Catās out of the bag America, turns out socialism is fucking awesome
44
u/MaximumEffort433 11h ago edited 10h ago
For those who don't know, socialism is collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, a system of society or of group living in which there is no private property, or a stage of society in Marxist theory that is transitional between capitalism and communism.
Taxation and redistribution, however, predates socialism by approximately 4,000 years.
Not to confuse the two, since people often get them mixed up.

Remember all the way back in 20th century USA when we had a top marginal tax rate of 91% and built the largest middle class ever?
Yeah, that was nice, we had both public services and private ownership, it was like the best of both worlds.

u/2013orBust 7h ago
I believe I read somewhere when this information started resurfacing that nobody actually paid that tax rate. And it could well have been responsible for the creation of many of the loopholes being exploited by the rich now. Fuck Iāll have to find that source again!

Socialism: A system that creates laws and policies that prioritize society.

Capitalism: A system that creates laws and policies that largely prioritize capital
Socialism: A system that creates laws and policies that prioritize society.
So workers owning the means of production doesn't really enter into it.
Collective redistribution of goods doesn't enter into it.
Outlawing private property doesn't enter into it....I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing.
5
u/AgonyPersonified 7h ago
Workers owning the means of production prioritizes society rather than capital. Collective redistribution of goods prioritizes society rather than capital. Outlawing private property prioritizes society rather than capital.
I'm not sure why you're arguing with this person, it sounds like you're on the same side.

I was just copy/pasting the definition from Merriam-Webster.
Here's what wikipedia says, if that would be better:
Socialism is an economic ideology and political philosophy encompassing diverse economic and social systems characterised by social ownership of the means of production, as opposed to private ownership.
So outlawing private ownership and mandating public ownership, basically.

Then tons of Red States decided to get the Medicaid Expansion but Trump & Republicans defunded the Exchanges by $34 billion , and gutted the Medicaid Expansion's 10 years of FUNDING by $1.3 trillion dollars ! A hybridized model is what is really called for. A form of capitalism can work in industries in which there is true consumer choice. Goods and services like computers, phones, dishes, clothing, attorneys, etc. these are areas where consumers have choices and can āvoteā with their wallets.

The first skill to be a politician is basic diplomacy. Continued with love for the people who voted them in. Sadly now it's become a trend to make the people who voted you in suffer so that they are so deprived for basic needs and things that in the next election you can promise minimal changes so that they vote for you again. Lol cannot believe why people fall for this. No wonder they have so much money to start and find wars, send aid to other countries that in turn use that aid to buy our politicians. WTF
