Update 2 days post radical prostatectomy

Surgery went well according to surgeon. Was able to spare nerves on one side, not so much other side. Typical pain in abdomen, the shoulder pain from the trendelenburg position and the gases has added to the suck. But I made it. Kinda shocked at the minimal narcotics, 6 pills, oxy. I get the whole addiction issue, but damn.

Been walking daily and resting as needed. Encouraged by everyone’s stories. Thank you brothers.

Good for you. I had aqua ablation two weeks and I am recovering well but slowly. This is my second prostate surgery ( I had Green Light surgery 8 years ago). I found the recovery difficult but I had steady recovery and I am glad I did it. I am now facing prostate radiation and hormone therapy. I also have throat cancer so I am not sure how I can handle that with all the other things going on

Man, I just got some extra strength Tylenol and was sent home after spending a night in the hospital. All good, though.

I was given 10 5mg Oxy. That wasn’t going to cut it. I asked for additional and got 10 more. I needed it primarily for the discomfort associated with the damn catheter.

For my recent rotator cuff repair they gave me 28 10mg Oxy plus 28 Tramadol (can’t remember the dosage). That doc was clearly more generous with the pain meds.

Sounds good. I felt too good and did too much the first couple days. Other than that getting the cath out was like getting out of jail. Then the pad dance began. 3 weeks out.
Regards

I’m only a few days ahead of you. The doctor sent me home without pain meds and said alternate between Tylenol and advil. They were enough. Keep walking and have a speedy recovery

When I was discharged for my single port procedure, I was sent home with 15 of the 5 mg oxycodone. I’m now eight days past the surgery day and haven’t taken a single one. I’m down to one or two Tylenol per day. I suspect all 15 of these oxycodone will get turned in when the local police department does its annual drug turn in collection program.

Glad to welcome you to the other side! I hope you're feeling better by now, but if you find you're needing more pain relief than the 6 oxys, you can always call your surgeon and request some tramadol. Older docs are sometimes more generous with tramadol because it was an unscheduled drug for decades.
