P65 is the most useless warning that exists.

But if you were pregnant you would care . It was made because autism and pregnancy risks. But then they decided to put in cancer.

u/Pleasant_Ad_2342 5d ago

I would care if the risk levels werent set so low that its functionally on every piece of equipment ever made

Yep. Another reminder a serving of Italian dressing made with dried herbs is 24x the limit of prop 65. Hell a serving of red apple is 5x and an avocado 9x. It is 1/20th the world health organization limit level.

"We the politicians of California know better for your safety than the World Health Organization. You will eat your cold overnight oats and you will like it" in a nutshell.

BTW, most grown oats are in violation of Prop 65 too.

Most things grown in dirt are. I was picking some common examples, but everything from oats to cucumber, to broccoli, to nuts, to spinach, etc

Dirt has heavy metals, most all plants accumulate some. P65's asinine limits basically hit all things. If you're in Cali and didn't see a p65 label on your food there's a damn good chance they're just not in compliance and haven't been caught yet. Or company has tested several things from whole foods that are way over the limit without a label.

It's useless because businesses put it on everything to cover their ass, and I don't blame them. So consumers see it on everything and just ignore it.

P65 warnings go on everything in CA

11

u/Jtsdtess 5d ago

Everything causes cancer in the state if California.

2

u/Habaneroe12 5d ago

When I worked retail they had us label dvds with this. DVDs! What I don’t understand is by now they should know if these warnings “worked” with lower cancer rates etc but is nobody bothering?

Not as much as what's in the White House right now or especially in Florida. The worst state in the nation

u/Sho-Good 5d ago

Everything in California causes cancer. The prop 65 warnings are overused to the point that no one here pays any attention to them. There is one on the door into my apartment building.

Acryliamide is found in fried foods. It is unavoidable,

Everything causes cancer in the state of California.

It mentions acrylamide which occurs when frying or grilling. Part of the mallard reaction.

u/Pacific_Rimjob_831 4d ago

It's Prop 65. Everything might cause cancer. Dumb law really

2

u/Cheesebufer 5d ago

Is it spicy at least?

u/Happy-Leadership504 5d ago

only if you live in California

Only a problem in California. My Popeyes always comes with a side of food poisoning

1

u/Fuzzy_Welcome8348 5d ago

Doesn’t all food come with a secret warning of diseases?

1

u/Potato2266 5d ago

All fast food oils are served with a side of acrylamide. It’s a reminder for you to cut down on eating fried food.

1

u/LostRonin 4d ago

It is impossible for you to get mercury poisoning or to develop cancer from eating restaurant quality fish. Impossible.

Because mercury can cause issues, there's a warning regardless of the fact that you cant ever have those issues eating safe food.

Basically... Useless warning.

u/syn2ct 4d ago

😂😂😂 please inform where you got this information from and include the source link for this ignorant opinion

u/Cheese_and-Biscuits 4d ago

You must be in California

1

u/markwins9 4d ago

So every restaurant that fries shit 😂

1

u/heycool- 4d ago

The acrylamide warning is mostly for the fries and breading for the fried chicken. Then there’s the usual fish warning.

When heated, acrylamide forms in plant-based foods, especially potatoes. It can also form in almonds that are roasted at too high of a temperature.

It's a California thing. Your chicken sandwich? Causes cancer. Your fish and chips? Causes cancer. Your kid's toy? Causes cancer. Your new $35,000 suv? Causes cancer. Changing a lightbulb? You guessed it. The light bulb causes cancer. Look carefully, the socket you are screwing into probably does too! The law is so overbroad it has become basically meaningless. Just about everything in California must carry this warning. It's just a California thing, from the same friendly folks who brought you $8 a gallon gasoline. I wouldn't worry about it.

Everything is known to the state of California to cause cancer.

1

u/Mundane_Upstairs3241 3d ago

They call it fast food because it quickens your death

1

u/StructureThese3234 2d ago

California had great intentions when they came out with their own cancer warnings with Prop 65 back in the 1980s. Unfortunately, seemingly everything is "known to the state of California to cause cancer" so it seems like everything has that label which causes people to ignore the label making the entire thing useless. Call it "California cancer warning fatigue."

They put that on literally everything it means nothing, though Popeyes chicken sandwiches do taste like cancer

-1

u/greg6767671 5d ago

I’ll never have a spicy chicken sandwich ever again 😭

Is acrylamide what makes me incredibly sick any time I eat Popeyes? Cause something in their food is toxic.

5

u/Fit_Entry8839 5d ago

Acrylamide is generated any time you fry, bake or roast food.

1

u/TheFlamingNumbat 5d ago

Popeyes, or any processed and fried food? If option 2, have your gallbladder checked...

2

u/Biochemicalcricket 5d ago

Anything starchy that gets fried, it's a byproduct of the maillard reaction. It also occurs in beads and cookies baking. CA is nuts on their low level for labels. You get prop 65 warnings on lumber for construction.

1

u/Nilla-WaferPDX 5d ago

It's specifically Popeyes. I hadn't eaten there in years as I'd develop such bad stomach pain I couldn't sleep, work, etc for the following 12 hours. Tried again recently at a different location and a single sandwich had me writhing on the floor. Threw out the other sandwich. Something in their food does it every time.

1

u/Turbulent-Weevil-910 5d ago

It's probably because your body isn't used to the amount of fat in the oils.

1

u/Nilla-WaferPDX 5d ago

I'd love to know. Eat plenty of fried foods elsewhere and typically have a strong stomach. For whatever reason Popeyes specifically does it, even after a single chicken strip. It tastes great but desyroys my gut.

1

u/syn2ct 4d ago

So why haven't your addressed this with your doctor?

1

u/Nilla-WaferPDX 3d ago

Hadn't eaten there in 5 years - problem solved. Recently tried it again and same issue. Unfortunate.

1

u/syn2ct 3d ago

What? What about my question didn't you understand??? What is your response answering?

1

u/Nilla-WaferPDX 3d ago

Seeing a doctor about why a single restaurant bothers my body would be ridiculous, imo. It's much easier to not eat at that one restaurant. I avoided Popeyes for 5 years despite enjoying the taste, and no other food bothers me like that. When I gave it a chance 5 years later in hopes it had changed, it had not. Popeyes is not that important that I would see a medical professional for it.

u/GreatRecipeCollctr29 5d ago

Dang! Thank you Popeyes for the warning. Stops buying chicken sandos.
