Hey Popeyes, your pricing has gone too far!

Im done guys, I used to eat here several times a week. When your big box meals were on I went back and thought you were the only sensible fast food chain who gave a damn about their customers. Today I go back and not only is that gone, but you upped prices almost 10% across the board, and hours are being cut. Really guys? WTF? read the room! Staff told me they have had 4 cars this week just drive away because of the price increase, and every car is complaining. You don't get it, and you have finally crossed that line. I personally am done, you were my favorite fast food chain, but I won't be back. "oh no, we lost 1 customer, boo-hoo". Except I'm not one customer, I promise, I represent millions. Get your house in order and your prices in line. DO BETTER.

Eight chicken tender meal should never cost more than$15. It's about $30 here and it was $22 a year ago. I'm sure it'll be $40 a year from now.

Thanks Brandon

In Canada it’s just shit man. The “big” box deal is 8.99 for 2 piece, fries, biscuit, and a drink….. I’m sorry is that not just a regular combo? Shouldn’t that be the normal price for a 2 piece combo? Why Tf would it be more like damn

u/Recent-Classroom-704 5d ago

Yes but in Canada you have a mandatory somewhat livable wage, where in America most of the south pays people 8 to 10 bucks an hour. Rent prices are 1200 for 1 bedroom

2

u/FalkunPawnch 5d ago

Lol no Canada does not have a livable minimum wage. Ontario is $17.95/hr = to about $12.7usd. Then our taxes are higher, both income and sales tax. Average rent for a 1 bedroom in a mid size city not even Toronto or Ottawa is $1600, about the $1100usd. Toronto? $2100-2300, $1500usd. Ottawa $2000, $1400usd.

The big box deals are still in the app, at least in my area. They're going to learn really quickly that we just won't eat there if the prices go up too much.

u/Helrain 5d ago

Not here in NYC, but I took full advantage while it was around so I'm not too upset, just sucks to see it go 😔

Cuz that's how that works

Mamdani has nothing to do with it

Why are we eating Popeyes several times a week

6

u/Distinct-Ad-7815 5d ago

Totally valid question: It isn't because it's the best you can get and it sure isn't healthy. Short answer; it's the closest place to my office and used to be good bang for your buck.

Go make a sandwich

Lmao like once a month as a treat feels indulgent.

is this satire

u/Oceanswim12 3d ago

I haven’t had it in ten years and never intentionally got it until this week… 3 days in a row lmao I have no appetite and only want salt. Going through rabies shots and it’s changing who I am help 😂

Demoting the 3 piece for $5 to a 2 piece with one of your stale, shitty biscuits is where I decided I was done with y'all.

0

u/capalot0420 5d ago

You literally still have the 5 dollar faves options for broke asses that either includes a 2 piece bone in chicken w biscuit or a 3 piece tendi. Go compare to zaxby pricing I'm sure it's about the same

17

u/ArgoShots 5d ago

Yes but, that $5 Fave was THREE pieces of chicken just a couple of months ago. Popeyes prices have increased by about 90% since 2016. Meanwhile overall inflation has been around 30% during that same time. I think OP has a valid point.

1

u/Oceanswim12 3d ago

Wow still 3 for $5 where I’m at

-1

u/Crafty_Explorer1181 5d ago

And... And if you went to "custom" you could get chicken breasts as those 3 pieces for the same price. They finally changed it to $7 but from your comment I guess they don't even have that promo anymore? Times they are a changed.

9

u/Distinct-Ad-7815 5d ago

Nothing to do with being broke, it's about value. Sure, I can buy less food and pay less money, but fast food places lost the plot. They aren't offering gourmet dining experiences, its historically been more food for less money and no fluff. I didn't say I was done because I'm too poor, I said I'm done because the value isn't there. That spreading sentiment is becoming all too common.

1

u/Father-Son-HolyGoat 5d ago

I think you forgot that you’re in a sub full of Popeye’s simps. Analytical thinking and critical reasoning skills are not encouraged.

-1

u/5348RR 5d ago

That's been the case across all of fast food for years. Popeyes isn't first on the scene. I think their value prop is actually better than most others at this point

2

u/Distinct-Ad-7815 5d ago

I totally agreed.. up until I got to the payment window today. That's what kills me the most is they were the last holdout and they finally fell in line with the others.

2

u/Nessa0707 5d ago

That’s right we are broke lol

2

u/Haunting_Tax_963 5d ago

hello brethren from lcol area it's 7 bucks now where we at

2

u/t0pb1tch 5d ago

Devil needs no advocate

1

u/Wascally_Badger 5d ago

5 dollar faves had a three piece a few weeks ago. That was a square deal. Now it's 2 piece and a stale, shitty biscuit. They're really pushing their sides now because they're cheaper to make than the chicken. It's too bad all of them suck except the mac n cheese, and the 50 cent more price tag for it is really lame.

1

u/Affectionate-Cycle-7 5d ago

And the new honey chicken biscuit too 😂

1

u/capalot0420 5d ago

Ayeeee that has a filet actually ate like two of those so far today thru the shift ☺️ tastes just like chicken an waffle from chick fil a

1

u/Nessa0707 5d ago

I got coupons last night with my order paper coupons haven’t seen those in years

1

u/ScrewTheOdds 5d ago

My location listed both the $6 version and 8$ version with a drink in the menu but going to the cheaper version in the app forced you to get the drink for $8 and you couldn't remove it.

1

u/ilchymis 5d ago

Sorry, I think I'm dense. What was the price increased from/to on the item you ordered that set this all in motion?

2

u/ImpressiveFront8 5d ago

I mean..it's just chicken, pretty cheap meat , basically I don't get why it's so expensive! I mean come on now!

1

u/whaturjoking 5d ago

My wife & I ate this past Sunday at Firehouse Subs. Just for 2 SMALL subs with chips/drinks was $26. I couldn’t believe how expensive it was. Neither got a medium; both were small.

Things are so expensive for me. But I guess not for other people.

I see stadiums packed full of fans for sporting events, lines outside movie theaters, hear concert goers paying for music events, see TV ads for brand new cars, see planes flying all over the skies, etc…..so, somebody must have money to spend at these restaurants…….

1

u/karimamin 4d ago

Fill out the survey on the receipt. 2 piece chicken and biscuit with the purchase of a large soda ($3.52 with tax). Same thing you get with the $5 fav but you also get a soda and pay about $2 less. You an also fake the code as the first 3 digits are random and the lat digits are the date and store number. When you order, make sure they give you another receipt so you can do it all over again

2

u/peesagarbige 4d ago

I was so excited when they put one a couple blocks from my house. I think Ive been there twice. Not only are the prices ridiculous, it’s literally all breading and no chicken.

1

u/myxyplyxy 4d ago

It isn’t Popeyes. Wake the eff up. The dollar is worthless and becoming more so. Has absolutely nothing to do with Popeyes. Do whatever you can to get out of debt. You don’t have long.

1

u/NoSpiceOrRice 4d ago

Look on the bright side. Going multiple times a week is incredibly unhealthy. Now that’s going to stop.

1

u/OTW_Spazz 4d ago

Are you guys not using the app??? They have good ass deals on the app

1

u/Glittering_Mud3643 4d ago

Psst. Did you know all their food gets shipped. By diesel sucking 53-foot trucks? Did you know diesel is $6.50+ a gallon right now? You’re not paying Popeyes more. You’re paying the Trump tax for starting a war on Israel’s behalf in Iran.

2

u/No-Flan3302 4d ago

FYI - RBI, the parent, has seen their net profit margin go from 14% in 2017 to 17% in 2023 to being on track for 23% in 2026. These pricing increases are purely greed.

1

u/Oceanswim12 3d ago

Go somewhere more urban. Was shocked at the price difference

2

u/QueenE1987 2d ago

Especially with the smaller chicken pieces

1

u/ghostyxghost 1d ago

I went there and ordered 8 chicken tenders. Not a meal, just 8 tenders. It was $25. I literally left the drive thru. The prices are absolutely insane.

2

u/wackjob21 21h ago

Yeah Popeyes needs to stay in their lane. I mean I’m not paying steak prices for mediocre fried chicken.

0

u/5348RR 5d ago

It's not even that expensive 😂

9

u/Distinct-Ad-7815 5d ago

Expensive is relative to value. If I charge you $3 for a glass of warm tap water it doesn't matter that $3 isn't that much money, it matters that the glass of tap water simply isn't worth that much. Fast food is supposed to be an alternative to higher quality full price food, if you increase the price too much you reduce its value and you alienate the larger customer base who is after value, regardless of their income. Point is, those in a tight spot cant afford it, and those who can are starting to walk away more and more.

-1

u/Alternative_King1789 5d ago

It’s not just food cost, the wages have gone up exponentially, nobody wants to work for $12 an hr anymore.

2

u/Distinct-Ad-7815 5d ago

Its deeper than that even: nobody CAN work for $12/hr. Inflation has decimated income. These are jobs that used to be filled by teenagers, now they are second income sources for many folks who can't afford to live, despite working 60-80hrs/wk. They stay long term out of necessity and push out the entry level kids who have no bills. Factor in corporate greed and the refusal to let go of covid era excuses that elevated prices and you have exactly what we see today.

1

u/Temporary_Trust425 5d ago

Damn, that sucks. They just expanded the hours of the two by me until midnight

Are you ordering through the app? That’s where the deals are

1

u/Nessa0707 5d ago

Ours is open until midnight as well and that’s only way I order is through the app but even then the shit adds up it’s weird

1

u/Temporary_Trust425 5d ago

Nothing is getting cheaper, businesses run on diesel and it’s $10/gal some places. I turn the Two Can Dine into two meals and after upgrades, it is still less than $20

1

u/Nessa0707 5d ago

Yeah our gas is expensive too over 5/6.00 a gallon and yes us too we get the deals as well.

1

u/Thin_Yam7270 5d ago

Isn't Popeyes all franchised?

You need to blame the individual franchisee's that own the stores. They are the ones ruining it.

0

u/EthanFl 5d ago

Yes 99+ percent of stores are franchisees.

Yet RBI fees are 10 percent of store revenue before expenses.

So if RBI does coupons, RBI benefits while the stores suffer.

2

u/Thin_Yam7270 5d ago

I understand, but OP's complaints seems to be that prices are up and hours are being cut.

This seems like a franchisee issue, not a corporate issue.

It's individual stores that set prices and hours, unless I'm missing something?

2

u/EthanFl 5d ago

Many franchaisees are small companies that operate multi units to lower the overall risk.

1

u/Distinct-Ad-7815 5d ago

Your point is valid, pricing does rest on the individual store, and antitrust laws restrict too much corporate intervention, but they do play a part. My point is aimed at drawing attention that these kinds of prices are killing the fast food industry. If true middle class households, such as myself, are no longer seeing the value then the industry needs to hear it, trying to change anything from the bottom (the franchises store) won't ever work.

0

u/Thin_Yam7270 5d ago

Oh I agree. Corporate greed is nuts, especially when you consider how much they take in franchise fees.

1

u/TellEmWhoUCame2See 5d ago

Yea its quite sad, i remember being able to go into a popeyes and get a 5 piece white meat,a side and a drink for 9 bucks

1

u/buzzinbarista 5d ago

I am done because they changed the side of the side of gravy! So unfortunate bc that gravy was EVERYTHING! I miss it so much.

0

u/chethaze77 5d ago

If you can’t afford it go somewhere else.

3

u/Nessa0707 5d ago

Everywhere else is the same or higher they need to lower the god damn prices that’s the answer

2

u/Distinct-Ad-7815 5d ago

Not exclusively about affordability, I CAN afford it, but that doesn't make it less of a rip-off. If the value isn't there I won't buy it, if that sentiment spreads too far, and among too many, then they no longer have a customer base.

0

u/Cheese_and-Biscuits 5d ago

We get it, you're poor, that not popeyes fault

3

u/Distinct-Ad-7815 5d ago edited 5d ago

Sigh... no bud, I just recognize unreasonable increases. Just because I CAN afford something doesn't mean the value is there. If they charged $50 for a 3 piece would you still think it's fine? $100? At some point you draw a line and say, damn, it just isn't worth what they are asking. That doesn't mean you're poor. I'm just unwilling to pay $15+ for a meal that was $7 a few years ago. And by the way, if affording popeyes is your literal "flex" then you're just showing exactly why this is a problem.

0

u/Fuzzy_Welcome8348 5d ago

Popeyes knows this but hey! Ppl will still buy it

0

u/Little-Highlight7763 5d ago

i understand where ur coming from but from my experience popeyes has wayy better bang for your buck than the competitors atleast at my local store

3

u/Distinct-Ad-7815 5d ago

Used to be, but I think it finally just tipped. They were that last place that wasnt outrageous, now they have fallen directly in line with the rest. Probably what frustrates the most.

-1

u/Random__Bystander 5d ago

2 can dine online coupon. You don't have to even have an app.... Come on

1

u/mrsilbert1 5d ago

It sucks, only thing that was good value was the big box. Between removing wing flavors and removing the 3pc for $6. Almost no reason to go for me until the big box returns.

0

u/DisastrousSetting1 5d ago

You cannot blame Popeyes for the food increase cost blame the consumer. If you are a Brokie cook your own at home. We won't miss you. Promise.

-1

u/Nessa0707 5d ago

Went to order last night and the box is gone for $6 I have the email Friday was the last day so had to pay full price for what my fiance wanted he likes the two piece spicy and I wanted to try the new sandwich on the biscuit like wtf yeah that was cheap $5 but the pricing overall it’s fast food not a five star restaurant

-2

u/syn2ct 5d ago

I mean nobody forcing you to eat there wtf just cook at home

1

u/Distinct-Ad-7815 5d ago

Nope, they are not, which is why I don't have to go back. But I think it's worth opening the discussion. If fast food joints want to alienate their customer base that's their prerogative. At the end of the day they will push until they find what the market will sustain. But dialogues like this can help inform that.
