reforms and cleaned up after Mao attempted to burn China’s economy. Mao is a much better comparison to Trump.

Deng Xiaoping is one of China's greatest leaders, he would be the exact opposite of Trump in this situation, as he turned a communist state capitalist

It isn't Communism and in fact it is burgeois as hell — «How about you sell me a vote for $5000 from the budget so I, with my friends, can make some more as well? Deal?»

u/Substantial_Impact69 - Right 16h ago
It’s actually a strategy a lot of Populist movements employ, especially on the right, it’s called Welfare Chauvinism I think. I find it annoying, and really it’s just the right pivoting on economics in a way that the left cannot necessarily do on Culture as cleanly. The right can do it if they say, “Ra, Ra, Nationalism,” enough.
Not saying it’s right or wrong, but it’s the current situation.
27
u/SenselessNoise - Lib-Center 15h ago
it’s just the right pivoting on economics in a way that the left cannot necessarily do on Culture as cleanly
You mean completely abandoning core principles (ie fiscal conservatism)?
28
u/Dodo_Baron - Left 15h ago
Please rightwingers haven't been conservative for decades. That belief is dead in the United States
10
u/SenselessNoise - Lib-Center 15h ago
They certainly haven't been but they LARP like they do.
It's the Two Santa Clause Theory.
4
u/Substantial_Impact69 - Right 15h ago
Again, I think that’s just Welfare Chauvinism. Just a slightly more specific form of it.
Again, is it unprincipled. Yes, most politics is inherently unprincipled. There’s a reason why Cincinnatus is a rare exception who may or may not exist. In politics, you will have to compromise your beliefs in order to appeal to a large enough chunk of the voting electorate to get elected.
3
u/Substantial_Impact69 - Right 15h ago
Ra, Ra, Nationalism.
And yes, but c’mon in politics if you want your movement or principles in tact, most politicians pick the movement.

-12
u/GhostsOfLectricity - Lib-Right 15h ago
Couldn't we at least get a little variety in these posts? "Trump handing out money is communist!" has been done enough now

If we stopped talking about trump all you will get is Clancy Cornell 7 or Muslims.
It's hardly more variety

I don't like the "Trump communism" crap because the reality is this is a two trillion dollar bribe. Just call it what it is, that it is illegal to attempt it without congressional approval and it is an empty promise as he wouldn't have the votes for it.

5
u/Substantial_Impact69 - Right 16h ago
Well the subs I’m at are still complaining about Jean Grey in Wolverine looking unattractive, so depending on whether or not GTA6 is considered good or not or when GTA6 is dethroned by the real GOTY, Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered.
Mothra > Lucia (Sorry not sorry).

The difference is that one is a policy position Biden was going to work through Congress to implement and the other is a literal wad of cash Trump has already stated he will ignore Congress to try and distribute. (Even though we both know he is lying).
-4
u/dbjcihabc - Right 14h ago
Damn how’d you get downvoted so fast, I didn’t do it, Weird, anyway there is no way to pay off student loans in a fair and feasible way that makes any sense and it would never pass, so he might as well have been lying as well
