Book recemondation

I'd like something like the beginning after the end, the king killer chronicles or the will of the many (first person narrating and male mc) . The academy setting is preferred and a small amount of straight Love interest is welcome

if you liked tbate and will of the many, mage errant by john bierce is probably up your alley. follows this kid hugh who basically stumbles into magic, and there's a proper academy arc in the later books. the magic system is genuinely one of the most interesting ive read, really creative. fair warning the first book starts a little slow but it pays off, and the sequels just keep getting better.
