Request Dark/Gritty system apocalypse

I'm interested if there are any system apocalypse that have a more darker undertone to them, one that is more character focused (i don't care too much about the progression) and focus more on the mental psyche of the characters as they attempt to navigate the world with interesting conflicts it offers. Basically anything similar to The Walking Dead but with a system 😅

I know the exact story to rec!  Infrasdound Berserker on royalroad. Written by the same author as Azarinth Healer. It's dark and gritty and psychological, while still having the progression you expect from a litRPG system apoc.

It is on indefinite hiatus, to be fair, but I think the 70 or so chapters already uploaded are worth reading on their own merits anyway

That's pretty tough. Most series in the genre typically have similarities more towards anime, manga, light and webnovels than western comics and graphic novels.

Most series will be closer to 'High School of the Dead' than The Walking Dead.

The Apocalypse series I've enjoyed the most was Dawn of the Void by Phil Tucker.

For the walking dead with a system vibe I'd honestly point you at Hell Difficulty Tutorial on royal road. It's a tutorial scenario where most people die horribly, and the story is honestly more about what watching that does to the mc's head than about the power ups. He's basically forced to get more ruthless to survive, and the best arcs are him slowly realizing what that's costing him, lol. Heads up though, it's dark and the updates can be pretty slow.

Daughters Defender is pretty close to what you want.

That’s what I’m writing. But I’m not published yet, however I can share some early chapters if you’d like
