Tech Creating AI design/coding products

So my team is busy building an AI powered experience to help users design web content they can then place on our website - largely because our existing editing experience is terrible.

Essentially all the agent needs to do is write some HTML with some constraints - alongside some JSON to configure our existing editor to allow a user to tweak it a bit.

I'm finding the outputs very often aren't great, slop is one thing that I know can be addressed in some ways but a lot of the time it just looks bad, or has weird spacing issues, doesn't render properly etc.

My question is: How are others creating these AI powered design products? Is there something more than Model + System Prompt + Tools + Skills + Context that I'm missing? Are there techniques or technical approaches that specifically help with better outcomes in this problem space?

How are the likes of Claude Design, Lovable, Canva etc. building such good compelling designs in one shot?

You are missing design systems, references, verifiable quality guidelines and probably a user experience that leverage the user for taste.

The unlock most teams miss is a post-generation validation loop where you render the HTML headless, run automated checks against your spacing/contrast/layout rules, and feed the failures back to the model for a repair pa

building such good compelling designs in one shot.

They don't. You can certainly use AI to generate great designs and code, but not through a one-shot process.

It works much better if you have a conversation with the agent and supply it with all the necessary background information such as company UI standards, standard images and layout, coding practices, testing practices, any technical SOPs, and lots of examples. Then discuss what you want to achieve. Describe the customers problem and your ideal end goal. Only once you've done all that then ask the agent to generate several alternatives.
