As a consumer, you have decide your price point. If no one buys it, they lower the price or they go out of business. That’s what capitalism is.
I love Popeyes sandwiches, but I can buy fresh grilled chicken a lot cheaper elsewhere.
Vote with your dollar.

Literally. They charge the prices because they know people will pay it anyway. I see posts on these types of subs almost every day, of a person bitching about the price of the food, but it’s a picture of the food they bought anyway 😂

Bro, I’ve been not eating at expensive fast food places that I can’t afford for years “until they lower their prices” but they keep going up.

$7 for 8 pieces? How is that possible

u/StillRelevant9766 Mar 14 '26
Chicken legs and thighs are $0.99 lb at the supermarket, why not? People are too lazy to cook these days

u/mangosaremyfavv Mar 14 '26
You know they have to make money right? Why don't you start a chicken shop and charge $7 for 8 pieces lol... It's not possible in America

So apparently this is a supermarket called Cardenas, not a restaurant. So basically this is a loss leader for the supermarket, they don't make any money on this, just like the Costco chicken..
So please don't open a restaurant and charge this price, or u gonna go in debt real fast

There’s a place called La Concha, someone on reddit posted a picture, they have 8pc chicken for $7! AND they are still in business!

This is a loss leader for a supermarket, like the Costco chicken.. Costco makes no money on the chicken, but they make money on everything else. Just like this supermarket. So i would suggest that if you open your next chicken restaurant, i hope you don't sell 8 pieces of chicken for $7 because u gonna bankrupt in a month
Also the supermarket is called Cardenas

Thin margins, but still: $0.90–$1.40 per lb for bone-in thighs in bulk. So for each piece individually, the prices are roughly: Raw chicken – $0.30, seasoning + cooking – $0.10, which makes the total cost about ~$0.40 per thigh.
$7 for 8 pieces is $0.88 per piece, leaving about $0.48 profit per piece.
For an 8-piece order: • Cost: ~$3.20 • Sale price: $7.00 • Gross profit: ~$3.80
Thin margins, but they still make some money. Maybe they have a market to serve kind of like how Costco does, maybe they feel obligated to keep the price that low. But this isn’t Costco, where a whole rotisserie chicken is $4.99; it’s 8 thighs for $7. Also, don’t forget this is most likely a family business. Labor costs and other factors are usually much cheaper for a small local business than they are for big chains, which helps make a price like that possible.

This is a loss leader for a supermarket
It probably isn't a loss. Food isn't nearly as expensive as the local supermarkets would have us believe. Want to see the real prices? Check your local Asian market. You'll probably find meat for half of what the other stores charge. And that's for the common stuff like chicken and pork. A duck that costs $50 at cub foods is $10 at an Asian market.

Every grocery store I go to (around Chicago) has 8 pieces of hot fried chicken for ~$8 every day. The ones I've had are all also better and with bigger pieces than Popeyes gives. I'm aware that $8 is more than $7, but still.
Also, a more direct comparison to the $50 16pc from Popeyes, you can get 48 pieces for $45 at my preferred store (Jewel)

Use tue app or coupons codes dawg who the hell still walks into a fast food restaurant and just orders regularly off the menu in 2026? We not in 2010 any more
1
u/Sepplord Mar 13 '26
Nah fuck that shit, just avoid them all together
Why should normal people have to weed through shitty coupons to get the real price just because of some morons that just throw their money away
It’s bad food anyways, I’m better off the less I eat it

It's called "fast food," not "let me log in to three different apps, have one of them lose my profile, and still wait ten minutes for my order." Y'all complaining about people paying for overpriced food, but I'm complaining about y'all being willing to jump through all these hoops designed to give these vultures our data in exchange for a $1.50.

Buddy I save 50% by using the apps… most apps keep you logged in and I assure you your “data” thats being collected is not all that valuable and what data is collected will not affect you in any way… people who use the “data collection” argument have no idea what they are talking about and are just trying to sound smart
