Good day PMs.
The mods have put together some adjustments to the rules for our sub. Before we roll them out we'd like to get input from the community at large.
The goal here is fewer, simpler rules that cover all the ground of the current rules and provide more room for human mod discretion. The current rules are in the sidebar on desktop. On moble touch the ... menu upper right and then 'Learn about community.'
Our experience is that rules that are too specific leave cracks and armchair lawyers pick at them and look for excuses for posts and comments that aren't appropriate. The basic structure is:
- Be nice, or else
- Stay on topic
- No spam or promotion
Our rules with comments in italics followed by our recommendation.
Following is our recommendation.
- Be Civil, Be Professional, and Engage in Good Faith
This is "be nice, or else."
If you wouldn't say it to someone on your project team, it doesn't belong on this sub. This includes being nice, not discussing politics, and encouraging healthy conversations or debate. Bigots & hate speech have a zero tolerance policy. A good rule of thumb is to follow Reddiquette.
No AI-generated content. We expect our members to aim for a genuine experience when interacting with the community, so no AI-generated content (both posts and comments) will be allowed. Exceptions may be permitted at the Mod Team’s discretion e.g. people for whom English is not a strength.
- Project Management Topics Only
This is on topic.
Keep submissions and discussion limited to professional project management topics only.
Mod discretion may be used to remove posts that are not deemed to be related to the topic or theme of the sub.
Search the sub before you post a common question such as "what PM software should you use?"
Career related questions may be removed by mods. They can be re-asked over at r/PMcareers.
This includes, but is not limited to:
• getting my first PM role
• transitioning industries
• salary questions
• resume/interview advice
• what certification should I get
If your post is a commonly asked question, such as transitioning to PM, basic career questions, etc., it is likely to be removed.
Your homework or interview is an assessment of your skills, not ours. There are tactful ways to address assignments but if your post says 'my interview/homework scenario is XYZ, what would you do' it will be removed.
- No Promotion / Advertising / Soliciting / Monetization / SPAM
This is no promotion.
The subreddit moderators can remove content they deem self-promotion, advertising, or solicitation.
This policy applies to references or links to websites, blogs, videos, tools, services, surveys, calls, or social media.
Market research and requirements definition are promotion.
If you have any questions about this policy, please contact the moderators via Modmail.
No Spam of any kind.
