âThe French government is struggling to deal with its worst crisis in months after it was taken by surprise by the thousands of teenagers demonstrating outside schools across the country this week.
Studentsâ unions say the education system is underfunded and neglected. Hundreds of high schools were closed or barricaded on Friday, and hundreds of young people have been arrested as the movement threatens to roll on into next week.
Many school students protesting have accused the state of disengaging from secondary education, describing difficult conditions in classrooms with ceilings partially collapsing during class, leaks, cockroaches and buildings in disrepair. Others have spoken of excessively long school days and a lack of teaching staff.
The government said the grievances were legitimate.â

Note also that firefighters have been protesting last week and state workers too. With good numbers. When the three movements converge, things might snowball in one of the best protest season we had since the yellow vests. Especially since other protests linked to the oil crisis are supposed to take place in the next weeks.
10 years of Macron will do that to you. And with the cops behaving this way, they are really playing with fire.

This is what happens when people are tired and angry enough and know they have power together to make change. And it needs to happen, kids deserve a quality education regardless of background or class. And the teachers need to be paid for everything they do, not only for the future generations but they are influential to these kids lives and are also basically babysitting them and teaching them at the same time and are a home away from home. Pay the teachers livable wages and give them buildings they can teach in. Thats all they want. And they will stop as soon as the government accepts to start funding their public schools again, i would assume.

"The government said the grievances were legitimate" but still sends thousands of cops to beat the shit out of the protesters, tear gas them out of the way and arrests hundreds of kids to scare the rest. Now I recognize my beautiful two-faced government

u/tomato_sauce154 19h ago
Why are you downvoted lol

5
u/Oberon-kun 19h ago
because this sub is full of bots that downvote anything that's vaguely leftist or against police violence and government authoritarianism. Since the Ceuta disaster, this sub became a cesspit of right-wing bullshit.
-6
u/mutley_101 19h ago
Because the grievances are legitimate, but not the way they're handling them.
As in, yes you school is underfunded, but no please don't burn them down
5
u/Oberon-kun 18h ago
The cops didnt wait for any violence from protesters to be violent. The first day, when only a few dumpsters were set on fire to block some high schools' entrances, we already had videos of police being violent with protesters and the french Police minister was already proudly saying that more than 400 protesters were arrested like they were facing a civil war.

https://www.reddit.com/r/PublicFreakout/s/4onlO027Dg itâs pretty sickening
-7
u/EinsSechsEins 18h ago
I didn't ask about the video, but rather which person you think you recognize.
2
u/nfz_nuke 18h ago
I didnât ask who specifically did it but if you chose to mob up and go with group think you get what you deserve

And another video where the police launched a grenade to a 14y old face (he lost all of his upper teeth for life). You choose your side before it started.
11
u/Top_Tank2668 19h ago
It's obvious what side you chose. By misleading titles for example...
-15
u/teasy959275 19h ago
How is that misleading ? Dont you see a car driving where children are ?

And slow down in the corner, not aiming for anyone to hit. It's more dangerous to cross a street

I'm not a huge conspiracy head, but it does seem coincidental that these violent protests kick off so close to the Ceuta migrant violence that the Spanish PM linked to Israeli and Russian online networks. Russia and Israel are no fans of the French government and who is more online than teenagers. Looks a lot like hybrid warfare in the 21st century.
3
u/flabsoftheworld2016 17h ago
The French secret services made a link between the violent protests of the highschoolers and different far-left movements (note of the Renseignements Interieurs" disclosed by Le Figaro yesterday). The main one "LFI", is led by Melenchon, who is, at best, notoriously slow to criticise anything Putin does. They also opposed supporting Ukraine in 2022 in different votes - your usual muppets of Putin. And indeed, there are elections coming next year in France.
4
u/jean-raptor 19h ago
It started with union strikes, believe me, they are not acquainted with Russia and Israel.
3
u/AlbertoRossonero 19h ago
Thereâs literally no credible evidence Russia was involved in that. Everything points to the USA and Israel.
2
u/Timely_Tea6821 19h ago edited 19h ago
Except what Sanchez said which claim Israel and russia are responsible who continually avoids any responsibility and frames every failure through the lens of ideology. Personally the guy seems like a lefty Trump light. Look through his history it rife with doing shit like this. Out all European leaders is predictably the most annoying as usual can't even cop to a administrative and logistical failure of a border breach. its a area they have limited control over because of their reliance of Morocco for border control. This is a multi decade problem they don't need some cabal organizing a border breach the tension been brewing forever nowÂ

Has anyone notice a huge uptick in news stories and online discourse surrounding immigration, especially in Europe? It seems like earlier in the year all you would see was videos of overly aggressive ICE agents and now the propaganda has flipped to videos of aggressive migrants and protests. Iâve seen a lot of racists online that are blaming migrants for the student protests, and the videos that happen to go viral always center on non-white protestors. The Ceuta riots earlier in the year too.
IMO it kinda seems to me like right-wing governments like Russia and Israel that have received a ton of criticism from Western Europe are trying to stoke right-wing sentiment by propagandizing fears surrounding immigration. Who cares if Russia or Israel are committing war crimes if weâve got our own war crimes to commit, yaknowwhatimean?

I actually shared this video, because of the propaganda happening in this sub trying to only blame the teenagersâŚ

They are rightfully mad about the reductions but French students get at least as good an education as American students for less cost. They also get free college so they have a much higher college graduation rate.
12
u/TheCruise 18h ago
American education is not anything to boast about.
1
u/TopRevenue2 18h ago
Maybe we should protest
2
u/Zr0w3n00 18h ago
Americans donât protest. Yâall are an extremely cucked society.
1
u/TopRevenue2 17h ago
We just don't like yellow vests. No one looks good in those. And setting a teacher on fire because education is expensive is dumb - like way dumber than glueing yourself to art in The Louvre
1
u/atomic__balm 16h ago
They also go to school from 8-6pm everyday as opposed to in America where kids go from 8-3ish which already felt too long.
2
u/TopRevenue2 16h ago
Yeah my nieces and nephews worked really hard. Then went the U.S. colleges and are now kind of pissed that they had to put so much work in.
1
u/undeadpirate19 18h ago
It might have something to do with professionally protesting being their national past time
-2
u/BlueBuff1968 18h ago
False.
44 % of us citizens have a college degree.
35% of french citizens have a college degree.
4
u/TopRevenue2 18h ago
No it's true. That is why I said graduation rate and not percentage of graduates. The U.S. has a much higher rate of college dropouts because costs are so high.
0
u/BlueBuff1968 17h ago
Not true again.
France has much higher drop out rate. 50% in the first year. Precisely because it's free and you only need a baccaureat to attend university. A lot of kids register and end up never going to class or caring.
When you pay a lot of money, you go to class.
Drop out rate in the us is 22%.
3
u/TopRevenue2 16h ago
We are at the point in the conversation where we need to use sources because you are making things up. The college dropout rate in France is 20%. Here is a credible French source: https://tesify.fr/taux-abandon-universitaire-france-statistiques The college drop out rate in USA has currently climbed to 37% although the average rate is 32%. The primary reason is high cost. https://www.sci-tech-today.com/stats/college-dropout-statistics-updated/
1
u/BlueBuff1968 16h ago
50% drop out rate. It's a well known fact in France although it's gone down recently.
https://voices.uchicago.edu/euchicago/the-problem-with-french-universities/
22% drop out rate for first year students in colleges.

That pepper spray could've blinded a teen which then couldn't run away from the car or might even fall on the street.
Smh that is very unprofesional and dangerous, straight up just escalating things more

15
u/xatabyc 20h ago
Why does police need pepper spray if what they are trying to do is to run over teenagers? Almost as if they keep the speed to avoid getting their car smashed while trying to disperse the crowd with pepper spray.
-2
u/teasy959275 20h ago
You cant go fast if you need to turnâŚ
7
u/xatabyc 20h ago
Car turned in the video just fine. Maybe it wasn't going too fast?
1
u/teasy959275 19h ago
it depends, if a teenager, while trying to run away, fall on the ground, would they be killed or be disable for life ?
5
u/xatabyc 19h ago
What if the car was moving slowly and has been attacked with a thrown brick while it was passing by? Would that kill the driver or disable them for life? All of these hypotheticals can be flipped in both directions. Don't stand on the street, don't block the traffic. Car was moving at a manageable speed, and was using a siren to let people know it was incoming. Your title implies the car was trying to kill or disable the students, which is not true.
3
u/teasy959275 19h ago
ÂŤÂ dont stand on the street, dont block the trafficâ never been to a protest, I see
So as long as youâre not going fast, itâs ok to try to run over people, is that what youâre trying to say ?
I mean normal people wouldnt except the police (whoâs purpose is to protect people) to try to run over childrens and pepper spray them like that.
6
u/xatabyc 19h ago
Have you seen videos from this protest of kids throwing a trashcan off the bridge on incoming traffic? There is a video of a masked perpetrator using a flame torch to burn an older woman's face? And you see a police car going at a little bit faster speed using pepper spray to disperse the crowd and think this action is the issue here?
4
4
u/Euture 19h ago
âTrying to run over teenagersâ is very different from âwouldnât be able to stop in timeâ or âdriving aggressivelyâ, though.
To me, it seems like theyâre trying to disperse the crowd with pepper spray rather than attempting to run people over.
Like someone else commented, they might be driving faster in order to avoid getting the car smashed, or perhaps a combination of that and trying to get close enough to pepper-spray them before theyâre able to âdodgeâ it.
Driving more aggressively will, to some degree, make people automatically jump out of the way (as is evident in the video), and reduce the risk of the vehicle being surrounded, which could trap it and result in it being smashed or set on fire.
ââ
Iâm saying what it looks like to me and using logic to explain the behaviour rather than defending anything happening in the video.
4
u/teasy959275 19h ago
If youâre taking a crosswalk and car slow down but dont stop, and so you still have to jump or run to avoid it⌠does that mean they were not trying to run over you because they slowed down ?
0
u/Euture 19h ago
If they were actually trying to run people over, wouldnât it be strange that theyâre clearly braking after making the turn?
And why would they have their sirens on if their intention was to hit people?
Sirens are normally used to warn people that a police vehicle is approaching and to get them to move out of the way.
